Silence filled the hall.
Eyes were widened. Jaws, dropped in shock.
He had dropped a bomb in form of words.
His Mate? How?
Raina stared shockingly at him. Was this some sort of joke? A distraction maybe?
"What do you mean?" Lycus spoke first, breaking the silence. His voice had a tinge of confusion to it as well as his face, ruining his unbothered expression.
"What do you think it means?" Lucas asked him directly.
Lycus observed his expression. He didn't look like someone that was joking.
"How can you just say that she is your mate out of the blue? On your first meeting even... unless you've met before." One of the elders spoke, sounding astonished.
"Yes, we've met before - accidentally. Then I found out through the signs I felt." They were feelings he hadn't felt before. Something that was uniquely connected to only her.
As they spoke, Raina was just speechless.
What did he just do? Did he just admit that she was his mate to the whole Council?
She wasn't wrong? He felt it too?
She could feel eyes on her. Many set of eyes. Some elders, warriors and especially Marlyn and Carl but she said nothing and did nothing than just stand there and look at him standing across her.
The elders all went quiet and began slowly nodding as the news began to sink deep into them.
Their Alpha now had a mate and she'd automatically become their Luna.
>>>>>
The meeting ended soon after and Raina went up to Marlyn and Carl, hugging them with a deep sign, "I'm so happy you guys are fine." She was almost teary.
Even with what they had done to her, seeing them in that cell was depressing for her.
They looked at her with disbelief in their eyes. She had grown so big overnight.
The fact that she had defended them so well was heartwarming but then out of nowhere the Alpha had surprised them with the news of her being his mate. They were overly shocked.
Marlyn was at the verge of tears. She thought she had failed in protecting her sister's child but it turned out her parents' spirits were guiding her already.
She just had to be the Alpha's mate. His Luna.
She was filled with joy as tears streaked down her cheeks as they continued holding each other.
Carl just held them both in silence.
They let go after a while.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Marlyn spoke first, wiping off her tears.
"I did."
"You didn't tell us it was the Alpha!" She whined like a tired mother.
"You guys sounded like you weren't interested in knowing who it was and I wasn't so sure anyways."
"Oh Raina, you must have been shocked and confused about how you were feeling. I should have told you what it felt like. I had no idea it'd be so soon." Carl stroked her hair as he spoke with guilt in his eyes.
Raina smiled at them, "It's fine. It's all in the past now. Let's just focus on our future."
They both looked so proud of her.
"Let's go home." Marlyn gently took her hand as they were about to leave the hall but was stopped by Klaus.
"You can leave but she can't. She belongs to the Alpha now." His expression was poised.
They paused for a moment before turning to her. They hugged her one last time saying silent goodbyes with their eyes before they finally left her alone standing there with Klaus and hoping this would be a safer haven for her.
******
She was brought back to Lucas' quarters.
Back to his study again. She had thought.
But she was wrong.
Klaus took her to a room where a woman who looked a little bit old was standing by the door waiting.
She gave a bow to Klaus as he walked away with nothing but a short nod. Not even a single word to the woman or Raina.
The woman rose her head after Klaus had disappeared. She broke into a smile that reminded her of her mother. It was reassuring.
"Don't worry. You'll be fine." Were her first words. They sounded so serene to her ears.
Raina stared at her. At her face. She'd been doing that lately. Maybe because she wasn't used to seeing faces up close and observing the details or she was just taking notes of every facial feature for whatever reason.
This woman had a beautiful face even though it was telling she was growing old by her slight wrinkles and grey hair.
Her eyes were black but had a glossy look to it. Her lashes curved ever so beautiful matching her round face.
Her dark hair that had touches of grey was packed in a bun.
She kept a smile on as Raina observed her. She was waiting.
"Sorry." Raina dropped her eyes immediately. She had been staring for too long.
"No no, it's fine." She smiled again. Everything about her felt safe somehow.
"My name is Kaila. And I was assigned to help you freshen up." She introduced herself and stated her purpose.
Raina had a look of confusion for a moment, "I can freshen up by myself, thank you." She refused her help.
"The Alpha's orders, my lady." Kaila gave a small bow in apology.
My lady? That sounded very strange to her hearing.
She wanted to speak but paused. Nothing she would say would actually stop her from carrying out the orders she was given. It was the Alpha's after all.
She lets her into the room. It was spacious. Far more spacious than hers at the cabin.
It was scarcely furnished. Just a queen-sized bed with pure white sheets neatly spread on it and white pillows sitting idle.
A closet was by the corner, a mirror on the wall close to another door.
The mirror had a wide table and a stool beneath it.
Kaila walked up to the window and opened it, revealing a red sky. The sun was setting. It was done for the day.
