Chapter 3

736 Words
Belle The school bell rang, puncturing the peace in every student like a pin punctures a fully blown social balloon. Quelling the frustration, all the students including us rushed to the classrooms where a new boring year would be starting. As the three of us entered the classroom, everyone swirled in their chair silently and focused on us, “The beauties.” “Hey, Belle!” cried Jack. That stupid jerk in the whole class waved his hand, smiling widely at me as I passed. He was the son of the education minister and his father served in Army. “Hi,” I curtly replied and no matter how disgusted I was, I waved back before sitting on the last seat of the first row while Sunny on the last and Eve on the second last of the second row. We were not allowed to sit together in the classroom. It was a strong rule made by the Principal. Everyone snapped their attention when the teacher stepped in behind. “Good morning, class!” greeted Miss Katherine. She was the absolute sweetest teacher we’ve ever had so far. Her beautiful blonde hair came down beneath her shoulders and her eyes, which were an icy blue, sparkled as she looked out at us. I swear she looked like a freaking princess! Placing the bag and files that were in her hand onto her oversized desk, she asked, “How is the new classroom?” “It's beautiful,” we all responded in unison. I shouted alongside the other students even though I didn't feel that this classroom was any different than the last one. It was filled with the same boring chairs, desks, markers, whiteboards, and clipboards. Looking back to the front of the room, I saw Mrs. Katherine rest her hands on her desk and started her speech. “Today is the first day in your senior year. It is, indeed, a great pleasure seeing you all gathered here after the long break. Without taking much of your time, I want you to start your new year at school with hopes and dreams. No matter how limited they might be, do your best to make them a reality." She paused and smiled at us. “Regarding this matter, all students of the senior year class must fill out a career plan. Jot down all of those dreams and get started chasing them!” she finished her speech with excitement plastered all over her face. “Belle, would you please come up and give everyone this form?” Of course, I was prepared for her call to help. She had normally called on me the previous year to hand out papers and other little things. After delivering one to each student, I gave Mrs. Katherine the rest and took mine before finding my seat again. “What the f**k is this?” Beside me, Sunny whined as she scowled down at the form not bothering to even pick up her pencil. Eve, on the other hand, was in her own little world while she jotted down her career path with vigor. They were the exact opposite of one another. Eve learned too quickly and Sunny was too complacent. Even with their differences, they were both still ranked in the top ten academic list of our school. I chuckled and started digging around in my bag for a pen whilst studying the white page on the table that was all about preferences, dreams, and future plans. “May I come in?” asked a familiar voice. It was the same voice that had made me melt earlier and now it was filling the classroom. My eyes looked up and saw the guy standing in front of the door–his eyes kept low. Gasps echoed around the room and I became aware that he was actually well known. “Yes, please come in, Damien,” Ms. Katherine nodded, smiling. Yes, Damien! That was his name. He came in and paused as he became aware of the fact that the room was mostly packed. “Where should I sit?” he asked. “The seat beside Belle is still empty. You can sit there,” replied Mrs. Katherine. Damien gave her a confused look and she smiled awkwardly. “Belle is the brown-haired girl on the last desk.” What the heck! How come he’s never heard of me!?
