Three. A Mystery

The moment that Elina walked into the room, her legs buckled under the force in the room and she fell on one knee, gasping for air and hoping for some sort of reprieve against the Alpha’s power that filled the room. The air was thick and it almost felt like there was some sort of vibration happening. Sinister knew that Elina would be of no use to him if she eventually passed out from his overwhelming powers so he let up a bit. Allowing the older woman to breathe easier and struggle to her feet. “Alpha.” Elina greeted shakily, the after effect of what she had just endured, plus the fear of whatever the Alpha had to say to her consuming her frail frame. It wasn’t often that the Alpha needed her or her powers, in-fact she usually had a minimal sort of contact with the man and she wondered what she might have done to anger him and trigger him into using the Alpha command on her. “Your protégée. I need all the information about her and where she’s from.” Sinister concluded, watching the woman with careful eyes for any signs of lies. “Aerith is my niece. Her mother died while giving birth to her and I took her in ever since then, caring for her and teaching her the ways of a healer. She never met her parents, as her father was never in the picture.” Elina replied, twisting her fingers in nervousness. Sinister thought over it for a while. Elina was not an original member of the pack, she had been a part of a smaller pack that he had acquired in a raid but he had never mistreated the older woman because her healing abilities and potions were the best he had ever seen. She had a cure or at least something to help every ailment, she spent days in the forest, seeking out roots and herbs that she could use for her healing potions. She had become an essential part of the pack and had never caused any trouble so it was easy to believe her. “Your sister, What was her name?” Sinister had to ask. It had been a long time since he had killed the Witch and her mate, maybe even centuries had passed and Aerith did not look a day over nineteen, but that name, he just had to be sure. “Diane.” Elina replied and Sinister let out a breath he wasn’t aware that he had been holding. “What abilities does Aerith have?” Sinister asked again, the more he knew about the mysterious girl the better for him. She had occupied his mind from the moment that she had stepped into the room and had created some sort of itch in his mind that clawed at him and refused to go away no matter how hard he tried. It had caused him to loose control and go into Aloha mode and his wolf had almost taken over without his consent, that was never a good thing. He had to be in full control of his other half to make things work within his being. “She’s a healer in training. She has no abilities.” Elina stated and this made Sinister frown. Aerith had exuded a lot of power from the moment that she had stepped into the room, till she had left. In fact it was only after she had left that Sinister had been able to breathe well, but he knew that the healer wouldn’t lie to him, so he kept these thoughts to himself. He observed the older woman for a couple minutes, noting the way that her head was bowed in submission and the trembling of her frame out of nervousness. He knew that she was far from comfortable and he had to let her go. Sighing heavily, he massaged his temples, willing the ache that had begun to nag there away. He had called in Elina, hoping to get some answers from her, ones that could solve the mystery of the dilemma that he felt within himself, but all that he had now were even more questions, ones that he knew the healer couldn’t provide answers to. “You’re dismissed.” He said finally, his super hearing not missing the small sigh of relief that escaped her lips. Sinister knew that he was going to have to do a little digging around to uncover more about Aerith, there was nothing wrong with the younger girl, the Alpha just couldn’t seem to get her out of his mind and some things about her didn’t add up. Like how she had no abilities, no scent, how she had such a commanding presence that seemed to weaken even himself. Dragging himself back to bed, he knew that he had to get some sleep or he would be completely ineffective Come morning. And seeing that he had a lot to do from checking up on the damage caused by the attack, to seeing that the warriors that had lost their lives were properly cared for all of those things would occupy most of his day and the last thing he needed was a foggy mind. Just as he began drifting off to sleep, the itch appeared again, this time it felt more like a tug. Sinister tried to force himself to ignore the tug but he was suddenly bombarded by a presence. There was an active presence in his mind and a slither of fear ran through the Alpha’s mind. He had no idea what to do, he tried to hone in the location of the presence and realized they they were far away, almost outside of his pack grounds. He had never felt anything like that, never experienced another living presence inside of him. It felt like he could feel the person’s emotions and feel them as though they were really here. Knowing that there was no sleep for him that night, he sighed heavily for what felt like the hundredth time in that night before slipping out of bed and deciding to locate the presence, just to calm the tug that he was feeling. Walking out of his home, the peace and quiet of the night made it hard for anyone to believe that there had just been an attack on the land hours earlier. It was easy to hear the night creatures humming, croaking into the night. The sky was starting to give way for the sun. The gentle breeze carried some sort of peace and comfort. Morning was here already, and soon the sun would be out and another day would begin. Sinister continued to follow the lead of the tug and he was right. The presence wasn’t within pack grounds. His senses heightened the moment that he began moving outside of the pack grounds, listening for any sort of threats. The Alpha did not know what to expect, for all he knew it could be anything, so he had to be prepared. Suddenly it stopped, the presence disappeared from his mind. The tug became dull and almost faded, the only thing that remained was the itch and that had no lead for him. Sinister almost screamed into the night air. He didn’t have a location to get to now and that troubled him. He knew that he had felt a living presence in his mind but without the tug he couldn’t hone in the location. He continued in the direction that he had been initially headed to and soon enough he arrived at a cabin. All the lights except one was turned off and through the windows he could see that there was a person moving around within the house. Creeping closer to the house to get a better look he paused when he heard a voice. It seemed like the person was having a conversation but there was no other voice coming from the room. The single voice sent shivers down his spine. He immediately recognized it. Spotting a window he approached with the stealth of a fox, peeping into the room the sight of Aerith arranging some bottles into a cupboard paused the Alpha in his steps. “That will be hard to do.” She said, Sinister looked around the room for someone else but there was no one except her, in fact it looked like she was the only one in the house. “Yes, yes. I understand what you’re telling me but trust me it will be very difficult.” She continued, picking up some books that had been left open on the table, closing them and arranging them into the bookshelf on the far left of the room. She sighed heavily as though frustrated, before finally pausing in her movements to address the empty space beside her. “I’m not saying I can’t do it. I’m just saying that it’s going to be difficult, plus...” she trailed off as if she had been interrupted. And once again she sighed, resuming her chores of stacking the books on the shelf. “Fine I’ve heard you. Now shut up and let me work.” She finally said, her voice eerily calm and soothing even when her words were harsh. She had just started wiping the table with a rag when she paused dramatically in her actions. Shutting her eyes tightly she stood still for a moment. When her eyes flipped open she immediately turned towards the window that Sinister was crouched under and with a determined look on her face, she began approaching the window.
