I've watched Miranda scurry around corners and turn around when she sees me walking or sitting
in a certain room.
Normally, it would bring me pleasure to know I've scared respect into someone, but the thought
of her being my second chance mate looms over my head.
What if the moon goddess blessed me and I screwed it up?
I have a hard time believing she would screw me over just to replace Stormie with a lesser
woman, but there have been stranger occurrences.
With a sigh, I mindlink R to step away from training and meet me in my office.
I think into my leather chair and wait with my eyes locked on the door. It's early in the day so I
assume R was doing cardio. Running maybe? That combined with our warewolf speed should
have him here fairly soo-
"Hey Ragnar," my gamma slightly pants. As most of us are, he's shirtless, but sweat glistens off
his body which I suppose is normal for him. Training is literally his job.
"R, I need... Advice?"
The entire sentence is cringy to me, but luckily my friend doesn't laugh. His face actually turns
more serious and he sits in the seat across from me with his elbows resting on his legs.
"What's bothering you?"
I look to the door as if someone's listening, but obviously no one is.
"It's just... Do you think Stormie would want me to move on and maybe start dating again?"
My gammas eyes widen in surprise and he frowns a bit.
"She definitely wouldn't want you to just date Willy nilly, but I know that if you found your
second chance mate, she'd want you to go for it."
I nod in agreement. I know that sometimes the women I slept with even before I met her made
her feel...well... Upset? Inferior? Inexperienced? She just didn't like it. I remember how hurt she
was that I didn't wait for her. If I could go back and undo my f**k list, she'd be the only one on
it.
"So if I find my second chance mate, I should just go for it? Jump right in?"
R seems even more confused now. His dark brows furrow and his hands tighten into fists.
"Did you... Find a second chance mate? You only went out to the alpha meeting and on that run
two days ago."
I shake my head softly and bite my cheek.
"I don't know. This girl claims to be my second chance mate, but I don't feel anything. She
doesn't even mildly interest me. Her assumption was that I'm too hung up on Stormie to give the
already weak second chance mate bond a chance, but I just don't know."
R sits up straight with a sigh and rubs his hand down his chin.
"Stormie... I don't know. I thought she would've prepared for something like this. Left you
answers, ya know?"
I nod.
"That's what Jonah said. I would've thought so too, but I checked all over yesterday and found
nothing."
R widens his eyes. "You only started checking yesterday?!"
I frown and narrow my eyes.
"She was my mate. My FIANCE. Don't you understand that going through her things was
painful?"
My friend softens his face and nods sadly with apology in his eyes.
"I know man, it's just that if she did leave something it could have been time sensitive or gotten
lost. I mean, two months!"
I get that I took a lot of time to myself, but I needed it. Maybe I should have looked sooner, but I
doubt it would change anything.
"What do I do about the girl?"
I mean, I can't just take her word for it right?
"If she swears up and down that she's your second chance mate, then I say give it a try. Don't
jump in, but just get to know her. Allow time for yourself to feel whatever bond she feels and go
from there."
It's not bad advice, but it seems emotionally draining. How far do I put myself out? Would
Stormie approve?
I thank R for the advice and send him back to training before making a decision.
Give her a chance. How difficult can that be?
I stand quickly and dart for the door. She's somewhere in this house and I need to find her.
Since it's early, I figure she's still on the first floor, but when I check, she's not.
Perhaps she's moving faster today?
I check the second floor next, but become increasingly frustrated when she isn't there either.
There's only one other floor she'd be on and I told her not to go there.
I stomp up to my level furiously and scour every room until my bedroom is all that's left.
I open the door angrily, but my heart stops in my chest and I freeze at the sight before me.
"Miranda?"
My voice sounds off and I'm not sure how to feel.
She sits on the end of my bed in some underwear/corset like contraption with what I think is
supposed to be a seductive look.
Her blonde hair is pin straight, the exact opposite of Stormie's long inky locks that would turn
into s*x hair after a while. Even if we weren't having s*x.
"Why are you on my bed," I growl lowly.
Though hesitant due to my mood, Miranda stands and walks towards me slowly.
"I'm showing you. We are second chance mates and all I have to do is get you to feel the bond."
She holds her hand out but I stare at it begrudgingly until she puts it down with a sigh.
"Let me show you," she says stepping closer.
"Let's make love..."
