After school: Part three

ADIRA POV Adira stood off the corner on the paved walkway in front of her house and watched as Kendra reversed and drove off not before blowing a horn of goodbye at her. She turned to go into her house when the rough sound of a blind being drawn down caught her attention. It was coming from the tall-story building beside their house. The sun was high up in the sky that it made her upward vision uncomfortable but Adira was still able to catch some peeping toms before they could escape behind their drawn blind. She wasn't surprised at the curiosity of their neighbors. Their neighborhood was a middle-class neighborhood with most of them working at stores or doing some menial jobs so is unreasonable that the presence of such an expensive sporty car like the one Kendra drove will garner attention. Adira waved at one of her neighbors that happened to meet her eyes while she was looking up before making her way inside. She took a detour into the kitchen for some glass of yogurt, and a bite of cookies that her mum made yesterday, and they couldn't finish before heading up to her room. She walked into her room and slipped off her school bag and letting it drop at the spot where it fell. Her eyes swept around her room and she cringed at how messy it was. Half of her clothes were lying on her unmade bed, her laundry basket was filled, some of the chocolate wraps she had eaten yesterday night when she woke up in the middle night hungry were littered all over the room, even her desk where she studies had her books all over it. Tidying has always been her worse nightmare but looking at her room she is going to have to stomach the tedious work of getting her room cleaned or she is going to have unpaying crawling tenants come to stay with her, but that wouldn't be now. Is definitely going to be later, cause right now she was feeling too drained. She threw herself on her bed, clothes and all, rolling to her back she fixed her eyes to her white plain ceiling as she played back the events of her first day of school. Her wandering thoughts landed her on Kendra. As her thoughts replayed Kendra's stunning features in her mind she felt her heart began to beat in her chest and the sudden urge to talk to her dad about Kendra gripped her. She flew off her bed and hurried to her desk where she brought out her diary from the upper drawer of her desk where she locked it away. She has always hidden her diary away from sight, to avoid it falling into the wrong hand's cause that will be disastrous to having her innermost thoughts out there. She opened the diary, flipping the pages till she got to her last entry. She picked up her pen from her pen container and bent down to write. Hi dad, I am back from school and I must tell you I had a very eventful day. It turns out that my new school is no different from my old one. I got bullied again, Adira wrote going ahead to recount the incident of the hallway and the cafeteria to her dad on her book, as the words fell from her pen, a single tear dropped from her eyes to the paper. She quickly wiped it off before continuing her writing. I am sorry dad for making you worry, but you don't have to cause it wasn't all a bad day. I met this girl, her name is Kendra. I don't know if I should call her a friend or my savior. Well since I have never had anyone be interested in being friends with me I think I will go with savior. And dad I just tell you I have never met any girl as stunning as she is. She is not only beautiful she is kind, strong, Adira wrote and went ahead to write down how Kendra threw the boy that assaulted her, who is bigger than her against the wall like he weighed nothing. As Adira gushed about Kendra in her journal her initial sadness gradually gave way to a smile and by the time she was done singing Kendra praises in her journal she was smiling at the thought of the other girl. She looked down at all she has written about Kendra and blushed. Sorry, dad, I didn't mean to come off like I have a crush on her but I can't help feeling like she is special, but whether she is going to be someone very important to me only time will tell, and that is all I have for you about my first day at school. Though crappy things happened to me, I think it wasn't all that bad. Talk to you again, soon. Bye, love your daughter. Adira sighed after her last words and let her pen fall to the desk. After telling her dad about Kendra Adira couldn't still let go of her thoughts. It was as if the girl situated herself at every corner of her mind that she couldn't think of anything else except her. Needing a distraction from Kendra's plaguing thoughts Adira stood from her bed and went to her closet where she hid her art supplies. One of the things that helped her cope at her old school through all the bullying she was going through had been her art. Something she does for an escape but since her dad died she has not been able to pick up a pencil. She started drawing even before she could write and her parents have always been supportive of her art and had even encouraged her to do more with it but since she has never been able to believe their words about how good she is, her art remained only as a hobby, her means to escape reality some times. She pulled out her sketchbook and then went to her lower drawer and took out her drawing pencils. She had so many of them in different sizes and shades. Whenever she draws she likes to do it under the sound of music. She went t her desk and picked up her old and worn-out pods. It was a gift from her dad on her sixteenth birthday. The iPod brought back old memories of her dad. While her slim fingers traced over the scratched and worn-out surface her mind flooded with memories of the day her dad gave her the gift. It was the night of her birthday, after a mini birthday celebration with her parents and some of their neighbors that her mum had invited. None of her classmates had shown that day, not that Adira bothered to invite them, not after the last time where her parents had wasted their time and the little money they didn't have