Two months ago,
“Sarah!,” Seema barged in and Sarah looked at her left and smiled wide before complaining. “And, now you are coming?” But then Sarah smiled wider looking at Aroma who was trying to run with her tiny legs.
“Sarah Auntie,” Aroma was wearing a beautiful white dress and had a flower in her hand.
“Yes, my darling,” Sarah looked at the makeup artist and excused.
“No, Aroma you will ruin her dress,” Seema said but Sarah was quick to accept the flower from her hand.
“You don’t need to worry. Aroma is already doing me a great favour…” Sarah kissed Aroma’s head and looked at Aroma's dress. “…You are the best flower girl in this whole world, thank you so much,”
“She has to do it. You had always been her godmother. We are going to miss you, Sarah,” Sarah looked at Seema and turned her mouth up. “I am going to miss you all too.”
“Are you going so far?” Aroma asked and Sarah looked at Seema. “No, Aroma…I will always be in your heart. And, you can always come on your vacations to see me. You understand?” Aroma smiled and looked at her mother.
“Of course, we can’t be away from Sarah for long. I will surely get you to see her.”
“She looks so pretty,” Aroma giggled making Sarah smile. “Thank you,”
The hairdresser was quick to say, “Sarah we are still to work on your hair.” Sarah looked at her back and apologized, “Yea,…I am really sorry…” But get distracted again with her cell phone ringing, “Let me get it for you,” Seema said and Sarah got her attention back on the mirror.
“It’s Max,” Seema said and Sarah smiled seeing Seema picking up.
“What it’s about?” Sarah asked but smiled when she heard Seema say, “No, you can’t see her before the vows. Don’t you really want to keep the suspense?”
“Of course, there is no way Sarah is going to see him like this. Her gel hair is in no…” Sarah laughed seeing her mother hurrying in.
“Mom!” Sarah exclaimed and tried to get up but her mother’s pointing finger was enough to freeze her. “Get your hair done. I will talk to Max.” Judith said and Sarah looked at the mirror and smiled shaking her head. She knew if Max had called it must be because he was always short on patience. But for today there was no way she was going to let him see her like that.
“Stay still for three minutes and I will be done. Can you do that, Sarah?” Her dresser said and she whispered, “I am so sorry…you have my all attention now.”
“Sarah…talk to him.” Her mom got the phone to her ear and she whispered, “Hello,”
“Sarah, it’s really important. I only want to see you for a minute. It’s really important. I can’t talk about it to your mother.” Sarah got her eyes to her dresser who seemed busy working on her hair and whispered, “Can you give me three minutes?” She asked Max and heard him huffing.
“Only three minutes. I am outside your room and I have to talk to you alone…so,…”
“Don’t worry…it will only be three minutes,” The line got cut on the other side while Sarah’s mom said, “He sounded anxious. Is everything alright?” Sarah bit her lip smiling. “I am sure it’s something important mom. I know him this much.”
“How can you know a person in four months?” Her mother said casually making Sarah recall the first time she met Max on a flight.
“Mom…” Sarah looked at her mother while Judith too looked at her. “…he is the only person that could make your daughter laugh.”
“The only reason I didn’t poison that clown. I had the chance though.”
“Mom!” Sarah gasped while Judith laughed and came to hug her daughter.
Four months ago when Sarah exchanged her business class for a heavily pregnant woman. She didn’t know she was going to sit beside her future husband. He was talkative and funny. And, the way she had always guarded herself with the NGO’s work all of her contacts were always very uptight with her. She mentioned him in front of Seema and Seema pointed how it was after years she was talking about a guy.
And, though she had received Max’s card it was Seema who contacted Max to invite him to be the part of their initiative to shelter homeless people. Max did come at the one day help and left his resume for the job. Sarah didn’t see him intentionally as Seema had already told her how she had invited Max. But they were really hiring and an energetic person like Max was really a perfect fit.
And, from the first day, Sarah took him under her wing. She really enjoyed his company. She tried not to mention how this NGO was run by her mother. She didn’t want to intimidate Max. And, loved how he thinks about other people selflessly. He had always dreamed to move to New York City and it was almost a decade after when Sarah again met a guy she wanted to see smiling always. And, as Seema pointed Sarah really wanted to accept Max’s advances but one thing always held her back. Her fear. Her fear of exposing her true self and be busted. She feared one day she will let that clingy Sarah out no man wants. She had kept her distances, talk less, not get excited and it had made her mysterious much but she always knew it wasn’t herself. And, if she gets close to Max she knew she will reveal herself. But with him at what point she started talking more and squealing more was out of her grasp. He could get the best out of her.
And, one morning when she smiled recalling one of his jokes she did realize how she was looking forward to seeing him every day nowadays. Though Sarah had decided to take things slow it seems Max didn’t want to stay single anymore and the moment he went down on his knee her heart swell. At that moment, she didn’t want her thoughts to ruin their perfect moment. She knew how much courage it takes to get on that one knee. She said yes but her mother was the first one to bust.
“I will no longer allow you two to work here. Will it be fine with you? Max? Do you still want to marry her? And, Sarah…would you like to marry someone who has a job as volatile as Max’s even when the guy is in his thirties...there's bound to be something fishy.” She stared at her mom that day. Sarah had already told Judith how Max had suffered depression in his childhood and had an abusive father. He was still fighting his ghosts and couldn’t get a degree. That added to how he is always hopping the jobs.
She knew her mom didn’t like Max. She knew her mom had put efforts to prepare her differently after her first breakup. And, she was living perfectly helping the ones in need but it was after years that she dreamed of having her own family. And, it was after years that she felt her old self. “I would choose him in a blink, mom.”
