Fredd kept running with a map in his hand. Now and then he looked back to make sure the killer wasn't following him.
'Brukk!'
He fell because his leg got caught in a tree root. Fredd immediately stood up and fled until he came to a large meadow. He stopped to catch his breath. He looked around and looked back at the piece of map in his hand.
He knew the place on the map, the place where he was standing now. Not far away, Fredd could faintly see a puff of smoke rising from under the tree. He could not see who had started the fire because it was covered in tall weeds. Curiosity made the boy approach him.
He peeked from behind the bushes. A boy wearing the same clothes as him was sitting limply under a tree. In front of him was a bonfire, the origin of the smoke he saw. Fredd immediately came out of hiding and approached him.
"Hey!"
The boy glanced over.
"Hi," he said in a very weak voice, "Can you help me? I need some water, please."
"Sure."
Fredd took out his half remaining water bottle. Drink it to the boy.
"My name is Peter. What's yours?"
"I'm Fred."
"Thanks, Fredd. I have already 2 days not found any food. As I was walking, I found a mushroom and ate it. I suddenly felt weak and was shaking. I thought the mushroom was poisonous."
Fred was silent. He had one more ration. But of course, you will not be full if you have to share it with Peter.
"Sorry, Pete. I don't have some food for you right now."
"That's okay. I also don't know if I can survive or not."
"Hey, don't think bad. I'll get some help for you."
Fredd looked around, but his vision was limited. He also couldn't find anyone other than the two of them.
"Stay here, I will seek help."
"Fredd..."
Fredd ignored Peter's weak call and left him. Break through the weeds that are as tall as him and go back into the forest. Fredd walked for fifteen minutes. Soon he found a coconut tree with dense fruit.
He once read an encyclopedia in the library that coconut water can minimize toxins that enter the body. Freed immediately climbed the coconut tree and dropped a few grains from the tree. He grabbed two coconuts and ran back to Peter.
He saw Peter still close his eyes, "Hey, Dude. I brought you coconut water. I'm sure you'll be better after drinking this."
No answer. Fredd who was punching a hole in the coconut felt something strange.
"Pete, can you hear me?"
He didn't move at all. Fredd immediately checked his pulse. Late. Peter is dead. For the umpteenth time, he had to feel the loss of a friend. Even though they didn't know the other participants, under these conditions everything felt different. They are like brothers.
Fredd lifted the coconut that he had hollowed out. The coconut he wanted to give to Peter.
"Rest in peace, Dude. Cheers!" he said as he lifted the coconut and drank the water.
A second later the boy wept bitterly. A silent cry that only he could hear.
Fredd stayed long enough beside Peter's corpse. Speaks to him knowing that Peter won't wake up.
"Well, I've been here too long. Is it okay if I leave you alone? Maybe the idiots who locked us up will take your body. I hope you have a decent burial, pal. Oh, one more thing, if you don't mind. I'd like to take some stuff from your backpack. I think it's more useful for me."
Fredd rummaged through Peter's backpack. There was a dagger, a rope, an empty water bottle, a cloth of no use, a compass, and one thing that surprised Fredd.
A map.
