THE NEXT DAY
IN COLLEGE
I walked into the hallway, my phone in my ears as my eyes scanned the hall, searching for Nina.
We were supposed to sit side by side for today's class, but I couldn't find her, and she wasn't picking up her phone.
“Hey, Lillian, can I see you for a minute?” Henry said behind me, adjusting his big nerd glasses, which sat on the bridge of his nose.
“What is it?” I said, my eyes still scanning the hallway with the numerous student who went about doing their thing.
“So I was wondering if you would be free on Saturday so we can_”
“not interested, Henry,” I said instantly, not sparing him a glance. I knew where he was going, and I knew what he wanted to say, but I didn't want to give him a chance in my life.
