Adam tells Phoenix the truth about Gracie…
After Samuel Townsend’s funeral, Phoenix and Adam stopped by the Marquee for dinner. As they sat in the semidarkness, Adam studied Phoenix for a while, dreading the bad news he was going to have to share with him.
“What’s wrong, Adam?” Phoenix asked.
Adam looked up at him and smiled sadly. “I’m just thinking about something I have to tell you. I guess there’s no time like the present.”
“Bad news?”
The sorrow in Adam’s gaze embraced Phoenix. “I’m afraid so.”
“So, what is it?” Phoenix said, forcing himself to keep a smile on his face. “I think this is a particularly happy time for us. With the burial of Samuel Townsend in hallowed ground, we’ve scored a victory. What news could you have that could bring a dark cloud over that?”