She came back and nodded at the other door. It must be the bathroom.
They went in and it was white. All white. It was beginning to give her this feeling of safety. The room was also white-themed.
Kaila tried to help take off her clothes but Raina refused adamantly, taking them off herself before slowly getting into the bathtub Kaila had filled up with warm water.
She went to work immediately. Soon, lather had formed and covered the surface of the water hiding Raina's unclad body underneath it.
Eventually, Raina's tensed up nerves had calmed down. She was breathing slowly and steadily. There had to be something Kaila had done to the water. She remembered her mother once telling her about herbal oils and medications that could calm a tensed person when she was a child. Kaila must have added them.
She was surprised this woman wasn't even asking her questions. Not like she would answer any if she asked - she had questions to ask too.
Soon, they were done and Kaila brought her a white satin dress.
Raina stared quizzically at the dress and then at Kaila.
"Why?" Was her only question.
Kaila gave a knowing smile, "There'll be a full moon tonight."
So?
Oh!
Oh no!
They were supposed to mate!
Her breathing began to take up pace at the thought. Her wolf quietly growling inside as well. She'd be happy ofcourse!
She looked at Kaila again, "Must we..." Why couldn't she say it? Mate!
"Mate?" Kaila said it for her with a wider smile.
She nodded anyways, "Must we do it today?"
"Depends on the two of you. But it isn't easy to resist. Especially the Alpha and for the Alpha."
Confusion was all over her face.
"Especially the Alpha and for the Alpha?" Raina repeated, sounding as confused as her face looked.
Kaila nodded.
"It is hard to resist the Alpha on a full moon when alone with him for most female wolves even though he isn't their mate. He avoids every female on every full moon. And it would be hard for him to resist you being his mate on a full moon. He'd want you but try to be in control but if his wolf says something otherwise, I'm afraid..."
Raina's chest rumbled at Kaila's last sentence. It was supposed to sound scary but it sounded exciting instead.
She ignored it though.
"Must I see him? I believe he wants to see me."
"Yes, he does and I'm afraid I can't disobey his orders. He ordered I bring you to him." She informed her with pleading eyes.
Raina nodded as she understood the situation.
She followed Kaila out of the room wearing the dress. It was quite a revealing dress, exposing the backside, cleavage and was of short length.
Ofcourse that would be enough temptation for his wolf to jump out on first glance. Or not. She wasn't really confident in her body. She thought quite less of herself. But the dress was a beauty on its own. Shining in the dark.
She begged Kaila to help her with a shawl or anything she could use to cover up atleast, making Kaila break into another smile.
It was like a mother preparing her daughter for her wedding night.
She gave her a transparent looking robe. It was white in color as well.
Raina began to wonder if there was any other color aside from white in that room.
They arrived at another door at the end of the hallway. Kaila knocked twice and didn't even wait to hear a reply, she turned to her and told her to go in.
Just like that?
Kaila nodded at her like she heard her thought. She gave a bow before walking away leaving her standing there alone.
She took deep breaths before opening the door slowly.
The room's color theme was very different from the one she was in earlier. It was darker. Grey, to be exact.
The king sized bed was covered with white sheets and grey duvet. That was pretty much the only white thing in the room. The rest had a dark color. The walls. The furniture. Everything, if she wasn't exaggerating.
It was a wide room even.
She went to the window and opened it. Night had fallen and it looked like it had been so for a while now.
Kaila was also right. There was going to be a full moon tonight. The moon was out but it wasn't full yet. Just a little bit more-
The sound of a closing door interrupted her thoughts as she turned around to see where it came from.
Her eyes widened and her lips lost their hold as they slightly separated at the view in front of her.
She breathed through her lips as her nostrils seemed to have stopped working.
Lucas came out of the bathroom with water dripping from his hair down to his already wet body. He was wearing only black joggers that sat below his waistline, revealing that line that goes into his-
Raina swallowed hard. Her chest seemed blocked for some reason. Maybe the reason was right in front of her.
He hadn't noticed her yet. Not for long anyways. She wished she could just disappear from the spot.
He was drying his hair with a small towel while walking forward, making his hair even messier than normal.
Then he paused. He must have sensed her. His actions said so.
He slowly rose his head and their eyes met. She could swear she saw them sparkle. Or maybe it was just the little lightening of the room that just made them seem like that.
She could see his eyes widen too. His lips separated, like hers did.
Was he also?
Her wolf was growling in need. She was literally begging, on the verge of breaking out. He wasn't even doing anything. Was she even going to last truly?
Then suddenly, Lucas made a move. He was coming towards her. His pace was fast.
What was he going to do?-
