Bella's POV I never once imagined that I would get to see Zachary's face again. The shock and overwhelming happiness rush through me as my best friend stands before me. "Zachary!" I exclaim, my voice filled with a mixture of joy and sadness. He walks closer, his face reflecting the same shock and tears welling up in his eyes. For a moment, he is speechless, unable to find his words. "Bella, it's really you," he finally manages to say, pulling me into a tight hug. I embrace him just as tightly, feeling the warmth of his presence. "Where have you been all this while? I went crazy looking all over for you," he says, his voice trembling with a teary undertone. "I am also glad to see you again," I reply as we break the hug. "I'm really glad to see you too," I add, my voice choked with tears. "What happened? Why did you leave without telling me anything?" he asks, his worry evident. "It's a long story, and I promise to tell you everything that happened," I assure him, trying to calm the rush of questions. "Hmm... I'm sorry to interrupt your reunion, but we don't have all day," the police officer, Jason, intervenes. "Give us a little time, Jason. This is my best friend that I told you about," Zachary says, flashing a bright smile. I realize that Jason is someone Zachary knows, perhaps from Baekon City. "How do you know him?" I ask curiously, a hint of confusion in my voice. "I mean, Baekon City is pretty far from here for you to know anyone over here." "He's also from Baekon City, but his parents got a divorce, and he had to leave the city with his mom," Zachary explains. "I'm really glad that I get to see you again," he adds, unable to contain his excitement. "Seeing that you're friends with Zachary, maybe it will be easier for you to trust me now," the police officer interjects. "Trust you? What's going on, Jason?" Zachary questions, his expression a mix of shock and concern. Suddenly, Liam comes running in, interrupting our conversation. "Mom! Mom! Can we go home now? I don't want to stay here anymore," Liam sounds terrified and exhausted. "Mom!" Zachary exclaims, his eyes widening in shock. "Is this your child?" he asks, his voice filled with curiosity and confusion. I remain silent, unsure of how to respond. We've only just reunited after so many years, and so much has happened in that time, including the fact that I now have a child. "Don't be quiet, Bella. Answer me," Zachary says calmly but firmly. "Yes, this is my child," I finally answer, my worry growing as I anticipate his reaction. As expected, he stands there in shock, struggling to find his words for a few minutes. "Who is the father of the child?" he asks, his facial expression revealing that he already knows the answer but is hoping for a different response. "Mom, who is he?" Liam chimes in, saving me from answering Zachary's question. "My love, this is Zachary, your uncle," I reply with a smile. “This is Liam, My son” I added "You're my uncle?" Liam asks, his eyes wide with curiosity. "Yes, I am your uncle," Zachary confirms, returning the smile. "Mom, I like him already," Liam says, his smile brightening. "Can we get out of here, Mom? I want to have a fun time with my new uncle," he says excitedly. "We'll definitely have a fun time, Liam," Zachary responds, his voice filled with genuine warmth. "But first, we need to make sure Mom is safe." As the conversation shifts, another man approaches us, holding a sketch in his hand. He turns out to be the person Liam went with earlier. "I've got the picture of the man, but it seems different from the ordinary," the man states, capturing our attention. My heart tightens, knowing exactly what the picture is, and from the reaction of the police officer, it confirms my fears. The officer takes a closer look at the sketch and expresses his confusion, "This doesn't seem to be a picture of a person. Rather, it resembles some kind of animal." Panic rises within me as I realize Liam has described Derek in his true form. I desperately hope they won't discover the truth, but it seems fate has a different plan. "Is this some kind of joke?" the police officer mutters, clearly bewildered. Zachary approaches to see the sketch, and his eyes widen in shock. He looks at me, and I can see the fear mirrored in his gaze. I step closer to them, and as I glimpse the drawing of Derek in his true form, fear grips me. Liam's description was accurate, and now they have the exact details. "My son has a wild imagination about a lot of things, so it must be one of his creations," I say, attempting to dismiss the situation with an awkward smile. They all stare at me, their expressions filled with disbelief. "This has to be a joke; this isn't human," the police officer agrees, aligning with my attempt to downplay the situation. "It's not a joke," Zachary interrupts, his voice determined. My heart races faster at his words. What is he trying to do? Is he about to expose Derek's true nature? "Children often say exactly what they've seen, or at least what they see in movies," he continues, shifting the focus away from Liam's accurate description. Relief washes over me as he finishes his sentence. "You should be careful about what you let your child see. He's still very young," the police officer scolds me, concern laced in his voice. "I really saw it. It is real," Liam insists, his voice sincere. "That's enough now, my child," I say, forcing an awkward smile. "I will definitely be more careful from now on," I assure the police officer. "We still haven't gotten any leads about the man who did this to you," he informs me. "You don't need to worry. With my best friend here, I'm in safe hands," I reply, giving Zachary a grateful smile. However, his face remains cold and distant. "We'll be on the lookout for anything suspicious so that the man doesn't come back to harm you or your child," the officer promises before we finally leave the police station, after signing necessary papers. Outside, an uncomfortable silence settles between Zachary and me, and Liam has fallen asleep in my arms. "Are you angry with me?" I finally gather the courage to voice my question. "Why? Why did you do this? You know how wicked and cruel he is, and yet you allowed yourself to have a baby with him," Zachary erupts, his voice filled with anger and disappointment. "Let me explain. None of this was planned, and I..." "There's literally nothing you can say to justify this. Derek is the father of your child!" he interrupts, his anger unabated. "Why did he try to harm you and his child?" Confusion mixes with his anger. "He doesn't want anything to do with me or the baby. He hates me and wants me out of this world along with our child," I manage to say through my tears, my voice choked with emotion. "He's a monster." Zachary's expression shifts from anger to pain and pity as he takes in my words. "He is really a monster," he says, his voice filled with determination. "He will pay for everything he has done to you." A glimmer of hope flickers within me at Zachary's words. "There's nothing you can do, Zachary. He is stronger and more evil than you can ever imagine," I confess, my voice trembling with fear. "I am a werewolf hunter, Bella. There's nothing too much for me to handle," he declares, a reassuring smile gracing his face. I can't help but smile back, feeling a sliver of optimism in the face of darkness. "Your dad will be happy to see you again," he adds. "My dad?" I respond with confusion, my mind still reeling from the tumultuous even.
