She couldn't stop staring at those mesmerizing eyes that stared back at hers.
Her heart was in her mouth as she was loss for words.
How was the Alpha that she had always admired from afar be standing right in front of her? Is this a dream?
His beautiful grey eyes shone like dark looking silver stones under the moonlight. His jawline, sharp like a blade, his eyebrows arched to perfection, strands of his dark messy hair falling on them. His eyelids, partly open as he slowly blinked at her.
Then her eyes dropped to his-
"What would a little one like you be out here searching for by this time of the night?"
She watched his lips move as he said those words, her eyes still refusing to look away.
"My eyes are up here, little on-"
"I am not a little one." She cut him off, closing her eyes to get whatever had gotten into her out of her.
He scoffed, "Not from what I see."
He stood up straight as he had to bend to be at the same eye level with her and truly, she felt like a little one looking up to a bigger one.
He was tall.
Looking at him from afar, he looked tall but now that he was inches away from her, she felt so small.
His broad shoulders were high and manly. The rest of his body hid under a plain black trouser and a light looking black shirt that caressed his body as the night breeze blew.
If he wasn't talking to her, she would have mistaken him for a shadow as he blended so well with the darkness but still looked dazzling under the moonlight at the same time.
"I asked a question, young lady." He pocketed his hands as he continued looking at her.
"Nothing." She replied, also looking up at him.
"Nothing?" He arched a brow.
"Yes. Nothing."
He slightly bent his head as he studied her with squinted eyes, "I've never seen this face before but you don't have the aura of a stranger as well. Who are you?"
She swallowed, "One of your subjects."
His brows rose in surprise, "You're a wolf? And one of my pack members even?"
She nodded, "Yes."
He bent to her eye level again, "Why haven't I seen this face before?"
'Because I've been hidden most of my life.' She said in her head but said something else.
"Do you know all the pack members facially?" She was questioning the Alpha. The Alpha Lucas!
She probably would be dead if this was happening in the day time.
"Not really but I would sense it."
Sense it?
"How?"
He blinked at her, "You never partook in the ritual." It was more of a statement but with a tinge of curiousity.
What ritual was he talking about?
He leaned back, taking a few steps backwards. His facial expression was rigid. Her face must have given the answer.
"Come to the council quarters tomorrow."
Council quarters? Isn't that the Elders' council.
"Why?" She was confused as to why she had to go that far.
"You need to tell me why you didn't take part in the ritual."
"What if I tell you I had no idea about the ritual?"
He paused. "Then it means you're not part of my pack."
Her heart broke for some reason. Maybe because he just said she wasn't part of his pack or the fact that she had not only been hidden but information have been hidden from her.
She just stayed quiet before dropping her head. She felt so tired. Everything and everybody was just against her.
Lucas just watched her. He was confused.
Was she lying? It looked like she was but it felt like she wasn't.
How would she be part of the pack and not hear of the ritual that every member must partake in so he as the leader would know his people.
They were all supposed to have a taste of his blood so his wolf would know who was from his pack and who wasn't in case a dire situation comes around.
So it's either she rejected it or she wasn't given at all.
He made sure to go around with them as they gave out the blood so everyone would partake of it so why was she saying this now?
She looked so innocent as she stared down at her feet, looking like she was tired of everything.
He sighed softly, "I've given a command. I must see you tomorrow."
She rose her head again and something jumped inside him as her hazel eyes came into view again.
She was undoubtedly beautiful with gentle facial features, one can be scared she could get hurt with the wrong touch.
She blinked at him and his insides turned. What was wrong with him?
His face was all scrunched up now.
He just said nothing and backed away before turning into his wolf and running into the forest and back to his quarters.
She watched him back away more and suddenly turned into his wolf before running into the forest.
His wolf was the same colour as his eyes. Grey.
She had so many questions. What was the ritual about? Did her aunt and uncle know about it?
Were they hiding things from her now like they were hiding her from the world?
Her head began to ache as she started feeling dizzy. She bent and held her head in her hands.
She stayed in that position for a while before she stood up and went back home.
~•~•~
She opened her eyes to the blinding rays of the sunlight hitting them. She softly sighed but immediately rose up after remembering she had an 'appointment' with the Alpha and hopefully not the Elders in the Council quarters.
She hurriedly did her morning routine and got dressed. She put on a black top and denim jeans. She didn't have time to pack up her hair so she just let it down.
She rushed downstairs, her uncle was helping her aunt set the dining table for breakfast.
