TOXIC ATTRACTION EPISODE TWELVE

After Diana's words, everything went silent... Richard was breathing so loud I could hear it from where I was standing. He looked at me with his eyes so red and Diana, she was now enjoying the show after planting a seed of doubt in Richard...

Richard turned his wheelchair towards me and silently looked at me as if he was waiting for some sort of information or to defend myself against what Diana was saying.

Me: you can't be looking at me like that. I have no idea what this little girl is talking about. I have not seen or talked to Mark since I left here.

Diana: it's when you were still here that I'm talking about my darling. Mark and you, in the bathroom, taking a shower and along the corridors, kissing and hugging when my brother was still sleeping. C'mon Richard I know you can't walk but you are not stupid.

Richard: is that why he was upset when you decided to leave?..

Me: I can't believe you are asking me that and I can't believe I came back here to put up with this crap. You know what, you can believe your sister and marry her too!..

I went to the bedroom and grabbed my bag then drag the suitcase out again. I was mad, not by everything Diana said but because Richard never defended me.. he stood there and watched his little sister disrespect me, and to me, that was enough to send me packing. Richard's family had this sense of entitlement and it pissed me off that they thought they owned me. Where was I going to go now that I had left the one place u thought I could stay at least until the baby was born?

The taxi picked me up at around 8:30 pm and I told the driver to take me to Makuti estate. That's where I lived with my parents before the misfortune befell me. I was worried and my heart beat fast because I did not know what to expect after everything that had happened with my father. While in the car my phone beeped and it was Mark. He said he needed to see me and we had to talk about whatever had happened at Richard's. He also told me Richard had called him when I left and he asked if by any chance I was headed to his place.

Driver: Madam, we are at Makuti, which house are you going to?..

Me: house number 15.

I said looking around before tucking my phone's in the bag and reaching for some money. I paid the taxi man and he helped me with my suitcase. I stood by the gate for a few minutes debating whether or not I had made the right decision but I convinced myself that home was home and it couldn't have been that bad.

I took a deep breath then knocked and waited patiently for whoever was coming to open. I was nervous and it was evident when I kept rubbing my hands together and my heart, my heart was beating so fast one would think I was on death row.

A few minutes on, the gate was opened after my mother asked who it was and I told her it was me. She quickly opened the gate and without questions pulled me into her arms and hugged me. The hug was quite long and uncomfortable as she had hugged my arms down.

Cleopatra: you have no idea how happy I am to see you...

I didn't say anything because I still had not forgotten that she did not defend me and just sat there while my father made decisions that hurt me and destroyed my life.

Cleopatra: come inside my baby. We can talk from inside.

She dragged my suitcase inside and I followed her half sure if that's really what I wanted to do.

ELSEWHERE

Diana after making sure Robina left, she did not stay at Richard's as she had planned to. She told Richard that she had just gotten a text about a job that she needed to report to early enough. She went to the bedroom, dragged her suitcase, and stood in the living room with her arms crossed to her chest staring at Richard as if she needed his go-ahead.

Richard: what, haven't you done enough damage for the night?..

Diana: you will thank me later for this night. Let that b***h go. You deserve better.

Richard: what do you have against her?..

Diana: nothing. Mum thinks I should emulate her, I don't think she has anything worth emulating. The only positive thing about her is that she doesn't seem money minded because you don't even have the money. You wait until she meets some rich men out there, she would definitely leave you. I just did you a favor.

Richard: do you ever think of me as a person who deserves some respect if not as your big brother then as a human being?

Diana: I need money for my taxi.

She said totally ignoring him.

Richard: I'm not your boyfriend or your father. Don't think you will run the show in my own damn house.

He picked up his phone from the table and made a call to Tosh asking him to come to get him.

Diana: where are you going?..

Richard: out!.. to hang out with my fellow cripples.

Diana: I didn't mean it like that Richy, you are my brother and I love you just the way you are.

Richard: you have a pathetic way of showing it. You and mum should stay out of my life. Don't try to fix me because I'm beyond that point.

Diana: okay.. some money, please?..

Richard: didn't you hear me the first time, I'm not giving you any money. You've got legs, don't you?

Diana: meaning what?..

Richard: get out!..

