The morning’s lesson with Mark went well. They worked on Mark separating a calf from the herd, driving it into a small pen, and holding it there as Rio separated another calf, driving it into the pen with the first. Then the gate was closed.
“You’re doing great!” Rio said with pride. “You and me are gonna kick some ass at the rodeo on Friday.”
At the end of each week, the staff and guests put on a mini rodeo with good natured competitions and challenges to demonstrate the riding skills the guests had picked up over the course of their stay. Rio and Mark had challenged Trent and Lex as well as Sonny and Charlie to a team penning contest. The odds were against them as Mark was the only one new to the sport. He’d been the only guest interested in this aspect of rodeo during the week. Sonny