to organize a birthday party for her and her classmates' no one had shown up even though Adira had invited them, that was during grade school. After that day Adira didn't bother inviting anyone to her birthday, in fact, she had wanted to stop celebrating it all together but her parents wouldn't hear of it. That night she had gone in for the night thinking that the cake and little snacks were all that they had for her, but a knock on her door had made her open her eyes that were about to close in sleep she saw her parents standing there by her bedside a wide grin on their faces. " What is it? " She had asked in alarm thinking something was wrong. " We have something for you, " her dad had said and presented her with the iPod. That night was one of the best nights in Adira life because the iPod has been something she had dreamed of having since she was thirteen years old but never dared to ask because she knew how expensive it was. From that day on the iPod has been her only companion and she had handled it with so much care. Adira sighed before going back to where her art supplies laid on the floor. She stretched out her frame on the cold tiled ground, opened her sketchbook to a new page, and then fixed the earpiece connected to her pod to her ears and under the loud bass of her music began to sketch. Most of her work has always been about animals and landscapes. She rarely made drawings of human beings, because human beings have never interested her and she has never had any good interactions with them so has never been inspired to draw them. Her pencil began to make traces on the white paper, she had no idea of what she was drawing but was letting her heart be the guide, that is how most of her drawings are created. She let her heart guide her hand. She was so lost in her work that she didn't hear the sound of the front door open, or the footsteps falling softly on the floor drawing closer to her door, or the loud knock that banged on her door until the door was flung open and her mum yelled out her name. The thunderous sound of her name penetrated through the loud music hitting hard in Adira ears to her subconscious making her aware she was no longer alone. Adira stared up from her sketchbook to see her mum standing by her door gawking at her like she had seen a ghost. She paused the loud music in her ear to greet her mum. " You are drawing again, " Carolyn muttered, her words falling in a soft surprised gasp. Since her husband died two years ago, her daughter has not been able to draw a thing, they have even tried therapy to see if she can be able to start drawing because it would be a shame if her daughter never drew again because she was so damn good at it, but that had not helped and they have given up. It surprised and pleased her to see her doing what she loved again. It meant that her daughter was beginning to heal from the loss of her father. Her mum's words made her glance down at her sketched book. The gorgeous image of Kendra's face staring back at her from the white paper startled her so badly that she quickly shot her sketchbook as her heart raced in her chest. " Is not a big deal, " she stammered in a nervous tone getting off the floor and clearing off her art supplies which she returned to her closet. Carolyn stared at her daughter. Her face was flushed, her fingers were pulling at her trouser, while her feet tapped restlessly on the floor and her gaze was going everywhere except in her direction, the tale-tale signs that her daughter was hiding something, but she knows not to push and when she feels comfortable about it she will tell her. " Have you had anything to eat? " She asked softly, changing the subject. Adira can get so lost in her drawing that she forgets every other thing including food. Adira shook her head unable to speak because of how nervous she was. She was still freaked out by Kendra's drawing and nearly being caught by her mum. " I am going to make us some dinner come join me later, " Carolyn said and then turned and left the room. As soon as the door closed behind her mum Adira flung herself on the bed. What the hell is wrong with me she moaned rubbing her palms across her face as she wondered why she wouldn't stop thinking about Kendra. With the ceiling not able to provide her with the answers she wanted Adira got from the bed and went to her closet where she changed her school clothes to casual ones. A baggy black shorts and a plain blue polo. She walked barefooted to join her mum in the kitchen. " Honey, I think we have run out of salt can you run to the grocery store to get some, " Carolyn requested her daughter as soon as she walked into the kitchen. Adira gaze went down at what she was wearing, she contemplated whether to go like that or change. Feeling that no one was looking at her she decided to go in what she was wearing, and only put on leather palm slippers before leaving for the store. The grocery store wasn't that far from her house so it took Adira a few minutes to get to her destination. She made her way inside and nodded at the few patrons who glanced her way before going to the condiments section. She was browsing through the lineups of ingredients searching for the salt when she heard the store door pushed open and then a loud yell asking everyone to get down on the floor. Adira threw herself on the floor her whole body quivering in fright. She heard footsteps heading in her direction and looked up, her gaze connected with the frightening dark gaze of one of the robbers through the mask covering his face. Adira quickly looked away but she was already noticed. AIDEN POV. It was customary for him and his friends to rub some groceries stores for the fun of it. And today the store they picked out to hit landed him with an opportunity to have his revenge. A dark malicious smirk curved Aiden's lips when his eyes met that of the human that had caused his humiliation at school today. He made his way to her, " get up, " he whispered into her ear. He was going to have some fun with the human and this time there will be no Kendra to stop him.
