Alec woke to an empty bed and was immediately listening for her. She was in the bathroom, brushing her teeth, and seemed to be humming something. Alec stood from the bed, knowing it was well past sundown, and he strolled into the bathroom to see her in a short robe, and her hair was kind of sticking out in places.
“Good morning.” He leaned in, kissing her cheek and then her neck where he had marked her as his, and then his hands ran down from her shoulders to her waist. There was a pounding at the door and he took a deep breath. “I’ll make it quick.”
He closed the door, got dressed, and moved as fast as possible to look presentable before opening the door to his office, and moving to close the door leading into their bedroom.
“Good morning.” He could feel the weight of the amusement coming off Thatch and Alec just moved to sit down.
“How can I help you today brother?” Alec asked when Thatch just sat down and smiled at him.
“Just wondering how long you are going to keep me from my new sister. You know how long I have waited for you to find your mate? Decades.”
“You made me wait how long to meet-“
“That wasn’t fair. It was not I who wanted to keep it from you. You had enough problems with the council before all of my issues came up… I didn’t want to add onto it, and to be honest… it was fun sneaking around.” Alec watched his little brother play with his new ring on his finger and smirked. He now knew what he had to go into town for to make sure that his new mate had all of her things.
“Well… my pet is showering if I hear correctly, then we’re heading to the hotel she checked out of to make sure she got everything, and then we will have some sort of date. Take out maybe.” Alec told him and nodded slowly along with the plan he really had just made up in his mind.
“Pet huh?” Thatch tried not to laugh, but his brother shot him a glare at the nick name and he just burst with it.
“Thatch.” Alec warned when he seemed to settle in like he was going to wait. “I need to shower as well, you’re not taking my wife-“
“There’s no way you’ve said your vows yet.” Thatch said sitting forward.
“You know what I meant. She is my mate and marked. She might as well already go by the human term. Vows will be said when all is dealt with in the council.” Alec reminded him and Thatch nodded slowly, and they both sat there for a moment before Thatch stood and walked to a painting that was on the wall.
“We’ve been fighting the council for so long. Are you sure everything will be done as we think it will be?” Thatch had to ask, the worry from the previous run ins, the check ins, and other inquiries. The entire council had backwards ways about everything. They never evolved with the times.
That is what you get from a bunch of vampires who think they are better than humans and other species.
Alec sat in his chair for a while, trying to think of a way to get through the to the council, or to find a way to separate from them. He thought for a long time, so long that when his mate came into the room her hair was dry, clothes were slightly crinkled from where someone folded or just tossed them into the bag she had.
“And here she is… sister darling.” Thatch was up and holding out his hands for her. Her shiny skin was turning a light pink and that made both brothers smile for two very different reasons. Thatch had her in his arms, hugging her and welcoming her to the family, offering to help her learn the vows for the ceremony, and that was when the color drained from her face.
She had a far off look in her eye, and Alec didn’t like it one bit. He stood, getting her to touch him, and she moved her mouth as if she was saying something, and Thatch was mumbling something about he was worried over what was happening… but Alec had seen this the other night when they first shared the bed. She was dreaming, sort of.
“I took her blood last night; it was so sweet… almost inhuman.” Alec told his brother, and he licked his teeth now, hating he was going to do this, but he pulled her hand up, slicing his fang into his finger, and he offered it to his mated brother. “What does she taste like to you?”
His brother moved in slow, taking his finger and dragging it down her bloody finger and taking it into his mouth so he didn’t have to lick her at all. Alec focused on closing the small wound before realizing that she wasn’t coming out of this little dream any time soon. Her eyes were glazed over, and she started to have little finger twitches against him.
“She’s a witch Alec. Almost pure blooded. I had witches’ blood before, but hers taste like this its rare.” Alec heard his brothers tone, he was sure, if not a 100 percent pretty close to it. “Could be an oracle… a seer. The council used to have one.”
“I am going to get her back in bed, let her relax.” Alec told his brother before doing as he told him. He got his mate into bed, knowing that she was an oracle might be a problem, the council at one point had 5 on call, their little prisoners since they were so useful… if they were down to one or less… they would want her.
Ideas flew into Alec’s head about what he could do, for her, for his coven… the others needed more help than he did. He could survive letting the council keep them both in their custody. But the idea of keeping her as a prisoner and telling him and her what they could and could not do, it didn’t sit well with him at all.
He sat at his desk and he was deep in thought when he heard her sit up in bed. He was up and heading her way at a human speed when she got to the door as well. “The council…they’re coming.”
“When?”
“Today. Tonight.” She told him and then she took the deep breaths as it seemed to start to take over her vision again. “We need to go. Leave. Run.” She whispered as she saw that they weren’t just coming for a visit, they were bringing men to kill them. To show the covens under the council lessons. She saw the men, they were big, they were mean looking. She started to get scared the longer she was seeing them.
She felt Alec moving her, she was going from one room to another and she could almost sense his emotions. He was worried about what she had said, but he also seemed deep in thought, his brain was like hers, could process so many things at once it was hard to focus on just one.
She felt like he was putting her in a car, and she felt like she could now be in the other car, the truck that was headed for them. She was in a quiet car, she could see the lips moving, she couldn’t hear the words, but then there was plans. She could see that they had someone coming straight into the front of the house, there would be vampires running in, round the house, blocking them all in.
She blindly reached around, noticing the door, finding the clasp and opening it. “Alec… we need to go, now, before they surround the property!” She shouted as she heard people moving around. “Alec. There is … too many.”
“Let’s get back in the car, ok.” She heard Thatcher and she got to the end of the door with her fingers and he helped her back in. In less than a second later she could hear two other people getting in the other side of the car, and she blinked, the vision changing and she felt the car starting to move.
She watched as she could see the cars she was in, two more bigger cars, all filled with those who lived in the house, but then it turned around, letting Amelia see there was one person standing at the front door still, watching them leave. “No… turn around, go back.” She grabbed at Thatcher who was driving, and she felt sick. “We can’t leave your brother-“
“He is going to join us later, calm down. He will, he told me you wouldn’t like it when you found out but I guess he didn’t think you would see him.”
“Thatch, there are men coming with guns, hate, and years of experience in killing who the council wants them to kill.” Amelia tried to get the steering wheel in her hands but she was kept away from it.
“We are leaving the area, Alec is going to go the back way… he will not be in danger.” Thatch was sure his brother was lying when he said that, but there was nothing to do other than get his sister, his mate, his friends… away from the fight like he was asked to do.
Alec would be ok. He had to be.
