Chapter 4 Party

1312 Words
The afternoon of the next day As soon as the class was over, Perry called and asked Ryan to meet downstairs in the dormitory. After everybody turned up, they walked to pick up the girls. On the way, Perry kept talking over the phone. It didn't take long for the four boys to come downstairs to the girls' dormitory. Just after Perry hung up the phone, four beautiful girls came out of the dormitory, walking towards them. The middle girl in a white dress attracted Ryan's attention. She was beautiful and graceful in manner, like a fairy walking out of the painting. Though she was simply dressed, she looked quite gentle and charming. After the eight young students exchanged greeting with each other politely, a cute round-faced senior girl turned to Ryan with a smile. "You’re the game boy, Melton, right? Your roommates mentioned you a lot. You look different from the couch potatoes. Huh, pretty sunny and handsome." "I used to be a computer nerd," Ryan said half-jokingly. "Well, you can talk about it later,” Perry interrupted them, “I’ve already telephoned for a reservation in a nice restaurant not far from the west gate. Let's go." The group of people talked and laughed as they walked into the restaurant. A waiter led them to a box on the second floor. When everyone was in their places, Perry began, "We’re from the same school, but not very familiar with each other. Why don't we introduce ourselves first?" "Great, start with me." The senior girl who had just taken the initiative to talk with Ryan echoed with a smile. "I’m Daisy, and it’s my junior year in Acting Department. My friends say I have an amiable distinction. I like listening to music, travel, and table delicacies. I’m still single." With that, she sweetly winked at Ryan. After she took the lead, everyone was freed from nervous restraint and began to introduce themselves. Ryan learned that the gentle girl in the white dress was Rosa Norris. The girl in the yellow shirt that Perry was chasing was Gloria Steele. And Jessica White was the name of another girl who had two short plaits and a flower tattoo on her arm. Girls from Acting Department were all elegant in manner and outstanding in appearance and figure. Rosa was the prettiest among the four girls. Rosa wore no makeup, but she was ravishing. She looked pure and youthful in the white dress, as simple and pretty as a film ingenue. After introducing herself in a low voice, she quietly sat next to Gloria with her head down. The blush on her pink face indicated her shyness. "You know? Rosa is called, and with reason, the most beautiful girl in our school," Perry smiled and said to other boys. Then he turned to Rosa gently, “It’s our honor to have dinner with you, Miss Norris.” Hearing this, Gloria threw a deliberately disdainful look at Perry and said, "All sweet words. Rosa stayed in the dorm all day, so I brought her out to take a fresh breath." "Oh, What a coincidence!” Perry winked at Ryan with a teasing smile on his face, “We also have a dorm boy." Everyone looked at Ryan. Frustrated and a little embarrassed, Ryan scratched his head with a shy smile. To break the awkward silence, Perry filled everyone's glasses on the table with wine. "Come on, let's drink a toast to our friendship!" “Cheers!” “Bottoms up!” The boys and girls emptied their glasses at one draught, except for Rosa, who only took a sip. She frowned and coughed softly, covering her mouth with her hand. It must be the first time she drank. "You okay?" Ryan handed her a tissue. Rosa blushed and whispered, "Thank you." "Hey, hey." The other three boys all looked at Ryan with a smirk, their eyes shifting back and forth between Ryan and Rosa. "Rosa, you must learn to drink. After graduation, we’ll inevitably deal with people on the table," Gloria said earnestly. Rosa gave a soft "hum" and bowed her head again without another word. Gloria shook her head with a helpless smile. She knew her roommate was timid and shy, so she took her out, hoping she could be open to communicate with others. But it seemed that our temperaments could not be changed easily. After a few rounds of drinking, the tension on the table finally slackened. Everyone talked with each other, and the young gentlemen and girls got on well together. They even chaffed Ryan about his relationship with Rosa. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. School life was always simple and free. There was no upward comparison, no scheme or pressure, and they were all carefree and lighthearted. Perhaps few people could maintain ignorance and simplicity and keep a free heart after leaving school, after one or two years of hard work. Ryan was rambling in thought as he took another drink. It was already half-past nine in the evening after dinner. At the entrance of the restaurant, they discussed where to go next. Rosa wanted to go back to school but stayed because of Gloria's persuasion. Finally, they decided to go to Green Apple Bar not far from the university town. The taxi stooped at the bar. Tomorrow was Saturday, so the bar was crowded in every part, loud and hectic, full of students out to get trashed.   There were no available boxes at this time of Friday night. Reluctantly, they had to choose a booth on the second floor and ordered some fruits and alcoholic drinks. It was Ryan’s first time here. Bars were places where people gathered to drink and enjoy themselves, but he found the music in the bar very obtrusive. Men were idling about in search of women who would spend a wonderful night with them, while women were dancing in tight clothes, waiting for men to buy them drinks. Ryan took a drag from the wine glass with a sigh. He would rather stay in a quiet place reading books or playing games. After three rounds of drinks, Perry stood up and said loudly to others, "Let's step out on the dance floor and shake a leg!" With that, he took Gloria away, followed by several others. Completely uninterested in dancing, Ryan stayed in the booth, playing with his mobile phone. He glanced around and found that only Rosa, who was sitting opposite, had not gone down. Presumably, she disliked the noisy dance hall as he did. Feeling Ryan’s eyes watching her, Rosa bit her mouth silently, her color rising. Sweet girl, Ryan smiled. Rosa, however, could not brook his curious gaze. She raised her head, with a slight embarrassment on her face, and asked loudly, "Why are you always looking at me?"  It was only a little louder than when she was at the dinner table. She could hardly make her voice heard in a noisy bar. "Is this your first time here?" Ryan leaned forward and asked curiously. Rosa relaxed a little and replied softly, "Well, I don't like noisy places. You’re new here, too?" "Yes, I used to play games most of the time, but I won't do that again." Ryan thought he had wasted too much time before, and wanted to make up for it. Then the two started to chat. They realized that they had a lot of hobbies in common, and the more they talked, the more relaxed Rosa became. After much talk, Ryan found that Rosa was not as unapproachable as she looked. She was a kind and nice girl. Though she had nothing to say to strangers, she was easy to get along with. Really a special girl.
