Bella's POV
Confusion clouded Zachary's expression as he observed my surprised reaction to his mention of my father.
"Why do you seem surprised? Don't you want to see him?" he asked, genuinely puzzled.
"My dad is alive!" I exclaimed, unable to believe the news.
"Yes, he is alive, Bella. Why wouldn't he be?" Zachary replied, still confused.
Derek had lied to me. He hadn't harmed my father. I couldn't decide whether to feel happy or worried about this revelation. Why did Derek lie about it? None of it made any sense to me.
"Bella!" Zachary called out, snapping me out of my thoughts. I shook off my daze and responded, "It's nothing. I just wonder what my dad thinks of me," accompanied by a faint smile.
"Let's get you out of here. We need to take care of your bruises," Zachary suggested
