Ella’s POV
My closet was full. Clothes, shoes, scarves… you name it. Suzie and I had gone all out yesterday. She’d helped me pick out such amazing outfits at the mall.
It was so fun doing that too. I’d enjoyed trying out outfits and then going to her so she could gauge them and say nay or yay. She was like the judge of all things fashion and somehow she was getting me to really like being all different now.
Right now, I was in front of my mirror, taking one last look before I could walk out. I felt different. A good kind of different. I felt amazing this morning, mostly because I looked different.
Suzie had helped me pick out a red leather jacket, dark wash skinny jeans and a pair of gorgeous ankle boots that I was sporting right now. I had never been in an outfit like this before and I was loving it.
I felt so comfortable. And… I looked amazing.
I felt alive standing in front of this mirror, more alive than I had felt in a long while.
Looking good for myself really did make me feel good. My hair looked so healthy and lush, flowing down my back and shoulders in waves.
Savoring the amazing feeling that was washing over me, I remembered I needed to get to school. I smiled slightly at myself and said…
“You are a beautiful, smart, intelligent woman and nothing can stop you.”
It was a little weird talking to the mirror, but it felt great, and that’s all that mattered.
Realizing I’d get late for school if I wasn’t careful, I quickly walked out of my room and hurried to the living room.
As soon as I walked in, everyone suddenly turned and looked at me. They were all seated at the dining area, already having breakfast... My Mom, Dad and my cousin Suzie.
Suzie didn’t even have anything she was doing today, I had no idea why she’d woken up so early.
“And there’s the Queen,” Suzie said, making me smile slightly as I walked up to the breakfast table.
“Wow,” Mom suddenly said. Her mouth was open in delighted surprise. I bet she’d never seen her daughter looking like this, like ever.
“I mean… I’m speechless. You look gorgeous,” she finally said.
I smiled.
“Thanks Mom,” I said to her, taking my seat around the table, “The fault is all Suzie’s,” I added, glancing at Suzie.
“Guilty as charged,” Suzie said and smiled.
As she was speaking, I noticed my parents give each other a glance and then they both smiled at each other.
I didn’t mind them, I just went ahead and poured myself a glass of juice and served two croissants onto my plate.
“Honey, if you don’t mind me asking.. whats with the new look?” Mom said, making me look up at her.
Even before I could speak, Suzie chipped in…
“She has a date,”
“Suzie…” I yelled at her, trying to hide the smile on my face.
“Hmm, a date… huh?” Mom said, looking at me with a smile.
“It’s not a date, it’s just… I’m expecting to see someone at school, that’s all,” I said, sipping from my glass of juice to try and hide my excitement about it all.
I still hadn’t been able to stop thinking about Phoenix. He’d told me on Saturday night that since today would be his first day at Silver Claw High, he’d be expecting me to give him a tour of our school. Knowing that I was going to see him in a few made me excited as hell.
“She met him at the Alpha party on Saturday,” Suzie suddenly blurted out, as she continued having her breakfast.
Dang it this girl was a chatterbox. Why couldn’t she keep her mouth shut? I noticed my parents giving each other smiley glances again.
“Is it him?” Dad suddenly said. “Is he your mate?”
That question made me stop. Suzie and I immediately looked at each other.
Yesterday, I had told Suzie everything. I had told her all about Zane, starting from the crush I’d had on him and how I’d found out that he was my mate on my birthday, and also how he had rejected and humiliated me.
It had actually been so amazing to finally tell my story to somebody. It had been so cathartic getting all of it out of my chest like that. But… I had made Suzie promise not to tell my Mom and Dad that Zane was my mate and that he’d rejected me.
That was why she was looking at me right now.
“No,” I answered my Dad, “He’s not my mate. He’s just… someone I met,” I added.
Dad smiled and nodded, seeming satisfied with the answer.
I immediately stood up. I was done with breakfast and I needed to get to school before I ran late.
“I’m off to school, see you guys later,” I said.
“No wait,” Dad said, standing up.
