DYLAN
"Two shots of Martini mixed with vodka please." Degar purred from behind me and I turned to see him looking all sweaty and trying to catch his breath. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me what he had been up to in the last couple of minutes. The animal.
I had asked him to set up a meeting with a business investor and since I couldn't do it myself, he took the liberty to choose a place close to this place so that he would have a reason to come here and drag me along with him. I had no intention of visiting the club tonight but Degar insisted that we come and hang out a bit since I was done for the day with the work we had both come here to do.
It took a lot of persuading and convincing on Degar's part to actually bring me to Strawberry island but I won't deny the fact that I needed a break. I was stressed but I would never admit to it. Teaching a classroom of college would was not as easy as I had imagined but I had no choice but to do it.
"And where have you been?"
He pointed to himself after drowning his order from the bartender. "I'm just making myself comfortable here. Who comes to a club and just sits the entire night out? You're a different type of breed my Lord If I must say."
"Right." I mused. Of course he was making himself comfortable between the legs of a woman. I thought to myself as I took another shot of whiskey in front of me before discarding the glass. That was my twentieth glass in less than an hour and yet, I don't feel drowsy neither do I feel dizzy. I wonder why humans make a fuss out of them anyways.
"Have you been able to make any progress with the human girl?" He asked out of the blue and I paused halfway through my next glass. Why would he ask me that now? I have been trying my absolute best to push the thoughts of her away from my head. I see her everyday, I watch her, I stalk her, I follow her to keep this burning heat inside me on a minimum but it only gets worse. She's like a broken record playing in my head, dancing in my thoughts.
That was the sole reason why I decided to become a professor in the first place, just so I could get closer to her without freaking her out. At least, until she figures out that I'm her mate and we are meant to be together. I don't want to scare her off. Humans gets scared easily. I have studied them enough to know that fact.
I took another sip, barely skimming. "I am taking my time."
"You have been saying that for years now. When are you going to break the ice and tell her that she's your woman for goodness sake?" He said tiredly. "You have waited so long to find her and you finally did but can't tell her?"
I took another sip with answering him. It wasn't as easy as he was making it seem. If it were a woman of my kind, I would have done so right away but I couldn't. I wouldn't.
"Is she at least trying to get closer to you?"
I slowly bring my face to meet his curious ones. "She sees me as a teacher and nothing else. No matter what I do, she's refusing to budge and I can't do anything about it neither can I force her."
He went silent for a while and just then, his phone vibrated on the table where he had kept it. "Velez is calling my Lord" He spoke up the minute he saw the caller ID. It was the investor. The music from the speakers was too loud so i had to tune in my wolf ears so that i would hear him properly.
"It must be important. Take the call and meet me here when you're done" I commanded
"Yes my lord" He quickly placed the phone on his ears and exited the club. Degar was my best friend and beta. He was one of the people that I trusted with my entire life. We had been together for years and he was one of the few people that knew me inside and out. I ordered for a few more glass as I waited.
It was at this moment, I smelled her walk into the club. The prehormones were too thick that it blinded my nostrils. Just then, I felt my wolf becoming restless. It felt like a volcano had erupted inside me. What could she be doing here by this time of the night? I have struggled all day to ignore this intense heat all day and now I'll have to go through it, again?
From where I sat, I scanned through the area and that's when I saw her standing prettily in that dress. Her coat held firmly in her hands. Is it weird that I wanted to be that coat? She looked so pretty. I wasn't used to seeing her dressed like this, not to mention coming here. She was the reserved type. It's such an unlikely place to find her. I looked away before she would spot me. What would she think of me if she saw me here? This is why I never wanted to come here in the first place. This is why I shouldn't have listened to Degar.
I watched her the entire night whilst battling my erection that was almost bulging out of my pants. Degar wasn't back here so I assumed that he was up to his usual shenanigans again. My eyes followed every move until I saw her go in search of her friend. Apparently she was here for a birthday party. I knew the exact moment she rushed outside the club and I also knew the exact moment when she was attacked.