They both paused as they watched her rush down the stairs like she was in a hurry to head somewhere.
She looked like she was dressed to go out. Now they wanted to know what was going on.
She paused when she noticed they were speechlessly staring at her.
Oh, she forgot them for a moment. Should she tell them or she should just sneak out?
She needed answers to some questions too so she walked over to them.
"Good morning." She greeted them.
"How are you love?" Marlyn quickly asked, happy she decided to talk to them that morning.
"I'm fine." She replied quietly. "I want to ask you some questions." She went straight to the point.
Marlyn's face fell at her niece's words. The greeting was all because she wanted answers.
"Are you going somewhere?" Carl asked first.
"I don't know. It depends on the reply you both give me."
"What is it, Raina?" Marlyn asked quietly.
"Are you guys hiding anything from me?"
They both stayed quiet as they stared at her.
"Are you?" She repeated.
"Raina. Why this question all of a sudden?" Marlyn asked.
"Just because."
"Just because?"
"Am I a bonafide member of this pack." Raina asked another question since they refused to answer the first one.
They were both startled by her question, "What do you mean by that? Of course you are."
Raina raised a brow, "Are you sure?"
"What is the meaning of all this, Raina?" Carl asked, his tone was a bit high as he was slowly getting angry.
She looked at him, "Did you also taste the Alpha's blood?"
His face fell.
She looked at her aunt who was looking very shocked, "Did you taste also? Am I the only stranger in this pack?"
"Raina..." Marlyn whined her name, "Who told you about this?"
"So, it was true." Raina nodded slowly.
"Rai-"
"I'm being summoned to appear before the Elders' council." She dropped the bombshell.
"What?!" They both asked at the same time, "How? And why?"
There was no way she was going to tell them that she snuck out the night before and met the Alpha.
"I don't know." She told them.
"What do you mean you don't know? Who told you about the Alpha's blood?"
"They must have noticed a stranger who was always roaming around their territory and wanted to know who the stranger was." She slowly explained.
"You're no stranger, Raina." Carl spoke up after a while.
"That's what you both think."
Now, both husband and wife were tired and frustrated. But suddenly, Marlyn's face became serious, "You can't go though."
Raina stared at her, "Even if it's the Alpha's command?"
"I'm trying to protect you, Raina!"
"From what?!"
There was silence as she stared at the both of them, "I thought as much."
She ran back to her room and shut the door.
She paced around the room.
Why? Why was her life like that?
She contemplated sneaking out again but this time she was feeling skeptical to go.
The truth is, she was scared.
She didn't want to stand in the presence of the council and receive questions she had no answers to. And especially when the Alpha would be there, looking at her. Oh never!
The one question she couldn't answer the night before just because she had no idea about what he was talking about.
She sighed heavily.
If she didn't go, would he come find her?
There was a big possibility of that happening and as much as she felt wronged by her aunt and her husband, she didn't want them to be in any danger of any sort.
Oh, this was tougher than she thought.

She decided to sneak out. She went back to where she had met Blake. She needed answers and maybe this Blake girl could give them to her.
She stood in the same spot as the last time she was here, hoping she would sneak up on her again.
Raina wasn't just ready to walk in the midst of these people in search of someone.
They all look like they knew each other so if she asked one, they might direct her straight to her but she didn't want them to wonder who she was - as they had never seen her face before - and why she was looking for Blake.
They might tag her as a spy or an assassin and call for the warriors who would take her to the Council and the... Alpha.
Yeah, that's not going to happen yet.
They had every right to call her a spy or a stranger who wasn't part of them if truly every other member had taken the blood of the Alpha for recognition and she hadn't.
She searched for her with her eyes but couldn't spot her so she left and went somewhere else.
As she walked through the woods, the surroundings began to look somewhat familiar. She got to a spot and remembered. It was the place her father was killed.
Her grandfather brought her here so she would know the place and spot her father took his last breath.
This was the only place her grandfather took her to without her begging him to.
She bent and touched the ground, her eyes becoming teary.
She was about get comfortable by sitting on the floor so she could cry but she heard a voice that made her pause.
"I had a feeling I'd find you here."
Find her here? How did he know this pla-
Her head went up at a thought as she quickly looked around. It looked like... wait!
"You have a habit of keeping quiet on me little one."
She stood up and turned to him.
He was looking glorious as always. Even more as he stood across her in a grey coloured shirt and a black trouser with many pockets.
His hair was messy as always but it still made him look hotter.
Then it clicked. This was where they met the night before. On the land her father took his last breath.
