Chapter 5

(Avalena’s POV) Someone had to answer the door. All my family were playing possum it seems, like they weren’t vicious wolves. I wanted to scream at them, they were shifters too guys, they can sense you. Top it off, mother was the one to call them, from the home phone as well. They weren’t just going to go away without a reason. I stood up abruptly, shocking my mate. I was already so drawn to him. The last thing I wanted to do was leave his embrace. Knowing he fully accepted me, even if I was a Lycaon and not a vampire. I steeled my expression, not giving any of my emotions away other than a polite, welcoming smile. I covered my scent, knowing full well I wanted nothing to do with Millenium. Even if he found out I was his mate, I didn’t think he would accept me. Why do you want a mere human when you can have an sss wolf, I rolled my eyes at my thought process. That was the last type of woman he flaunted around and one thing I knew about myself and Sea, we could hold a grudge. ‘We won’t accept him if he doesn’t accept us.’ Sea said determinedly, hiding her presence. If he was going to accept us it would be with him thinking, we were only a weak little human. I opened the door wide, enough room for anyone to squeeze by me. Instead, Millenium decided to bump into me. Sparks lit where he touched but only annoyance flared up inside of me. Any desire the mate bond was trying to bring through got washed away. With Grey I wanted to jump his bones, touch him every second and defend him with my last breath. With Millenium it was the opposite, I wouldn’t mind taking his last breath. I was shocked by the sinister thought from my mind trying to make it disappear, as I gave a warm hug to Alpha Wane and then Luna Aster. I gestured for them to come in. As soon as I shut the front door, all hell decided to break loose. “WHAT THE HELL IS THE VAMPIRE KING DOING HERE?” Millenium bellowed as his scuff rose. He crouched in a protective position making me furrow my eyes. Weren’t they in alliance with him? Grey didn’t wait even a second as he ran over to me, crouching into a protective stance. His nails extended, as his face morphed into his vampire form. Long fangs protruding out of his mouth, sharp indents lining his nose as they extended over his cheeks, blood red eyes glowing as he snarled in a protective way. I couldn’t help the genuine, loving smile that appeared on my face, loving the way he would protect me from anything even though we had just met. The confusion on the newcomers' faces made me giggle. Grey c****d his head, as his attention turned towards me. I wish I knew his vampire’s name right now. How I would love to see his reaction to me saying his name out loud. “Hey vampy.” I chuckled in amusement as my eyes lit up in amusement. “Put your fangs away and stand by my side. You aren’t my bodyguard handsome.” Grey retracted his vampire features, straightening himself out before coming up behind me and wrapping his strong body around mine. I leaned back into his embrace, happy to feel my mate against me. Sea purred in enjoyment as she tried to snuggle closer to him. “So, you think I am handsome?” His playful tone and warm breath against my ear, didn’t stop the blush from creeping up my neck. I tried to hide myself in his chest as he chuckled in amusement. I am happy he found enjoyment from embarrassing me. “We invited King Ambrogio here to help us find our daughter. Seemed that was all we needed to do, and Ava found her way back to us.” Mother said with a hint of amusement, she was enjoying my embarrassment as well. I could hear the delight of having me home though, making me feel slightly guilty for staying away. How I ever thought she would be disappointed in me is a wonder. “How could this be happening? A mere human? This isn’t possible, I am stronger than this. I can’t have a weak human by my side, a harlot at that. Look at her.” Millenium was mumbling to himself loudly, as all eyes were watching him pace around like a caged animal. Grey’s arms tightened around me, reading himself for some type of attack. His body was tense as he tried to control himself. I wanted to rip Millenium’s tongue out for speaking about me like that. A determined look crossed his face before setting his penetrating gaze on me. I stood tall, as tall as I could while being wrapped in Grey’s embrace. I steeled my emotions, as Sea placed a blinding shield around our heart. We would not fall to the ground crying, whatever words he was ready to throw at us we would be prepared for the impact. “I will NOT be mated to a weak, pathetic human, specially one as ugly and useless as you are.” Millenium spat out venomously, as foam seemed to spit from his mouth. Everyone around us, other than Grey and his guards, gasped from his horrid words. “I release you from bonding with me, I could never bare to be with a disgusting harlot like yourself. I, Millenium...” He was cut off by his father’s fist flying into his face. Millenium’s whole body turned from the impact before he turned his penetrating glare to his father. The fury fuming off Millenium seemed to triple, pissed that his father was defending me. I mean he was right? “How dare you place your hands on me father. I will not be mated to a mere human. No matter what you do, I will reject her.” Millenium gritted his teeth, as his hands clenched into fists and then flexed outwards. He was trying to control his anger. Nothing inside of me wanted to try to calm him down, as my own annoyance flared. He wanted to reject me? I should reject him. ‘The difference between him and us, is that we would never disrespect the moon goddess like he is trying to do right now.’ Sea stated confidently. I knew she was right; we would never disrespect her in that way. “You will not disrespect the moon goddess or your mate. We are close friends with this family and all you have done recently has brought us shame. Disrespecting your wife, divorcing her, putting your Alpha duties to the side, and now trying to reject your goddess gifted mate.” Alpha Wane growled as he got into his son’s face. “How can you say that? The harlot is all over the vampire king as we speak. Does that seem like someone I should be with? The goddess was wrong, she made a mistake.” Millenium vented, seeming to get more aggravated with every word he spoke. “She is MY BELOVED, and I would suggest you hold your tongue before I do it for you.” Grey spoke calmly, with a threatening tone. Again, the newcomers were shocked, but Grey only raised an eyebrow at them. I was impressed by his calm demeanor. ‘We are keeping him calm. This is all our doing.’ Sea said in a proud tone. She always thought so highly of us, I had to roll my eyes at her tone before a slight laugh slipped through my lips. Grey glanced down at me, looking at me with a glint of mischief shining in his eyes. I couldn’t help but match his energy. “See, she has someone. Now if I may, I, Alpha Millenium, reject you, Avalena the mere human, as my mate.” Millenium gritted out before falling to his knees in pain. I stared at him, wondering briefly why I wasn’t feeling anything before I shook it out of my head. So many things were different with me, I learned to stop questioning them a long time ago. “I will never disobey the goddess. If you chose to ignore the bond, I will respect your choices. Though I will not accept your rejection. I, Avalena Snow, deny your rejection Millenium.” I spoke clearly, no feelings being betrayed within my tone. Alpha Wane and Luna Aster looked at me in shock, not expecting I would deny his request. After everything he put me through, I would have loved to accept it, but I would not go against the goddess. Even if I didn’t want to be with him, he was lined in my path for a reason. “Suck up bitch.” Millenium hissed in a mumble before storming out of the house. Everyone seemed to be stunned in silence, just staring at where the door was slammed shut. Alpha Wane and Luna Aster glanced around in horror and shame. Their son just shamed their whole pack by disrespecting another Alpha and the vampire King. “I am so sorry for the way our son has decided to act today and what he did previously to you.” Luna Aster said sincerely, staring directly at me. “You have no need to apologize. Your son acted on his own and I do not blame you for any of this. I hope you can accept my apology for taking off like that.” I said calmly. I didn’t want to hear her apologize for a grown man’s actions. “Either way, what our son did here today was unacceptable. We will be having a talk with him and if I have to Aster and I will step back into the Alpha and Luna role. I will not have the pack failing or thinking mates are interchangeable. We must be leaving but we are both so glad you are home Ava and safe.” Alpha Wane said sternly before sharing a fair well with my parents. They walked out of the house, I was sure Millenium was in their car, meaning he would have a long lecture ahead of him. I smirked knowingly, slightly enjoying the way he would be fidgeting uncomfortably in his seat. Grey looked down at me, raising an eyebrow questioningly. “What is the meaning of your expression right now?” Grey whispered huskily, causing a shiver to spread down my spine. Damn these reactions. To know a mate can do this to you, I wouldn’t have been able to live without one, or multiple, apparently. “I am not sure what you are talking about King Ambrogio.” I replied innocently, as I gave him my best puppies eyes I could muster. His sigh told me I had won this round and now I know how to make him absolute putty in my hands. ‘You are one evil, evil girl... Oh, I love it.’ Sea bounced around in excitement, loving the way I was teasing our mate. I think she enjoyed finding out a way to get our way even more. “I need to get back to my kingdom after this weekend. That will give us two days here. Is that alright with everyone?” Grey spoke firmly. I knew he was asking but his undertone said there was no room for disagreement. I raised my hand, silencing my family's disagreement so that I could speak first. “I think that is for the best. I would rather like to see my new home. You guys can visit at any time. You do understand, right daddy?” My puppies were still in full use, and I watched him sag his shoulders in disbelief, same as my brother. Mother looked in disbelief at them before her eyes drifted back to me. “I cannot believe you all fell for that again. I swear she is part witch, how the hell can she always play you like this.” Mother said in exasperation, tired now that she was the only one left trying to fight for us to stay longer. “Language. Do not swear in front of our little girl.” Daddy reprimanded mother, as she threw her hands up in disbelief. She muttered to herself before turning away and stocking off towards the kitchen. She must be working on dinner. “Dinner will be ready in twenty. Ava, please try not to make your father pour while I am not in the room.” Mother screamed back, almost answering my thoughts instantly. I started to giggle as father looked down in shame, and my brother and mate looked at me in confusion. “What is she talking about?” Dante asked in confusion. Grey patiently waiting for an answer as well. I grabbed Grey’s hand, pulling him back to the armchair he was sitting on previously, as I slightly pushed him into place. As soon as he was fully sitting, I plopped myself on top of him. He groaned, causing me to glare at him. He lifted his hands in surrender before speaking. “I was just joking love. I love the way your body feels against me.” My cheeks burned as I understood what he was referring to. Was I sitting on him turning him on? ‘Is that a bad thing? At least our mate wants us.’ Sea scoffed at my thought process. I knew what she meant. She was happy this mate accepted us, she wouldn’t say it, but the way Millenium ignored us, tortured us with sleeping with others and trying to reject us, affected her as much as it did me. She just hid her pain better than most. I didn’t have to listen to her whine and beg for him to come back to her. ‘Are you not worried about being mated to a vampire?’ A voice filtered through my mind. It took me a minute to register that Dante was mind linking me. I have never mind linked anyone before, so I jumped slightly. Grey dropped his conversation with my father immediately as he stared at me in concern. s**t, now what? Should I tell him I was just shocked, maybe that I was cold or... Goddess. Dante looked to be shifting awkwardly in his seat with worry. Didn’t seem he would be any help. “Are you alright Babygirl?” Father asked softly, seeming to be worried as well. Well, this was great, now the attention was fully on me, and I had no clue what to even say. I nodded my head in response, causing my mate’s eyes to narrow in suspicion. Why was he looking at me like that? Before any other questions could be thrown at me, mother called all of us into the dining room for dinner. Saved by the bell, or my mother’s yell to be more exact.
