Kim blinked. Faintly heard a voice not far from her. Even though her eyes were closed, she couldn't sleep well. In addition to being aware of his surroundings, she also had to keep his body balanced and not fall to the ground even though she had used the rope that tied her waist.
Kim faintly saw someone moving underneath. But that person only moves at one point. As if she was doing something. At first, she didn't think it was strange, maybe it was Samuel, she thought. Until a second later realized that something was wrong. Samuel couldn't have done it.
Kim looked at Daniel who was asleep on the tree branch below him. She woke Daniel by touching the boy's head with her foot. Daniel woke up and looked around, then looked up. His eyes adjusted to the darkness, and he could see Kim pressing her index finger to her lips.
At first, he did not understand, but a few seconds later he realized that something was strange. Kim pointed to the ground, right where Sam should be resting. Whatever it is is still moving.
Kim prepared to aim at the figure with her arrow, but Daniel blocked the girl. He was afraid that what Kim had hurt was Sam. The dark conditions did not allow them to see clearly, so they only relied on instinct.
Kim didn't want to hear what Daniel had to say. Her heart said otherwise. Without thinking she immediately released an arrow to where the figure was moving.
"AAAAH!!!"
The sound of a man's scream was so heartbreaking that the sleeping birds flew away. It wasn't Sam's voice. Kim excitedly took another arrow and took aim at the man and shot him again.
"Aaaah!"
The same scream echoed a second time, but Kim didn't stop. There were four arrows she fired at the man up to the fifth arrow, only a valley groan could be heard from him.
Kim and Daniel decided to go downstairs and see firsthand who and what was going on. Kim was still wary of the arrows in the bow, while Daniel was ready with the dagger in his hand. They slowly approached the figure. Thankfully their eyesight can adapt to the dark, so they know who is in front of them.
That's right. It was a black hooded murderer who was injured by Kim's five arrows stuck in several parts of his body. Before finally the man closed his eyes and didn't move anymore.
Strangely he was alone, so where was Sam?
Wasn't the last time he slept in this place?
Daniel knelt to check the man's pulse.
"Dead," he said.
They looked around the dark. Before long something else moved closer among the leaves. They immediately became alert. The figure then appeared in front of them quickly.
"Hey! ... Hey! This is me. Sam," he said, raising his hands.
It was just seconds before Daniel pointed the dagger at him.
"You... What happened?" Kim asked.
"I already knew that this man would follow me. As you were climbing up the tree, I felt someone watching me. I decided to leave my backpack and sneak sneakily to another place. My guess was right, not long after this man came and You saved me again." Sam looked at Kim.
"I mean... the two of you." He looked at Daniel, "Thanks, guys!"
They both nodded.
"Are you hurt?" Kim asked.
"No. I feel better after you guys treated him. Hey, I think the medicine you guys gave me was pretty potent. Are you sure it's just antiseptic?"
Kim and Daniel looked at each other.
"I don't know. There's nothing on the bottle. I thought it was antiseptic."
"Well, I'm not a pharmacist. So, I don't know about medicine. But at least with your wound getting better, this is a good thing," said Daniel.
"You are right."
Kim knelt beside the man's corpse.
"What are you doing?"
"I want to check his body. Who knows he might have something we can use as a clue."
Kim felt the man's body from the stomach to the top. When she reached the neck, she found that the man was wearing a necklace. Kim pulled it off.
"What's that?" asked Daniel.
"I think we found a clue."
