(Ambrogio’s POV)
I didn’t expect when I came to the Snow Mountain Pack, I would be finding my beloved. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I was estatic. I have been searching for my beloved the last thousand years. I yearned for the companionship and now I would finally have it. She also wasn’t a weak little thing, making the perfect Queen. Normally, vampires didn’t mate with anyone but other vampires or humans.
We walked into the living room of their pack house; my beloved wrapped in her brother’s embrace. My vampire still felt uneasy with him touching her even if they were relatives.
‘Get his grimy hands off of her.’ Steel hissed in annoyance. He wanted to be the only one to touch her. She took a seat away from everyone as she looked at her family calculating. What was running through that pretty little head of hers? I wanted to know her every thought.
“Are you not disappointed in me?” She asked shyly as she bowed her head. I couldn’t recall her name. Did they even mention it? She seemed to be trying to avoid their answers. Why would they be disappointed in her?
“Of course, not Ava.” Her mother and father exclaimed at the same time. She looked up in shock, surprised by their answer. All I was focused on at that time was her name.
“Ava.” I whispered to myself, but it seemed she heard as her gaze snapped to mine. I watched her expression relax as she smiled in my direction. I would die a happy man if the last thing I saw was her smile.
“My full name is Avalena, King Ambrogio. I prefer Ava though.” Ava said softly, her eyes melting away every layer of ice wrapped around my heart.
“You do not need to address me formally Ava. You may call me Grey. Only the people closest to my heart address me by my middle name.” I said with a smile. Steel melted inside my mind as her smile grew bigger and her lips uttered my middle name in a whisper. Our name sounded so sweet coming from her plump lips.
Her head tilted in thought, and I wanted so badly to crush my lips to hers, making every thought of hers disappear. She turned her focus back to her family, who had amused smiles on their faces. “Why are you not disappointed?”
I frowned at her question. Why was she so determined that her family would be disappointed in her? She has been missing for the last six months. If they were asking for my aide, it only meant they had exhausted their own resources to find her. Their relieved expressions when they found out the Silver Slayer was her, made me realize how much they cared about her. Did something happen between them and her to make her leave? Did they kick her out? Too many questions were brewing in my mind, as they went wilder over the seconds.
“This was not your fault dear.” Her mother said softly, looking down sadly. “I am going to inform Wane and Aster of your return.” She got up quickly, leaving the room in a rush. Who were those people and why did she seem guilty?
‘I don’t like this. Let’s take our beloved and leave.’ Steel exclaimed pacing around my mind as he was preparing to sink his teeth into anyone who dares to even upset our beloved.
“We found out how Millenium was treating you. We should have never placed you into that type of situation and we feel betrayed by the boy we trusted you with who hurt you in such a horrible way. We should have never married you off to him, I am sorry.” Her father said as he looked down in guilt.
“MARRIED HER OFF. This is my beloved; you cannot marry her off.” I yelled in frustration. I was annoyed, no wonder I had been waiting so long to find her. First, she was stuck in the wolf realm and secondly, they married her off to another man. Steel hissed, ready to pick up our beloved and run her out of this god forsaken pack.
Ava got up slowly, coming closer to me. My rigid body began to relax as my fangs retracted. I didn’t realize I had gone that far in my shifting. My bold little beloved sat right on my lap, running her hand through my hair. Steel automatically obeyed his beloved’s demeanor, calming down as he stared at our beloved lovingly. She was perfect and we were already so in sync with each other. I wrapped my arms around her slender but tone body as I leaned my head on her shoulder.
“I do not blame you guys for marrying me off, I knew you were trying to protect me.” Ava said softly, no malice in her tone.
I cut her off, “From who? Who is after you, my love?” I asked her softly, my breathing hitting her ear. She shuttered as I watched her suppress a moan. Oh, how I can’t wait to pull every little sound from her. I grind wildly, loving the way my presence affected her.
She wiggled around nervously before gulping down. Was she afraid? “Of you.” She whispered so softly, as if not wanting me to hear it. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. From me? They didn’t even know me.
‘Rumors are, anyone who doesn’t sign an alliance in the wolf community will be killed by the vampires and who is the top vampire?’ Steel replied, he started proudly before he realized he was talking about us and felt ashamed our mate was scared of us.
“The rumors were only rumors; I never wiped any packs out for not signing an alliance and I never stole the children and female wolves.” I replied reassuringly, as my beloved turned to stare at me. Was that shock I detected? She must have been thinking about what I replied too. “I cannot read your mind yet Ava, just trying to reassure you.”
