Chapter 25

722 Words
The sun was just about to come up but Mike and Luke had been running since fifteen minutes ago. Both of their bodies were covered in sweat that ran all over their bodies. Seeing a cave, Mike quickly pulled Luke's hand into it without speaking. They hid in the darkness with ragged breaths. Luke sat down wearily. Soon a herd of pigs crossed past the cave where they were hiding. "That's crazy! I can't believe it. We ran that far to avoid a pack of wild pigs,” Luke said. "You are welcome," Mike said in a slightly sarcastic tone. "Thanks, anyway." They were silent long enough to rest. "Do you still have the map?" "Yes. It's in the bag." While they were talking. A voice resembling a girl's voice emerged from within the dark cave. Making the two boys look at each other. Luke stood up and was about to check inside, but Mike quickly withdrew his hand. "Please, don't do that! We don't know who and what's in there. Is it a real person or not?” “Mike, precisely because we don't know. Therefore we have to find out. After all, you hear, it sounds like a girl's voice. Who knows she might need help." “But, Luke--…. Luke!" Luke ignored Mike's call. He walked slowly into the darkness. “Hello! Anyone here?” he shouted. Mike who saw his friend could only sigh. He hoped that nothing might be dangerous from inside. But that thought was the complete opposite of Luke's. Instead, he thought that the voice came from one of the participants who might be hiding from something, just like them. “Hey, I am Luke and this is my friend, Mike. It's okay. Don't be scared. We won't hurt you. Come out!” No answer whatsoever. They both fell silent and looked at each other again. CRASH! "Aaaah!" An arrow came from the dark direction and pierced Luke's chest. "Luke!" Mike immediately ran to him and helped him. He immediately took Luke's bag which was on the ground and they immediately left the place. CRASH! "Aaaah!" Again Luke shouted. This time it wasn't an arrow that hurt him, but a dagger that pierced straight through the back of his head. Luke fell silent and slowly fell to the ground, "Luke!" Mike nervously looked into the darkness in horror. I don't know what's in there. But what he had in mind right now was the man in the black robe who might catch their attention by making a female voice. Mike looked at Luke. He was lying on the ground with blood gushing out of his mouth with his body moving in a disorganized manner. It was as if he was in excruciating pain. There was no hope for Luke. Mike involuntarily burst into tears. Mike looked at Luke who was dying. He knew this was a betrayal. He knew he would feel guilty for the rest of his life if he did this, but right now Mike had no other choice. With tears in his eyes, Mike opened Luke's bag. "I am so sorry, Buddy." He took the map that was in Luke's bag. As Mike was about to stand up, with what strength he had left, Luke grabbed Mike's leg. The look in his eyes seemed to be hoping for help from Mike even though it was already impossible. Mike looked back at him and let go of Luke's hand. "I'm sorry, Buddy. I won't die in here." An arrow flew and pierced the ground to the left of Luke's body. Surprised Mike looked back into the darkness. “Please, rest in peace!” After saying that he ran fast with tears in his eyes without looking back. Mike continued to run through the forest that had been illuminated by the sun. He didn't even care about his injured arms from rubbing against sharp branches. Until finally he arrived at a meadow. Mike plopped down on the green grass. He sobbed loudly. Let go of all the sadness in his heart. He feels guilty and guilty. After calming down for a while, Mike got back on his feet and grabbed the map lying beside him. Not sure what else to do after this. He put the map in his bag and continued on his way.
