The Alpha

WHEN the last person exited the office, Braille pushed the button in the remote control. The curtain that veils the glass wall lifted. The brightness from the outside entered the gloomy office From the glass wall, the skyscrapers of the business district can be seen since her office is situated at the penthouse of the Wilson Builders Inc. Her company owns the building where the offices reside. Currently, Braille is the CEO of Wilson Builders Inc. She got the position from her father. Her younger brother, David, was the head of the Contracts and Resources department. The position was suited for him since he finished law about a couple of years ago. It was not only the position in the company that Braille inherited from her father but also the position in the pack. Yes, she is a werewolf. Alpha to be exact. She is the current alpha in Moon Howlers Pack. She inherited the alpha position together with the company about seven years ago. She could have the alpha position when she reached 18 years old but she told her father that she wants to finish her degree in college first. Her father, Alpha Brandon, accepted the request she asked from him. Three years after that, Alpha Brandon introduced her to the pack as the new alpha. Six months later, the CEO position in Wilson Builders Inc was given to her. It was not common in werewolf packs to have a female alpha but it does not mean that there is none. The Moon Howlers pack sticks to the rule that the first borne should inherit the alpha title regardless of gender. Alpha Brandon might be a very strict alpha and a parent but he was very supportive. He wanted the best for his children and the pack. He imposed discipline on every member of the pack. In this regard, it was easy for Alpha Brandon to accept Braille when she told the family that she was gay. However, he did not go easy on her when he started to teach her the ways of the pack and the management of the Wilson Builder Inc. She started from being his secretary to an advisor before she finally becomes his successor. “Alpha, your 2 o’clock is here.” That was Carl Davis, her secretary c*m personal bodyguard. He was training as a sentinel before he was assigned to Braille years ago. They were of the same age and they went to the same school in college. Since he was her bodyguard back then as an alpha’s daughter, her father decided to enroll him in her school with the same degree and exact same schedule so that humans will not notice that he was following her. “Thank you, Carl. Send him in.” He bowed a little before leaving her. A couple of minutes later, her meeting with another client started. It was late in the evening when Braille decided to go home. Carl went home a couple of hours ago. It was a battle of debate before he agreed to leave her. That was only when she used the name of his mate, Annika before he was persuaded to finally leave her alone. A mate. That was one thing that Braille was not blessed with. As a werewolf, anyone has a destined mate given by the goddess Selene, the mother of all werewolves. A mate is a person that a werewolf will love for a lifetime. It was the person that will be your world. The person that a werewolf would consider his or hers alone. Destined only for you. Once a werewolf reached the age of 17, he or she can already recognize his or her mate. Braille met hers when she was 19 years old. It was summer. It was the time that she has to go home for a break from university. Quinn was a part of the pack. The girl was a couple of years younger than Braille. They immediately recognized they were mates the first time they met. No one questions the will of the goddess despite being the same-s*x. It was a blessed summer for them both. They spent the days together until the start of the semester. They agreed to communicate regularly since they have to deal with separation. Braille has to leave for university and Quinn is in her last year in senior high school. However, the previously great summer went to a devastating summer the next time they meet again. Quinn was diagnosed with a rare disease. The great pack doctors cannot identify the cause of Quinn’s illness. From a healthy girl, she became very skinny. Breathing alone needs to be given a great effort. It was a challenge for the doctors since werewolves are naturally healthy and fit. They are not affected by common diseases. However, this disease ate the wellness of the soon-to-be alpha’s mate. A couple of months later, Quinn’s heart gave up. Braille was inconsolable, but her family never gave up on her. She turned to them for support and focused her attention on her studies and pack responsibilities.  “Are we going home now, Alpha?” That was what stopped Braille from memory lane. It was Damian. Damian is a widow. He was one of the sentinels of the pack. He was part of the Alpha’s top warriors during the reign of Alpha Brandon, her father. He was assigned to Braille from the day she claimed the position as an alpha. He served as a driver bodyguard. His mate died, too, due to complications when his daughter was born. His daughter, Eva, was his world now. They both knew how hard it was to lose a mate but he has his daughter to live for. And, Eve is a piece of work when she was a toddler. The girl is eleven now and a little tamer. Last she heard, the girl was the top one in her class. That made Damian very proud. That was also the reason why she asked her driver to make Eve her scholar. Her very first scholar, actually. She made a program in Wilson Builders Inc to choose two scholars per year. That started a year after she sits as a CEO. However, Eve was not included in the company program for scholars. Eve was her personal project. That was because Damian was a great father and a great member of the pack. “Can we drop by to the bakeshop?” “To your favorite bakeshop?” She nodded. Damian started driving. The journey was smooth since most of the people were already at their destinations at this hour. “I’ll be back in a few minutes, Damian.” She said before she alighted from the car. The smell of newly bakes bread assault her nostril the moment she exited the car. That smell grew stronger when she opened the glass door. “Good evening, Miss Braille. What can I get you?” “The usual, please.” The crew smiled as she picked a box of cookies with chocolate chips on it. “Please add two boxes of blueberry cupcakes.” She went to the cashiers. She smiled at the girl manning the cashiers. She bowed a little as a sign of respect since the said girl was part of her pack. “This will be all, Alpha?” The last word was said a little low. “Yes.” She gave a few bills. “Keep the change, Marie.” With a smile, she walked away. She went out of the bakeshop. She looked around for the car since it was not out front where she left it. She was still looking around when she felt a hot liquid in her front before a body collided with her. “I’m sorry.” They both uttered. Braille stood still when her eyes saw the person that ran into her. The petite girl was frantically wiping her front with tissue paper. “Please don’t be mad. I knew I’m not looking. It was really a bad habit of mine. Oh, god! Your dress shirt is ruin.” The other woman said anxiously. She chuckled. The girl raised her head. She finally stopped wiping her front. “I’m sorry.” The shorter woman said again. “It’s okay. Hot coffee won’t kill me.” “Give me your address and I will buy you a new shirt.” “Is that a pick-up line?” The woman frowned. “They used that line?” Braille shrugged. “Well, it’s quite expensive if they used that just to see you again.” “Indeed.” “I’m really sorry.” “Say that again and I will kiss you.” Braille stated with a wide smile. The petite girl’s lips parted a little. “Hmm, I’m not into girls.” She retorted immediately. “Too bad.” “How can I pay for your ruined shirt?” She gazed at her before a thought came to her mind. She took a business card from her wallet and give it to her. “Come to my office.” “Alright. I’m really sor----” The petite girl stopped when Braille stared at her grinning. “I’ll see you then.” The woman nodded. “I didn’t get your name.” “It’s Natasha.” “Nice to meet you, Natasha.” She bid her goodbye. She did not glance back or else she will not be leaving without her.