I wanted nothing more than to ignore the woman whom I had been avoiding all these while. I wanted nothing to do with her or scare her off but when I heard the sound of their corked gun and her high-pitched scream, I felt my wolf awaken and at the same time bared its teeth in alert.
I had always thought that i would be able to control myself should Incase a time comes when I would be forced to protect her but it is proving to be the complete opposite of what I had hoped. It's almost like I am being drawn by an invisible pull. A force that I can't reckon with.
Although I still tried to ignore but I was still able to hear her strangled scream. They were hurting her. The realization made my wolf restless which also made me restless.
So I stood up from my table and made my way towards the direction of her screams, all these while, battling with my inner wolf and trying to protest the action of going to help which I knew was futile. I opened the back door that led to the exit outside the bar only to meet an unforgiving sight.
My mate was being dragged into a car by a group of armed men whom I suspected to be kidnappers or young men fighting through their teenage exuberance. My wolf growled in anger as I felt myself getting agitated and ready to pounce on them. The bloody bastards!
"Let her go!" I spoke in an uninterested manner as I strode towards them.
"Professor Dylan?" She called out in a whisper when she realized that it was none other than me.
"Who are you?" Her captors went further to ask and I rolled my eyes at their nonchalance.
"You should know that i do not like repeating myself so save me the time and trouble of doing so" I said and they looked at me weirdly, like I had grown another pair of head when all I did was very much dominate their space.
"Get out or we'll make you." One of the men said as he corked his gun and pointed it at me. I rolled my eyes at their feeble attempt to apprehend me.
"Let me go!" Emily snorted as she tried to force herself away from her grip. The scorn edged on my face would've been funny if it was someone else in her position but then she isn't just anyone. She is my mate.
Emily bit the hands of the man that held her captive as she made her escape to hide behind my back. The man in question who was bitten cried out in pain as blood oozed out from the place where he had just been bitten.
"You slutty b***h!" The other man roared in anger and tried to raise his hands at me but I caught it midway through the air and snapped his fingers which cracked his bones. He cried out in pain from the impact as he stared at his hands that had gotten a new shape thanks to me.
The other guy who saw this fired his gun at me but was left speechless when I didn't budge or fall to the ground. The bullet hit me alright but there was no impact or scratch.
"f**k!" He groaned when he realized that he was now in deep s**t. He tried to run away but I picked him up with one hand like he weighed nothing and threw him away. He crashed and hit his head on the bonnet of the car. Like garbage thrown into the dumpster.
Emily gasped from behind me but I was too busy to pay her any attention. On a good day, I would've let them go but they touched my mate. They laid their filthy hands on her. The thought of it stirred my wolf again. In anger, my eyes took the color of the wolf as I approached the other guy.
"I told you to let her go because I do not like repeating myself but you chose to defy me" I finished my statement with a growl. I felt the veins on my neck pop and the hairs at the back of my neck stand. My claws retracted, my teeth replaced with fangs and right there, I shifted to my animal. I snapped the head of the guy that was already lying half dead on the bonnet of the car and he went dead. In one Swift move, I had their heads rolling on the ground.
In my wolf form, I turned to look at Emily as I slowly made my way towards her. She was breathing heavily as panic and dread flashed through her eyes. I can smell her fear and I don't like it.
Just before I could shift back, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell to the ground unconscious. I shifted back and took her into my arms. This wasn't exactly how I wanted it to go.
"My Lord?" My wolf ears picked up Degar's voice from inside the club.
"Outside the club, now Degar!" I ordered in a stern voice and minutes later, I heard his preceding footsteps approaching us. I had always been able to communicate telepathically. It was one of my senses I had.
"What just happened here?" I heard Degar's voice but I could answer as all my attention was focused on Emily. "Did you—" He paused, trying to take in everything in front of him. The ground was covered in blood with the bodies of the men I had killed scattered everywhere.
"Clean up this mess. I'll handle the rest from here!" I ordered him and he nodded once before I picked up an unconscious Emily in my arms and disappeared out of his sight in search of my car. I had to do something and fast.
