Let's have a conversation about Leon and Max. We all know there are some issues with these two. Both over Barrington's death and the decisions of their parents. After the training, I pulled Linzi aside to ask some questions. This is what I gained from our exchange.
"I want to know what you told your children about Barrington?" I sat on the grass as Linzi leaned against the tree in the shade.
"Barrington.." Her words held pain. I could feel it in her body wandering around. "My firstborn. So much power lay in him." She sighed, squeezing her eyes closed. She sat a minute quietly as she went through the memory. "Mortou called me just after. He made the decision. I found out when he called." She sat back up and looked at me. "I felt his death only a little. That tells me he was linked far more to Velito than we ever thought. I am happy he never told Velito where I was." Linzi paused again as if re-routing her words. "When Mortou told me of his attack and how they were killed I knew they tapped into dark magic. Having only barely felt his loss I knew he was already deep into the darkness." she stood suddenly, "Let us walk."
I stood myself walking next to her, we wandered into her private forest. She touched the trees and smiled. We said nothing for a long time. Coming to a small pond she sat back down. Motioning me to sit again. I did so.
"I told his brothers how he had attached to the dark side. But they only remembered the man he was before he met Liza." She glanced at me, then back to the pond. "They were angry, Maxwell took it the hardest as he and Barrington were only a few years apart. Very close in age and grew together." She placed her hand on mine. I stiffened and went to pull away. But she gripped tighter. She sent me pictures of two boys running amuck and enjoying life here in this private grove of trees. They bonded and grew to rough house with each other. Then Barrington left. Just as Maxwell was to leave Barrington came back to show his mate once. Maxwell caught wind of her stench and backed away from his brother's hurt.
Linzi let go of my hand. I looked up at her waiting. I knew she had more words to say. "Leon never met Barrington. By the time I found that pup and his parents dead, Barrington had distanced himself from the entire family." Glancing back at me with a soft smile. "Leon is Southern Wolf as you know the urge is strong to protect the family and hurt those who would hurt us are strong. I will have a chat with Maxwell and let him know he needs to speak with Leon regarding Barrington." She stood again.
I followed her up, "Thank you." I spoke with my words broken and the sound always harsh to my ears.
"You are welcome. I picked Leon because of two things." She placed her hand on mine. I saw pictures of his dead parents. One was most definitely a southern wolf, the other a rogue who was both pack and southern wolf. It has been hunters who had killed them. I saw Linzi had killed the hunters after asking why they chased the couple.
(Flash Back)
"The father did not want her spreading the line to randomly born wolves." The remaining hunter has gurgled under Linzi's hand.
"Who was this father that called for this?" She had growled at the man dangling in her hands.
"Lobos." He had grunted. Linzi crushed his next.
(Flash Back)
Glancing at her eyes, she knew I knew who it was. "You will have loyalty I assure you. But you must let Leon find out on his own." She let go of my hand and placed hers on the top of the water. "Every ripple has an effect, my boys grew up knowing love. They will chase that love when they know it can be found. Of that I am sure." I understood what she meant. We had done the very thing she mentioned when my first dad had come to kill my second dad Joe. I chose Joe because he loved us, he loved mom and he made mom happy. That was what mattered. Love was the strongest factor in a relationship. The power to sway people good or bad.
"Thank you," I croaked again. I hated my voice. Mind linking was so much easier.
"You are welcome." She smiled, she watched me closely for a bit as I looked around the place she had picked to finish her story.
"Why here?" I pushed the words out. Cringing with each syllable.
"I start training all my boys here. This place holds the love I give out. It allows them to work in a space that is warm and inviting while gentle." She grinned at me. I noticed it reached her eyes. "I find it odd that they gave you Tys, but now I understand. Your soul is pure. Your heart is too. It is your emotions that push the worry." She stepped closer. Placing a kiss on my cheek. "You need to worry less young man." She grinned.
She morphed into a wolf, a deep deep brown with her light eyes. "Run with me!" She yipped as she bent to lower herself in play.
I went behind a tree, letting Tys out. We picked up the clothes in our mouths and followed her as she darted through the trees. I ran, soon I was just enjoying it. Much like Jewel and I use to. Tys loved to play, it was me who paused it so often. I needed to let some walls down she was right. I also need to tell Athens and the rest of the guys we meet with, what Linzi told me today. Enjoy the little things is what Linzi seemed to be letting me know. At least I think so?
