*Her*
Elise was annoyed. He was toying with her. She got up and brushed herself off and was about to give him a piece of her mind when he turned around and Saluted to her. "Well it's been fun, see you little lady." And he took off just like that. Elise pout d and crossed her arms. "Who is he calling little lady?"
She swung her arms and clenched her fists. "Grr!" She had shouted at his retreating figure.
She packed herself up to have another try at figuring out the cloud. She took a breath in and out. "It's all in the hips...so...it shouldn't be any different to riding a skateboard or a surfboard...right?" She questioned the air. She took a step onto the cloud and steadied herself. She leaned slightly forward and the cloud nudged itself forwards.
She squeeled in delight. "I did it! It moved!" She held her arms out to the sides for balance and it took of with a woosh. She closed her eyes as the gentle wind was blowing her hair in her face. She hadn't figured out how to stop yet and as she realises this a tree came into view. She covered her face as she collided with the tree and the cloud floated off.
She sighed. "I'll....just have to practice...." For now she took out her grimore and created a portal that would take her to her last target for the night.
As she completed her last assignment, she took out the parchment and signed it off. The parchment then curled itself up and flew off. Elise watched with fascination. She still wasn't used to things as they were, but by now she was exhausted and it was two am.
She conjured a portal home. As she stepped through, her mother was waiting with a lamp on in the living room. She turned at the sound of the open portal. "How was it sweetheart?" Elise came and gave her mother a hug. "It was...interesting....fun....and exhausting...Mum, I love you but I'm off to bed." Her mother chuckled and kissed her on her forehead. Sweet dreams."
Elise nodded and trudged up to her room. She waved her hand and closed the door with her magic before collapsing on her bed face down and passed out. She woke up to her alarm at seven am.
As she looked up drool dribbled down her chin and she wiped it with the back of her hand.
She groaned as she hauled herself off the bed to go to the bathroom, on her way she stubbed her big toe on the end of the bed.
She also fell forward and cried out in pain. After five minutes, she calmed down and stood back up again. She walked to her mirror and nearly screamed. Her make-up from the night before was all smudged and she looked horrific. She quickly grabbed a fresh face washer and ran warm water from the tap. She washed her face with cleanser, then applied toner and moisturiser. Now that that was done, she went to the toilet and then brushed her teeth. She dressed in the first thing she grabbed from her wardrobe, which was a white t shirt and floral skirt. As she was brushing her hair, she got a message from Melinda.
M: hey girl, I'll be there in 5 minutes to pick you.
E: I'll be ready.
Elise quickly put her hair into a plait, chucked on her sneakers and grabbed her backpack. On her way downstairs she checked that she had everything she needed for class. As she made it to the bottom step, her mother greeted her with a packed lunch.
"Thankyou mum, love you, bye." She quickly rambled on her way out, kissing her mother on the cheek before racing g outside. Melinda pulled up to the driveway in her black '96 Honda Accord.
Elise liked her car because it always smelled like pumpkin spice from a candle that Melinda kept on her dashboard. Melinda swears is the only way to get the smell from her magical job off of her at the end of each shift. Melinda also had Metallica blasting from her radio, but as soon as Elise jumped into the passenger seat, she turned it off and turned to her friend, filled with curiosity.
"So...."
Elise looked at her with puzzled look on her face. Melinda rolled her eyes at her. "You can be really dense sometimes...how was your job dummy!"
Elise shrugged. "Yeah...it was OK." She yawned from still being tired. Melinda started the car and was just about to turn her music up again when Elise said something that built Melinda's curiosity.
"I met a reaper. Yawn" Melinda squeeked. "What!? Omg, are you going to die now? Omg...can I have your TV?" Elise didn't know weather to laugh or be appalled by her friends reaction but shelaughed anyway thinking her friend was joking. "No I'm not going to die. He was only there to take the soul of one of the kids I'd put to sleep. He was an arse."
As Melinda drove, Elise could see that her friend was full of questions and it was going to be a long day. Elise put Melinda's music back on untill they go to university.
However, Melinda spoke over her music. "I'll make you spill girl, weather you like it or not..." Elise looked at her friend who had a sadistic grin on her face.
They got out of the car and made their way to the auditorium, where their lecture was to be held.
They sat down at the back, like they always did. Elise got out her tablet and her textbook. She also grabbed her notepad and and a pen. Their lecturer started the lesson when a one slid across Elises book. 'Tell me about Mr Arse. Is it true that they have a scythe and they are a skeleton under all that sexy black?' Elise rolled her eyes and glared at her grinning friend. Elise thought to herself. "Of course she would be into the weird and wonderful.
Elise quickly scribbled a 'Mr arse, actually has a name. Ayden. He did carry a scythe. He wasn't a skeleton and he was actually cute when he wasn't being annoying'
She shoved the paper back to her friend and tried to tune into her teacher. However Melinda was too curious for her own good. Melinda quietly sighed as another note slid across. 'Ayden huh? First name basis. Interesting. Describe him for me.'
Elise again glared at her friend who only laughed. Elise scribbled back. 'I don't want to talk about him. He was obnoxious.' She aggressively shoved the paper back at her friend and then got back to her lesson.
After an hour, the bell went and Elise began to pack up. Melinda pounced on her. "Hey. Let's grab a coffee before we go to the library." Elise shoved everything into her backpack and stood up. "Sure."
As they walked however Melinda started again. "So..." Elise looked sideways at her friend and sighed. "Fine. Ayden was tall, muscular, he had brown hair in a crew cut. And his eyes...." Elise looked up. Melinda was hanging on her every word. "His eyes would change from brown to a crimson colour." Melinda cooed. "Ohh...he sounds like my kinda guy...very dark and mysterious."
Elise waved her off. "You can have him." The afternoon wavered on, and Elise was happy when it came to home time.
Melinda drove them both to her house. Elise felt bad for giving her friend the cold shoulder all day.
"Wanna come study?" Melinda shrugged. "Sure. I won't be able to spend too long though cause my dad will be requiring me to discuss the transfer of new meat for 'B' block." She put her voice in the tone of her father, mimicking him, before she burst out laughing. Elise smiled, she would often see him, whenever she went to Melinda's. He was a big man, rough around the edges and often times gruff, but he has a soft spot for his daughter. It always made Melinda cringe when her father would ruffle her hair and show her affection but Elise would only giggle.
Elise patted her friend on the shoulder. "It's ok. I sure my mother has baked us some cookies. Let's go."
As she stepped out of the car, little did she know that from the shadows, a presence had been watching her with its red beady eyes. Growling at her for its master.