Her mom was shaken. After everything that happened years ago, she had tried her best to guard her precious daughter. Her mom knew that Sarah had a heart that would beat for anyone but only for this once Judith wanted to see Sarah smiling. And, though Judith would choose for these two to wait more she couldn’t have the heart to stop her daughter.
And, only for this one time...Judith hoped for a miracle. And, be this Max the perfect choice for her daughter.
“You are done,” Sarah’s hairstylist said making Sarah say, “Thank you so much…” But then she looked at her mom, “I think I shouldn’t make Max wait,”
Seema, Judith and stylist left the room and only a blink later Max entered. Sarah blushed instantly seeing him in his perfect royal blue blazer.
“Sarah…you won’t believe it. I am in trouble. I think…I don’t know.” Sarah who was only expecting his reaction at her attire got her eyes narrowed in surprise. “Is everything fine?” She asked back.
“Look I know it is going to sound weird…but my account is frozen. And, we have to pay the planner right away. I know it was on me and I am trying to figure it out…”
“It’s fine, Max. It is fine…I will wire them money right away.” She noticed him exhaling and shook her head. “Max with a trouble face. It really doesn’t suit you. Are your friends here?” She asked all the while on her phone as she wired the money to her friend who was planning the wedding. Max and Sarah had decided on everything together so Sarah already knew the bill.
She looked at Max and he shook his head. “Do you really want to do with a person like me? I am really not perfect, Sarah. Maybe your mom is right about me.” And, this made Sarah look at him and bite her lip.
“Max…I am sure about you, really. Are you…are you having second thoughts!”
“No…no, no, no, Sarah…I know I want you. You are the most perfect thing I ever managed...you are so precious...and,...god...you...you are my bride. You...Sarah...you...” She felt his voice getting c***k and smiled when he got his ring finger to his eye's corner.
“What?” Sarah huffed and looked back at the mirror.
“You are the most beautiful bride I had ever seen.” Max said walking to stand at her back. She looked at him in the reflection and for a moment inhaled looking at him. “Thank you so much, Max. Thank you so much for being Max.”
She walked down the aisle in the same church where once her grandmother said her vows. The day ended with a lot of laughter and dance before they got on the plane to Switzerland for their honeymoon. Of course, it was a gift from her mother. Though she didn’t want to accept it and was about to refuse it but couldn’t after seeing Max shocked enough to squeal.
For Sarah, he was always like this. So, predictable, and honest and easy-going. If he is happy you can see it. If he is mad you can see it. Even at thirty-two, he was full of life. And, would update everything on his social media. It didn’t come as a shock when Sarah woke up in her honeymoon suite to check herself tagged in the pictures Max had already uploaded. Though he had told her it was just his casual efforts she knew he wanted to become famous on i********:. And, it seems legit how he couldn’t let go of this beautiful suit uploads when he doesn’t even forget to post the rain. He was a good photographer and she admits it every time when he clicks a picture.
She hovered over Max's who was still sleeping in the bed and smiled before whispering, “Good morning,” Sarah smiled when he stirred but gasped when she felt two arms around her body before he got her under him.
“This is the best morning. I have got you, Sarah. Of all the people in this world you chose me to spend your life with. I promise I am going to give it all. You will never ever regret marrying me.”
She smiled looking at his face and moaned when he came down to plaster a warm kiss on her neck. Her breath hitched feeling him hard when she managed to whisper, “I know Max. I know.”
They say good days always slips in a blink. They aren’t wrong. Getting back from their honeymoon they knew they had a lot on their plate. Sarah was already in contact with a real estate agency and was looking for a small house in New York. She wasn’t looking for something lavish but any place with a little garage would do for her.
Through her recommendations it wasn’t hard for her to land a job quickly in a non-profit organization as an accountant but for Max they both would sit every evening and send resume to several companies. He would be applying for entry level jobs and Sarah knew they always had a lot of requests coming. Landing a job was hard for him but Sarah knew he was looking for it diligently. And, all she wanted was to not let him feel alone at anything.
Sarah would walk into a warm and clean home with dinner always ready. Max would even mention how she shouldn't get her feet down for long because they are swollen for standing too long. She didn't know how he could notice it. But he was always right if she had pain in her feet.
Her mom was happy seeing them both working it out. And, Sarah was making new friends at her job. Only a week later, Max started going for a mart as a salesman. The only thing they didn't have more than four hour shift to offer him.
She would try to get home early to make dinner but he would always make something before leaving the home. Sarah smiled before getting the dinner to microwave.
She was still setting the table when she heard Max coming in. "Hello," Sarah smiled while Max seemed a little beat.
"Was your day fine?" Sarah asked,
"Yea," He tried to fake a smile but Sarah didn't get to see him fine because he was quick to hold her from her back before he whispered,
"I...sometimes...I really want to be someone you can be proud of, Sarah...I...I fear one day you will leave me,...you will see...right through me and leave me. I can't lose you. You are everything for me at the moment...everything..." Sarah listened to him carefully and held his hands that lay on her belly.
"...promise me you will...you will never leave me no matter what," Sarah smiled and turned her head to kiss his nose.
"I promise, Max...I...I don't have in me to leave you...ever. I promise nothing can come between us...I have got you,"
What do you think about Max's character???
Umm...I have my own way of building it...so for now...don't have any conclusions for what this character will come out to be...be...very open about it...while I am trying to make all of these characters...very close to reality...
But soon...very soon...you will know what to think about him without any ambiguity.
Also, I won the f*******n love contest and got first place. And, definitely, nothing was possible without you people so...thank you...thanks a lot.
Also, the next chapter is coming in a few minutes or an hour.
