My heart pounded in my chest as Anita confronted me about the scent she detected. I knew deep down that she was right, but I couldn't bring myself to admit the truth. I wasn't ready to reveal my true nature to her or anyone else.
"You must be mistaken, Anita. The smell isn't coming from me," I said, attempting to maintain a calm facade while an awkward smile formed on my lips. She narrowed her eyes at me skeptically, clearly unconvinced.