I walked into the house and came face to face with my father. My mother was already waving the white flag even before he could start speaking because she knew he was a lion who would not hesitate to jump on me. From the look on his face, he was angry about something but was trying to remain calm the entire time my mother was pleading on my behalf.

He got up from his seat with his eyes fixed on me and without a word he left for their room. I was now more afraid of the things he didn't say more than what he would have said. My father was very unpredictable, he would have gone inside and come back with a rifle to shoot both me and my mum died.

Me: he hates me.

Cleopatra: don't say that. You are still our daughter and not every marriage is guaranteed to work. When things go south, you should know that you are welcome here.

She led me to a seat and I sat. I didn't want to get too comfortable because I didn't know what to expect of my father.

Cleopatra: you never picked up my calls.

Me: and tell you what?.

Cleopatra: you know you can not hold this on me for the rest of your life?..

Me: I decide when my anger towards you ends. Do you remember what you told me on the day I was getting married to Richard, should I quote the very words that came out of your mouth?..

She sat there looking at me with tears lingering in her eyes. The truth is I was not sorry for feeling the way I felt towards them. I had been in a hell of relationships before but they had no right to do what they did.

My mother warmed some food and served me but my appetite was not there. I tried to eat but the food was not going down.

Cleopatra: you should try and put something in your stomach now that you are eating for two.

That surprised me, had they been talking to Richard or his mum because how else would they have known I was pregnant and what if they learned of my plans to terminate the pregnancy?

Cleopatra: Richard's mother called. She was mad because you left.

I did not engage her and my not talking to her was driving her insane.

Me: I need to get some rest. It's been a long day.

Cleopatra: sure. Your room and everything is still intact.

I got up and said thanks to her for the food and for allowing me in then I left for my room and locked myself inside.

Tosh got to Richard's place at around 10:00 pm. He was already too excited for the evening because he knew Richard would be too busy to need him that night but when Richard called regardless of what he was doing, he would drop everything and show up. He opened the door to Richards's house and he was already dressed up and ready to go...

Tosh: what happened to the dinner?

Richard: Diana happened. She said some stuff that made Robina leave.

Tosh: and you did nothing about it?..

Richard: she has to stay of her own free will. She has to learn how to defend herself against people like Diana and my mother because I'm not always going to be there to deal with her s**t for her.

Tosh: where are we going?..

Richard: to work. I need to get a few things in order. I also need you to get someone to clean my house in Muthaiga. I could be spending a few days there.

Tosh pushed him out of his wheelchair and when they got to the car Richard got in and Tosh put the wheelchair in the back seat then got to the driver's seat and drove off...

"I miss you. We should meet and talk things out babe"

A text came through my phone and it was Davis. Davis was just as unpredictable as my father was. Why was he missing me yet I thought we were done. What part of I was now married didn't he understand?..

I ignored him and a few of his texts were followed by a call that I decided to pick after I realized he was not going to stop.

Davis: babe listen to me... I know you don't want to ever see me again but give me one last chance to prove to you that I love you and I will do anything to be with you again.

I ended the call and silenced my phone for the night...

Richard asked Tosh to make a stop in a place that looked like a garage and when he did, Richard pulled out a gun from his glove compartment and got out of the car walking perfectly fine. Tosh was taken aback by the fact that he could actually walk but had been pretending the entire time. He stared at his mouth wide open and what scared him most was the fact that he had a gun and they were stopping in the middle of nowhere.

Tosh: wait, you can walk... Do you mean you can walk with all these carrying you around I have been doing?

Richard: follow me. I've got business to attend to.

Tosh jumped out of the driver's seat and followed him. When Richard got into the car, Tosh had given him support and so he did not take it as a big deal as he had not noticed anything strange. Tosh knew Richard was rich but he never disclosed the source of his riches until that very night...

Richard and Tosh got into the garage and there were two other men with guns standing beside someone else who was kneeling with his mouth tied with a bandana.

"Boss, we caught him at the border trying to escape."

One of the guys said and Richard got down and pulled the bandana from his mouth...

The man started shouting and asking Richard to let him go. Tosh was scared out of his mind because he had not been in a situation like the one he was in that particular moment. He had no idea who the man that was standing before him was. It certainly wasn't the Richard that he knew.

Tosh: Richy what's going on?

Richard ignored him still focusing on the guy.

Richard: you have two seconds to start talking. Who are you working for?

He asked attaching a silencer to his gun...
