Finley Pov:
Slowly waking up the unknown surroundings sent me into a spiral before the things that happened the day before came back to me. I was in a cave after rejecting my mate, Tanner, and the pack. I was finally free and away from anyone who wanted to hurt me.
“Holy shit.” I whispered finally feeling the weight lift from my shoulders.
‘We can celebrate later, crazy. We don’t know how long we were out and we need to get farther away from here.’ My wolf whimpered still handling the pain from the rejections.
I went to get up but my legs just wouldn't listen. Before I could fight through it my stomach growled louder than I had heard it in a while.
'I guess we should eat a bit to get some more energy to burn. I have no idea how long we were out but it must be about a day or more if we are this hungry.' My wolf whispered as she was still too worn out to do any more.
I grabbed one of the sandwiches from my backpack and ate it slowly even though I wanted to shove it down my throat. I knew I had to go slow and enjoy it because soon I was going to have to hunt to get food or find a human town to get some food and maybe settle down. I was still on the edge about living within another pack even if they would take in a rogue. Fat chance unless I made it to one of the smaller packs that were a long way from here.
Even after finishing the sandwich my body wanted more but I had to put more distance between me and the pack. I just needed to make it another few hours and then I could stop and eat again. Hell maybe I would even come across a human town by that time and I could just stuff myself silly until I was sick. I hadn't done that since I was five or six years old.
It was getting dark out when I finally made it out of The Cave. I must have been asleep for over 24 hours because the bruises on my body were starting to lighten already from my quick healing along with how hungry I was and how dry my eyes were when I woke up.
Nothing was making a noise nor did I see anything when I stepped out. Two steps out of The Cave was when his scent hit me. My twin and my father had been by here. I started to panic wondering if they were still nearby or if they had seen me.
‘Breathe. Take another few sniffs so we can see how close they actually were and how long ago they were by here.’ I could tell she was getting upset at how scatter brained I was acting but I just couldn’t seem to get my s**t together.
Straighten up, Finley. We are free and we are strong. I took a few deep breaths, taking in the scents walking as slow and quiet as I could to get closer to the stronger part of it. It was a few hundred yards from me and was a bit stale.
‘A few hours old I would say. We need to go.’ My wolf started to feel a bit of my own panic.
‘On it.’ I turned and ran making sure not to let my panic override my brain and body. No need to add more power to my scent and help them find me.
It wasn’t long before I started to smell a few of the others from the pack. I hadn't heard any noises except for the wild life but they have been here and it was recently. I should have known that Tanner and his father wouldn't let me go so easily.
I wasn't sure where I was headed or even what direction I was running in except that it was away from where I didn't want to be. Surrounding our pack was a couple of allies but from what I had seen they were good alphas so I don't think they would just give me back so that I could be sold but there was no way I could guarantee that. There was one pack that didn't care for us but wasn't an enemy. The last pack that was even remotely close to us was an enemy and they were for a reason.
If I could make it there I knew they wouldn't give me back especially if it was something that Tanner wanted but I wouldn't be treated right there either. Who knew if they would throw me in the dungeons or even just kill me pretending they kept me alive. They could be just as bad as the pack I'm running from so any direction I was pretty much screwed. If I can make it past the enemy pack lands there was a small human town that I could regroup in. That's where I need it to go.
As my plan started to form itself I got another sniff of my twins scent but this time it was stronger and more recent. I stopped dropping down behind the roots of a tree right as I heard a twig break. I didn't know who was there so all I focused on was keeping my heart rate down because that would be a clear giveaway with it going fast enough and loud enough they would probably think it would be a herd of elephants coming at them.
“When I find this b***h I'm going to beat the s**t out of her. Apparently she isn't as well trained as you thought father.” My twin whispered hatefully as his voice got closer.
I heard a smack and my twin gave off a low growl. “You keep running your mouth like that at me and you'll be the new b***h of the pack. Now focus I know I can smell her here.” My father growled back his scent joining my twins.
I wanted to look around to see if I was even close to any of the other pack lines but before I could I got my answer. “I don't see why we can't just hop over that short shitty fence and take a look on their pack lands. It's not like they can do anything. If they had enough force behind their alpha they would have attacked our pack a long time ago.” Thank you stupid ass twin.
I moved slow and steady peeking out from behind the tree root to see where my twin was looking and it wasn't very far off. It must be the enemies pack and I knew what I had to do. It was time to run and pray they wouldn't follow me over that fence.
I waited until they started to walk away and I made my move. I ran full force to the fence ignoring all of the noise that my feet and my backpack were making. When I heard their growls and their shouts I knew I had been caught. Now I just had to make it over that fence.
