Mara hops into the Principal’s office. Her mother appears soon later. “Eight?!” the Principal exclaims in disbelief. Despite the fact Mara has tall figure, she still looked like a baby. The Principal couldn’t just allow such a girl into his high school. What if she didn’t cope?
“Does your school have any policy on age limits?” Leah asked sternly. The Principal says “no”. “Then why can’t my daughter school here? She passed the exams”. The Principal was finally won over. “An eight years old girl? Mara Peter, you are exceptional” he had said to Mara.
The news of Mara's admission into a top high school didn’t go well with Korma. She rather deal with a naive little girl than a smart one. She saw the joy, her husband, Michael had used to congratulate Mara. Even hugged her. Anger strikes up in her. She had been too quiet.
She thought at first she should be the first to bear a half Zeuga half human but since it didn’t work, she would make her mission paramount. “Aunty is proud of you too” Korma had faked a smile.
Mara, in her innocency, ran to Korma to hug her. “Thank you” she giggled.
Well, high school wasn’t what Mara had expected. Bullying an eight year old girl wasn’t hard. Mara laid so many complains to her teachers and principal but to no avail. It was in one of her visits to the principal’s office that she met Doctor Fawn.
Doctor Fawn was a science maniac, his recent obsession being on outer space creatures. Coincidentally, Leah had been studying about them. She had a strange hunch that Korma was alien. She had studied with Mara.
Mara identified a picture. It was a creature that had landed on Earth twelve years ago. According to research, it was greyish-green, skinny but had a Human’s body structure. It was reported dead but later on, they found out it could move. Strange enough it was found at a countryside’s graveyard. “SPEC 601” Mara said.
Doctor Fawn turns to her “what did you say?”. “The creature. It was called SPEC 601. It was said to understand our language but it never spoke” Mara explained all she knew about it. Leah would have been impressed if she saw her.
Doctor Fawn was also impressed. “What’s your name? How old are you?” he asked. The principal proudly answers “she’s Mara Peter. An exceptional eight year old”. Mara smiles, she had just one the favor of a top scientist. She was even more lucky to be invited to his lab.
It looked like aliens lived in it. Doctor Fawn had sketches of every possible body structure of an alien. He also heard of aliens that can adapt a human body. Mara’s eyes widened when she heard that, “is it possible some of my classmates are aliens?”. Doctor Fawn made a light chuckle but nodded.
Doctor Fawn wasn’t just intrigued by their body structures. He had heard of alien invasions in other planets. From many invasions, it showed they were more “alienic” planets out there that humans haven’t yet discovered. And if they could invade other planets, then perhaps they could invade Earth. He had an ongoing experiment to prevent that.
Rumor had it that at a particular countryside’s graveyard, a portal was established by aliens. It was their entry to Earth. It was rumored by an old farmer so it was taken as “tall-tales”. Still, Doctor Fawn has intent of visiting that place and meeting the old farmer.
“What! You really want to see the aliens portal, sir? What if you get hurt or something?” Mara couldn’t believe he was so brave. To her, if there were really aliens, they should just let them be. “I’m going there. You could come with me if you want. I already have an FBI agent who could take me there. So I’m protected” Doctor Fawn said smiling.
An intern came in to call the Doctor for his FBI agent had arrived. “I’ll be back. Stay here. Look around.” He patted Mara and left. If not Mara knew that Doctor Fawn, being a top scientist, was a very smart man, she could have termed him the most stupid man of all times. How could he be chasing after danger. Well, curiosity and inquisitiveness can be often mistaken as stupidity in the early beginning. So she rest her case. Whatever happens.
She went ahead to surf through Doctor’s files on aliens. Most were believed to have supernatural powers and could control one’s mind to do the unthinkable. Some alien species also do not age when they are on Earth and their body do not decompose till some special treatments are used or after a very long time. Mara saw different and more strange sketches than she had seen on these aliens. All research were made by the FBIs. “Uncle is FBI” Mara remembered. She would ask him.
She searched some theories on space creatures till her eyes finally landed on one.
“On the year 2020, Earth will be attacked by a planet called Xuza, with great urgency and for the safety of Earth’s inhabitants, Another planet had sent a representative. We are to return to Zeug with her for our protection”. Mara repeated the theory. Are they suppose to abandon Earth and live somewhere else? At the heading, it was termed “Fake Theories”. “Fake?” Mara asked. And if it wasn’t fake? What chances those Earth have against outer space aliens. “Is this true?” Mara asked again. She needed an answer. Is there a threat against mankind. “Yes” someone answered behind. It was her uncle Michael. “That information has chances of being true and could be from a reliable source. But our scientists refuse to accept it” Michael says. “Well, don’t worry, we will leave by then. Also, Doctor Fawn is interested in it. He will spread the news” he continues. Mara reads the theory.
It doesn’t have a specific month and what if it happens before the year 2020. “And who is this reliable source, Uncle?” Mara enquired. Michael hesitated then said, “Your aunt Korma”.
