Chapter - 33 Not Scared

942 Words
Rick vanishes in the mazes of alleys, and I turn to Marty, “So now what, when is he going to give us an assignment?” “Have patience Luna, he is going to ask his leader for a task and if it is approved then we will get the task.” “Okay”, I say as I turn around on my heels, it’s annoying to wear leather jacket and this funky makeup is annoying me. “So, Marty what if we mess up this assignment, like we are not able to do it and get caught, then what?” “Don’t ask dumb questions Luna, we will be freed because we are in police.” I look at him with narrow eyes, “That much I know Marty, what will happen to Rick?” He looks down for a moment, “Oh him, hah, he will be killed” “Even if he was not exposed?” He sighs, “Yes, even if he was not exposed. This gang is very particular about their work, they don’t tolerate incompetence.” “That is very professional of them.” “Hmm, it is.” I stand still in the alley waiting for Rick to arrive, while waiting Marty lights a cigarette. “What one Luna?” “Oh, no I don’t smoke.” “Well, now you are undercover so you should know that all of them smoke, it is kind off a thing you know..” “I get it Marty. But I won’t” I stand and wait when suddenly Marty taps my shoulder. “Luna” “Hmm..” “I have a confession to make.” “Confession to me?” “Yes, Luna. Don’t judge me, but you see Luna. I have kids, they are so small. I have a family.” “Okay Marty but why would I judge you. You have a family I get it.” “No Luna. You know I think I couldn’t get in the inner circle of H.H.H group because I was scared, that if someone I choose to do their work gets caught, I will be killed.” “Wait.Marty. So, you are saying that even after being undercover for two years you are still in outer circle because that is the only way they won’t kill you? Am I right?” He sighs, “Yes Luna.” I stay silent because just months ago I would have been shocked to my core and infuriated. I wouldn’t be able to imagine someone jeopardising such important work for family. But now I get it. “Marty. I don’t judge you. I think I understand. You should stay alive for your kids. Just don’t do anything that makes your being alive harder to bear than you being dead.” He smiles, “Thanks Luna. I honestly didn’t expect you to understand. You have always been the idealistic one.” I laugh, “I agree Marty, but I think death gives everyone a different perspective to think upon.” He nods in agreement. We wait for a while in our new found silence, which is not awkward anymore, just peaceful. The atmosphere is filled with smoke and from in between this smoke emerges Rick. “Mate, got a job for ya” “Thanks man” Then Rick turns towards me, “New girl,..” “Sarah” “Yeah whatev’s. Boss got an assignment for ya. Follow me” Marty goes off for his job and I follow Rick, to the abandoned warehouse. He sends me to a warehouse and then closes the door behind me. A man walks inside. He had huge scars on his face, he walks upto me and stares into my eyes, “If life gives you choice which life, would you rather live a hard one or an easy one” His eyes look in my eyes searchingly. “The hard one….if it is on my terms.” He looks at me and smirks, “Fine. As you said, do you wish to do this job?” “Yes”, I answer. “Okay, This is one packet of cocaine, there is common route, where every policeman knows drugs goes through. You have choice, either take this one packet or this one bag.” I look at the bag, “What would I get if I send the bigger bag.” He smirks, “You are a smart one, aren’t you.” “I am.” “If you give deliver either of this safely, you earn our trust, but if you deliver this bag full of cocaine. You get to ask me a favour and I will fulfil it.” I nod, “I agree. I will deliver the bag” I turn around and start to walk. When he interrupts suddenly, “You will constantly be under our surveillance.” “No problem”, I reply.  I open the door when he says in a loud voice, “You didn’t ask what would happen if you weren’t able to deliver it?” I stop. “I don’t care, honestly but go ahead.” “You will die.” He says and I can feel his smirk. I turn around a smirk intact on my face, “And like I said scar man. I don’t care.” I walk out of the door. I will be under surveillance so it means if the police help me, they will know that I am with them, which means I can’t ask for their help. I will have to do it on my own.
