Even though they were no longer chest-to-chest, Lucy could still felt the residual feeling of Andrew's heartbeat. It was strong and fast, and it comforted her.
Meanwhile, Leo had hastily made his way back downstairs and through the lobby. He ran outside and around the hospital, desperately wishing to have the pair in his sights again. When he saw them again, he sighed in relief. “Miss Yates! Andrew!” he called again.
Lucy and Andrew turned to look at the doctor.
“How did you both survive?” Leo asked in astonishment.
“We used a rope,” Andrew casually explained.
“Rope?” Leo blinked. “Where did...”
At this moment, Lucy slowly got up from the ground. She felt a little dizzy, so she placed a hand on her head.
“Miss Yates, are you alright?” Leo asked, getting distracted.
“I cushioned her fall, so she should be alright,” Andrew told him.
Leo placed a hand on Lucy's shoulder. “Let's go get you checked out, Miss Yates. You too, Andrew.”
Andrew followed Leo as he guided Lucy back into the hospital.
“This has certainly been an interesting first day for you, Andrew,” Leo remarked as he sat across from him in the lobby. “I'm sorry it wasn't quieter. Well, whatever passes for quiet in a mental hospital.”
“It's fine. I'm just glad that Lucy is okay,” Andrew said honestly. After all, he was the catalyst that started this whole drama, so he felt a little guilty.
“Just a word of advice, if I may. In the future, try not to startle the patients.”
“Got it.” Andrew had the suspicion that he was at risk of losing his job because he got distracted by Lucy. However, he guessed that Rosa insisted on giving him a second chance.
Leo pressed his lips together. “Andrew, I have to know what happened on that roof.”
“Well... I found Lucy in the stairwell, and she ran away from me. When I followed her up on the roof, I lied and told her that I would help her escape. I found that rope on the roof and then repelled down with her. But, the rope snapped, and we fell before we reached the bottom.”
A rope was equivalent to a gun at a mental hospital, so Leo wasn't so convinced that it was just left on the roof. But, he didn't have another explanation for its presence. And on top of it, he was about to retire, so he didn't need to concern himself about this incident anymore.
Andrew couldn't tell Leo the truth about what happened. He didn't know the reason why a hitman had tried to kill Lucy, but he figured that she should be the one to break her cover. If he spilled the beans now when Lucy didn't want him to, it would only bring her trouble. After all, she was technically the safest locked away in a psychiatric hospital.
“Dr. Turner, where is Lucy now?” Andrew inquired.
“After she was checked out, she was sent back to her room.”
“Can I see her?”
Leo narrowed his eyes but guessed that Andrew had a crush on Lucy. He knew that it would lead nowhere, so he thought it would be okay for them to meet once more. “As you wish. But, don't scare her again.”
“Don't worry, Dr. Turner. I won't agitate her again.” Andrew couldn't wait to meet Lucy. He still had a lot of questions to ask her.
When Andrew came to Lucy's unit again, he found that the number of nurses had increased significantly. It seemed that her previous escape also made the hospital a lot more vigilant. But, he knew that it wasn't a bad thing, as she would be much safer.
There was a nurse standing guard outside, and her expression tightened when she saw Andrew.
“Hello. May I go in and visit Miss Yates?” he asked politely.
“I'm sorry, but I've been given orders not to have this door open again for the next twenty-four hours,” the nurse answered with a shake of her head. “We can't risk her escaping again.”
