"Alpha! We're under attack!"
I can feel Stormie tense beneath me and she pushes me off her quickly.
"Come on Ragnar! They need us!"
Coming out of shock, my instinct take over and I grab my mates soft wrist. Jerking her back to
me, I watch her raven waves fly around until her dark blue eyes meet mine with confusion.
"Ragnar?"
I place my free hand on her cheek gently and shake my head.
"I want you to go to the safe room. I'll take care of everything out there."
A fire lights in her eyes and she opens her mouth to argue, but before any words come out, she
stops herself. looking me in the eye again, she nods and gives me a quick kiss.
I thought she had listened. I was too distracted to remember the didn't like being told what to do.
She was smart. She knew arguing was a waste of time, so she did what she did best. She played
the man and got her way.
I just didn't know that until it was too late.
I had run out of the pack house to find my gamma with the legions. They were surrounding the
pack house, protecting everyone inside. Wolves seemed to attack in all directions and my
warriors fought back violently.
Joining in, I opt for staying in human form, which not many of my men were doing.
Shifting into a wolf makes you more dangerous, but it also makes you more vulnerable. You can't
turn as fast or use your hands.
Upon barreling through the wall of warriors, I take on the first three wolves to come my way.
Compared to my pack, they are weak and a few snapped necks and shredded chests later, I look
around to see I'm further away. My army stands twenty yards behind me and I seem to have
moved to the edge of the woods in order to meet the enemy as they came.
Looking far into the leafy mess of a forest, I scan for any movement while also trying to use my
heightened hearing to hear the damage report R was giving the troops.
I think they're all g-
A ferocious growl sounds to my right and I turn away from the woods to see a large black wolf
flying through the air in my direction. I take a step back in preparation to hopefully avoid the
quickly approaching figure, but it flies to the side with a blur and there's a loud whine followed
by a sharp snap and gurgling. As a result, a sharp pain shoots through my chest and it's clear
one of my pack members just died.
Both figures, woman and wolf lie on the ground. The animal breathes quickly, but seems unable
to move and is quickly bleeding out, but I ignore it when I see my mate.
"Stormie," I whisper.
I stumble forward until I drop to my knees by her side. My eyes are wide to match my frantically
beating heart.
"Stormie," I ask shaking her body lightly. She isn't breathing.
"Stormie?!"
Doctor. I need a doctor! Mindlinking the head nurse, I order help immediatley and return to
trying to wake my mate.
"Stormie..."
Tears begin to pour out of my eyes when she doesn't answer and I curl down to rest my forehead
on hers.
I don't know how long we sit or how long I wait, but by the time the doctor comes and checks on
her, it's too late.
"I'm sorry alpha," the nurse sniffs. It's clear she's holding back some sobs of her own.
"Her neck was snapped. She's dead."
In that moment, my world came crashing down. I let out a furious growl followed by a pained
howl and the pack members join in behind me.
As it's clear the attack is over, my gamma sends the heartbreaking news to the rest of the pack
via mindlink.
'The Luna is dead.'
I'm startled awake by a slamming sound. A sharp gasp emits from my mouth and I shoot up out
of the bed, ignoring the sweat from my nightmare.
"So, man," my beta says with a wide smile. "I hear you have a date tonight."