“Aster, Wane and Millenium are on their way.” Her mother clapped excitedly as she came pouncing back into the room. Her father and brother looked concerned at that statement, maybe because of the way I just reacted. Ava began to squirm on my lap, avoiding all their gazes. She was uncomfortable and I had a feeling it had to do with this Millenium guy coming.
“Why would you invite Millenium? After all he had done mother.” Ava’s brother Dante spoke with disdain. He was furious and I could see his canines poking through. Ava hesitated, looking nervously towards me. I nodded in approval; I knew she wanted to calm her brother down. She sighed in relief before placing a kiss on my cheek. I was shocked but didn’t let it show. Ava’s eyes widened at her actions before a deep red covered her beautiful cheeks and neck. She was embarrassed. I smirked before she scurried off towards her brother. The bond was already pulling her to comfort me and want to give into the affection. She was so natural and fit perfectly in my lap. We were meant to be.
“They were already out together. He didn’t want to come but Wane said they weren’t delaying any longer to see Ava. They are forcing him to come. They are divorced now anyways; it shouldn’t be a big deal.” Her mother calmly said as she took a seat by her father. Not a big deal? He did something to her, something that caused her to go into hiding for the last six months.
“What did he do?” I asked calmly, as Ava finally started walking back to my lap. She stiffened before avoiding my gaze and plopping herself back on my lap. Her face automatically hid behind my neck, and I regretted my question.
‘You made her uncomfortable and sad.’ Steel hissed in fury, getting upset I caused this to our beloved. I rubbed circles with my hand on her back, trying to help her relax.
“He married her and then ignored her for six straight months. He neglected his Alpha duties, causing everything to fall on Ava, he flaunted woman on tv and refused to speak to her. He isolated her completely. He insulted her, saying a mere human wasn’t good enough for him.” Her father said. That couldn’t be all of it. She seemed traumatized by this guy, and she was too strong for those things to traumatize her. What did they mean mere human? She was a Lycaon, top it off the elemental magic we saw today. She was a special one. I looked at Ava questioningly when she peered up at me.
She looked down in shame, before breathing out. “I didn’t have my Lycaon while I was with him. I got her after I left. He is my mate as well. Sea, my Lycaon, says we are special and the last of our kind, meaning we have more than one mate.”
I understand now. I wasn’t jealous, I was furious. “HE f****d OTHERS WHILE YOU WERE MARRIED TO HIM AND YOU BEING HIS MATE.” My anger was hard to reel in, Ava flinching from my tone, so I tried as much as I could.
“WHAT?!?!” Her father boomed as he jumped out of his seat, pacing around. His anger seemed to match mine and I am betting her mother was regretting having him come now. She looked just as shocked as everyone else. I am going to take a guess at this one, no one else knew Millenium was her mate.
“Mother, you might want to call them back and tell them that Millenium may not come. Seems father and King Ambrogio might just rip him apart if he shows.” Dante said worriedly. He didn’t seem like he was defending the boy, more like trying to protect his father from the implications. I could do what I wanted, being the only King in the entire realm.
“Do you want to see him?” I asked Ava softly. Everyone froze before turning their gazes to her. Way to put the pressure on people. My guards rose in alert as I looked around for the threat they were sensing.
“They are here.” The guard standing behind me said, his body rigid. Why did I have a feeling this wouldn’t be a happy visit like the current one we were having? Everyone became tense, as I felt them walking towards the door. The doorbell rang out in silence, bringing an awkwardness within the house. No one moved, no one spoke, they barely breathed. It was almost as if they were playing, as if they were not home. Do they realize they could sense the presence inside?
Ava rose to her feet, her face transforming into a blink look as I realized her scent was gone as well. She covered her scent. Does she not want him? She walked towards the door, before placing a fake smile on her face. She slowly opened the door, peering at the people on the other side. Weirdly enough, it was only them three. No guards, no beta. Weird.
‘Maybe they were having a family outing?’ Steel suggested with just as much confusion as me. The man brushed past Ava, knocking her slightly as the other two wrapped her in a loving embrace. This indifferent man must be Millenium. I stood at my feet, growling threateningly. Fine, I was slightly jealous, but it was the disrespect that got under Steel and I’s skin. How dare he shove her as if she is nothing but a speck of dirt under his feet.
“WHAT THE HELL IS THE VAMPIRE KING DOING HERE?” Millenium bellowed as his scuff rose. He crouched in a protective position. I ran over to Ava, crouching into a protective stance. Ready to fight for my beloved. I wouldn’t mind sharing, but the disrespect and blatant mental abuse was enough for me.
