Chapter 11: Even my wolf was a pain.

Ian Pov: I watched the last of her body disappear over the fence line and knew a lot of things were about to change. I still couldn't believe we didn't scent her or hear her from wherever she was hiding. I barely even noticed her running before it was too late. My son was after her within seconds but she had always been the best runner in the family. I guess that was one good thing that the goddess blessed her with since she always had to run from us. Turning toward my son I could see the wrath that he was promising her in his face. “Did you get her? Legally if she's severely hurt on another's pack lands we can go after her. Otherwise, we will have to wait.” He shook his head. “She'll recover just fine from the scratches I got in, but they are going to hurt like a bitch.” His chuckle sounded dark and pained. “This pack is our enemy anyway so I think we should still go over the fence and chase her down. After that last burst of energy she used I doubt she's going to make it very far and we could just drag her back.” “Can't. This may be an enemy pack and they may have never attacked us but they have secrets that would probably hurt our pack.” The memories of my dead mate pushed forward as a few brief pictures of her on these very pack borders talking friendly to this pack. “They weren't always enemies, but it doesn't matter now. We have to go report to the alpha and he can make a plan.” My son looked at me a little disgusted but agreed. He probably thought I looked weak by not wanting to jump that fence myself and finish hunting her down but what he didn't know was this pack was more of an enemy to our family than to the pack which is saying a lot. They knew secrets and I had secrets. I just had to hope the right wolf within this pack would find my daughter and either bring her back or kill her on sight for being a rogue. If not, this was going to be an even bigger problem for us. I linked the alpha and the rest of the search party that she had crossed into enemy pack lands and there was nothing else we could do tonight. He called us back for a briefing and probably to rip me another asshole. It wasn't anything new especially since the night his Luna died and he killed my mate for it. At first I fought back but it was pointless. I just had to realize that my punishment for the rest of my life was dealing with that asshole and it was all my daughter's fault. ‘I still can't believe I got stuck with you as a human. Blaming that little girl for just wanting to leave the daycare after being bullied by his pathetic son is the most coward thing I have ever heard someone say. You didn't even defend your mate to the alpha. You stood there and watched her die.’ My wolf Tony growled at me. Ever since that night and the first time I hit my daughter we had never been on the same page. It was rare we even shifted now because he would rather us die than continue to abuse her. I told him to shut up. I had started to prefer he be blocked away in the back of my mind because his voice irritated me. Of course, he didn't blame her and would blame us just because we were her mate. He even blamed the alpha for telling us to stay with him that day instead of going for our daughter and agreeing with him when he said my daughter just needed to get over it because Tanner was a boy and did boy things. I agreed that boys would be boys and my daughter needed to man up. Even though I did agree I was going to go get her but he refused to let me go. ‘Boys will be boys? But a female needs to man up? You're so freaking stupid I cannot stand you. That brat Tanner has always caused trouble for our daughter and he was a bully to everyone else too. Alpha doesn't care because it's his son and he deserves special treatment when someone should have knocked him on his ass years ago to show him how a real alpha runs a pack. I am ashamed that he will be our alpha soon and I refuse to recognize him as such.’ Great, now my wolf was going to get me killed. First he always fought me on how hard I punished Finley so I never got any pleasure from it. Second he was happy she made it over that fence knowing she would be safe once she mentioned her mother. She was friends with the Luna, several of the top warriors, and even the omegas. They all mourned her death a little more than my own pack which all got under my nerves. So after taking any enjoyment for revenge away from me and even now fighting my happy thoughts he was going to go against the Alpha and our soon to be Alpha he was going to let us be killed for it all. He didn’t feel sorry about it at all. ‘We deserve to die. Our mate is dead because we were too big of a p***y to tell our Alpha we had to take care of our family first just like he would do. She died because she did put her family first and put her trust in her pack. They are at fault not Finley and you f*****g know it.’ He growled his anger getting worse. ‘I hope Alpha Austen finds her. He was her mothers best friend and I hope he spills all the secrets he can before joining her in getting her revenge on this pathetic pack!’ “Shut up.” I screamed slamming him into the black space he had called home for years and locked him there. Everyone stared but no one said a word. Good. I didn’t want to have to use this anger on them but rather save it for what was to come.
