Chapter 10 Mattis raises his head once his mother is gone. Our eyes meet, his blue gaze so warm and fond, I can feel it in the pit of my stomach. I wind my arms around his waist, and he leans his forehead against mine. My mind is still blissfully quiet, and I just bask in his presence and his touch. I let his scent—like the air after a heavy rain—surround me. “I want to kiss you, Hannes. May I kiss you?” My gaze zeroes in on his mouth, his lips wet and shiny and inviting. “Yes.” I close my eyes. His nose nudges mine as his fingers find their way to my hair, where he pulls the tie out of my bun, making my hair cascade around my shoulders. He buries his fingers in my hair and his breath puffs against my mouth. I draw a stuttering breath. My heart skips a beat in anticipation and my bel
