Chapter 8
"CATHERINE! What’s wrong with you? You always fall asleep at six o'clock at night. Are you tired of your class." I heard my aunt's words so I quickly opened my eyes and turned my head to face her; and got up on my bed.
"Hey kid, get ready so we can have dinner," Aunt Nely ordered me and went out of my room first.
I took off my bed cover and again the same thing happened to me like yesterday. It's full of flower petals underneath my duvet. I quickly cleaned it up like it didn't bother me and got myself ready. As usual since I came here. I was always with Ms. Zoldic, and yet it bothers me that I still don't know her first name. And I only know her last name. It's also surprising that Mrs. Zoldic eats normal food, when as far as I know she's not human. That thing wonders me too. Maybe, I'll just ask Mocha tomorrow for the rest of the information.
After our dinner at the dining area, I immediately went back to my room. I sat in an antique chair and faced the antique mirror. I won't find anything if I just stay and ask Mocha. I also want to act according to what I can discover during my stay here. That man, who was in my dream. I don't fully understand why it has such an effect on me.
He is the one who always wakes me up whenever I am lost in my reverie but It feels good when he always calls my name. But, I couldn't even clearly see his face. Now that he suddenly appeared right in front of me I couldn't completely deny my deep concern. He wants me to stay by his side and it's as if there is a will in my heart to obey his wishes.
I touched my bottom lip all of sudden. Until now, I can still feel the cold touch of his lips on mine. I know it's stupid but I want to see him again. I have so many questions to ask. Is he really the one in my dream? But that dream of mine was shocking and terrifies me every time I recall it. It's a scene that I want to run away from and never want to see again in reality. I gasped and stood up. I gently laid my body on my soft bed and drifted off to sleep.
I was tossing and turning in my bed because I suddenly felt strange. I feel like someone is watching me. I slowly opened my eyes and was surprised to see a man standing at my feet. I could see his shadow through the moonlight. I quickly got up and turned on the light by my side. When I turned forward again, I was surprised that he was no longer where he was standing before. I suddenly felt dizzy and rubbed the back of my neck. Maybe I'm just imagining things again. And maybe because of what's happening around me.
I lay down again and didn't even bother to turn off the light. I fell asleep again.
A SUDDEN light flashed right into my face and that made me wake up. My sleep was so good and I didn't even dream of that bad scenery again. And if I could, I don't want to think about it anymore.
I climbed out of my bed and slowly approached the porch and breathed in the breeze. The sunrise is beautiful and I like the way the sunlight touches my skin, I felt so warm.
My surroundings are still cold and it looks like I can get used to this climate in this place.
I went back inside my room and immediately busied myself with getting ready for school. Our teacher's teaching in the village is no different here on the island, the only difference is that our Professor teaches all the lessons. Maybe, it's because of the length of time they kept in this world, maybe they store that kind of knowledge.
But I don't mind at all. As much as I like it, especially the subject, which is, History. It's still fine for me.
I got excited and liked it even more because I also wanted to know about vampires and their theories.
I sat on the wooden chair and faced the half body mirror. I just gently combed my hair and let it hang loose. I also used the perfume to hide my scent. I carry five bottles a day and I use up two bottles before the day is over. I also don't let myself get sweaty because that's a big problem when it happens. When I was satisfied with my appearance, I immediately left my room but I came back in and gently pressed my ear to the door. I saw my aunt Nely and Mrs. Zoldic were having a deep conversation outside.
"Does she know anything about our true identity?" I heard this curiosity from Mrs. Zoldic.
"No Señora. I followed what you told me and my niece doesn't mention anything about it too," aunty Nely answered, covering me up. I swallowed.
"It's good then, I don't want her to be harmed. I will be responsible if something bad happens to her. You know that Nely, Catherine's life is more important to him than us Nely, even before," Mrs. Zoldic said. There was so much concern in the tone of her words. Then I heard their footsteps stepping away from my room.
Now suddenly I wonder. Who are they referring to? I'm important, to whom? Who is he? I close my eyes tightly. There are still so many questions that I need to find answers to.
"Catherine, we're going to have breakfast," aunt Nely called me from outside my room. I straightened myself up and opened the door. I acted like I didn't hear anything a while ago.
"Good morning," I greeted cheerfully but contrary to the expressionlessness in my eyes.
"Did you sleep well?" Aunty Nely asked. I slowly nodded.
"Oh okay, let's go to the table," Aunty Nely added. I nodded my head and I just followed her carefully. When we reached the table. I immediately sat next to Mrs. Zoldic.
"Catherine, is it okay if you're just gonna walk later when you get home? The driver can't pick you up because Nely and I, we're going somewhere and we'll use the car," Mrs. Zoldic said. I just simply nodded without looking at Mrs. Zoldic. I'm stuck staring at my food. But when I noticed Mrs. Zoldic staring at me, I tilted my head to look at her.
"I'm fine, I'm used to walking," I answered.
"But if we can get home early, Nely will pick you up, okay?"
I just c****d my head. I smiled modestly and ate again. I bit my lip hard. I wonder where they are going. I sighed and just put it out of my mind. I just finished my food and immediately said goodbye to them.
WHEN I arrived at the university, the whole campus was quiet.
"Why are you so early this morning and you're alone?" I hit my chest in shock. That startled me.
"I'm studying, so I should be early," I answered and walked after him.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," he explained. I just nodded slowly and quickly distanced myself from him.
"Catherine..." he called me but I didn't turn around. Why is he talking to me? I looked behind me again but I was very surprised when he suddenly appeared in front of me. I gasped in shock.
"Please, don't be afraid of me. I know what you are–” he said but stopped immediately because there was a knife on his neck.
"Try to hurt her and I'll never let you live, Zairan Jacob." Mocha strongly threatens him.
"Wait, you two, just stop!" I weaned.
Mocha shook her head at me.
"Alright Mocha, let him go first, please," I begged. Mocha rolled her eyes and obliged her, even if it was against her will to hide the knife she was holding.
"Let's get out of here and go somewhere safe," Mocha said. Zairan started walking and Mocha and I just followed him.
While following Zairan, Mocha and I were talking secretly with our eyes. I was asking Mocha what Zairan is up to. But Mocha shrugged her shoulders. She doesn't have any idea and so do I.
I have no idea what his purpose is in talking to me and taking us somewhere privately.
We reached the safest part of the forest with Mocha, which is far from the territory of others. Mocha gently pushed me away from him, causing Zairan to frown.
"I'm not what you think..." he said.
I clung to Mocha's arm and hid behind her. Mocha was also deeply affected by what he said.
"I know, I made a bad impression the other day. I was just shocked to know that a human like you is here on our island. And you know what I mean Mocha," he explained and simply looked at me.
"You probably know what might happen to her Zairan if someone knows about this. So I'm begging you, if you really want to help Catherine. Stay away from her. That's the right thing to do, and you also know what I mean, Zairan. Catherine can be in danger like her!"
I can sense Mocha's anger towards him. Before I could react. She quickly pulled me away from Zairan. I want to ask why they have a conversation like that. I was also very curious about who that person they're talking about. The person who came here before me.
"Mocha..." I softly called her.
"If you're going to ask me something, please don't do it now, Catherine. Not now," she said and started to walk away. I shut my mouth and let out a heavy sigh.
