Chapter 10

2 weeks later The first month of being pregnant isn't as easy as I'd imagined. My boobs are incredibly tender and swollen beyond belief, not to mention the turning of my stomach when I smell certain foods. That's off my mind however, because Troy's nutritionist friend is going to be here any minute. He'll know what to do and how to keep the sickness at bay. I hope. True to the call he made earlier, Troy's friend pulls up in the driveway and I call for both of the Moretti's in the other room. "He's here!" Footsteps follow shortly and my boss opens the door while a medium height man runs up the steps and smiles at his greeting party. "Wow. It's been a while Troy. Jasmine. And this must be the lovely surrogate Tess. I'm Jay." He gives my hand a dramatic kiss before walking in. What a lively man. "I imagine I'll stay in the same guest room, but I'll worry about that later. Your description of this woman didn't do justice Troy," he says smiling at me. "If you'd do me the honor, I'd like to start now." Figuring he means the nutrition talk, I agree and he leads me to the kitchen where there's already a notebook layed out. "How far along are you? What symptoms do you have?" I explain the soreness, breast tenderness, nausea, and sickness by smell. Then Jay had the audacity to keep a smile on his face. How?! This is all terrible! "That's perfectly normal. I'd advise you stay away from the smell or sight of meats, unless you have a craving for some. Pickles are often a woman's pregnancy craving food, so well stock up on those. How much do you eat in a day?" I frown for a minute. It's not as if I measure and I'm not exactly consistent with eating since the sickness came, but Troy's done a good job of making sure I get at least two and half meals a day. "Between two and four meals a day." Jay nods, but his smile drops at my words. Writing something on the notepad, he continues his questioning. "Keep in mind, you're eating for two. I'd expect three meals and two snacks a day for the minimum. Think of me as your private chef. I'll make food that agrees with you and uphold the calorie count you and the baby need okay?" I nod in thanks and we spend the next hour or so perfecting everything food wise. "Done!" I laugh at Jay's silliness as he'd been so professional during our meeting, but now seems back to his old ways. "So, normally I'd never think of asking this to a pregnant woman, but... I mean you're the surrogate so it's not really yours..." His words have more of a question to them and I listen with a small smile. "What I mean is that you're very beautiful and I'd like to spend more time with you. Like on dates." No wonder he was so nervous. I give a small nod. "I think that would be fun." Jay seems relieved as he sighs. "Great! We could have our first date tonight! When I'm cooking for you, we could get to know each other and then we'd have a dinner date! If you're okay with that?" It doesn't take much for me to agree as I've been in this house for a long time. There isn't much entertainment, so a date would be nice. I try to think of the last time I had a date, but that was years ago. It wasn't even a real date. I'd gone out with Ryan Roberts, yes, THE Ryan Roberts. The one who ruined my life. It was a desperate attempt on my part to get him off my back, but it only made things worse. Jay is definitely nicer though and I think Troy will be pleased I'm getting along so well with his friend. Him, Jasmine, Jay, and I could go on a double date if tonight goes well! For now though, I need to wash up and get ready for my stay at home dinner date.