“I’ll drop you off today dear. I’m headed to town anyway, so you can ride with me,” he added, picking his keys from the table.
“Oh, okay,” I said.
Riding with Dad was always amazing. He liked playing slow music in his car, and he didn’t like too much small talk… We’d just listen to music throughout the drive.
Before long, he dropped me off in front of school and I waved him goodbye.
While I was walking up towards the school’s entrance, I noticed people were giving me all sorts of looks. I felt so strange because I had never been a person anyone ever paid any attention to.
I saw some girls smiling at me as I continued walking in. People that had never even known I existed were giving me glances left and right. I passed beside a group of football players on the hallway, and they all just stopped talking and looked at me.
It was the weirdest thing ever, getting all this attention all of a sudden. But I didn’t make much of it. I only smiled and continued strutting across the hallway. Today was a new day, and I so felt amazing being a new me.
I had Chemistry in the first period, and so I hurried up to class and sat in the front like I always did. I felt so free because I knew that first, Zane wouldn’t be at school today.
I mean, he was Alpha now, it would have been weird for him to be at school so I knew I would most likely not have to see him all day today. And second, I was going to see Phoenix again. As the class was starting, I wondered if he had already arrived here at school. I was really looking forward to giving him that tour.
When Chemistry class was over, I held my books in my hands and walked gracefully out of class. I hurried to my locker, opened it and stashed my books inside. I was starting to wonder if Phoenix had even come to school. Maybe I needed to go look for him or something, right?
Just as I was closing my locker on the hallway, I suddenly felt an overwhelming excitement washing all over my body. I felt my wolf Snow come to life in a rush. She was getting super excited and sending tingles all around my body.
It felt like deja vu. This feeling was so familiar, and considering the last time it had happened, I wasn’t sure I liked where it was going.
Then out of the blues, he suddenly appeared… Phoenix. My gaze naturally drifted towards him and I just stood there watching him as he got closer towards me.
I couldn’t move. Excitement was rushing through my body like a hurricane. There was a scent in the air that smelt like heaven, and it soothed my nostrils every time I breathed in. My wolf was howling in excitement, making me think only one thought.
MATE
What...? How was this even possible?
“Hey beautiful,” Phoenix suddenly said.
His voice… oh his voice. I was helpless. I couldn’t stop the huge smile that was curving itself onto my face as I started talking to him.
“Hey,” I said, “I was starting to think you lied to me when I didn’t see you anywhere,” I told him.
He smiled slightly.
“I would never lie to you,” he said, looking me in the eyes.
My wolf Snow was going crazy in my head because Phoenix was standing like a step in front of me. I was doing everything I could to reign her in and try to calm her down a bit, but it wasn’t working too well. I also couldn’t understand what was happening.
I mean, Phoenix was my mate? How? I thought Zane was my mate… Did I have two mates?
I had heard that sometimes the Moon Goddess gave wolves second chance mates but that was like so rare. But then again, my wolf Snow had all-white fur, which was as rare as it got, so I guess this wasn’t too surprising.
I was so thrilled to find out Phoenix was meant for me. He’d treated me so well when we first met at that party on Saturday night.
“Is everything okay,” he said, shaking me out of my thoughts. “You kinda phased out there for a minute,” he added, sending me a sweet killer smile.
I smiled.
“Yeah, everything is perfect…” I said, “So, how do you like Silver Claw High so far?” I added.
Just standing here talking to him felt like I was on top of the world. My wolf Snow was flooding my body with excitement, and Phoenix’s scent was driving me insane. I wanted to get closer to him and inhale it even more, but that would have been super weird so I just kept my cool.
Just as we were talking, I suddenly felt another rush of excitement run through my body. There was suddenly a different scent in the air, and it was pulling me like crazy.
I was starting to get really confused now. What the hell was happening to me?
I looked up towards where the scent was coming from and that’s when I saw him.
Wait… another Phoenix?
The jock walking towards me looked exactly like him. His face, hairline, cheekbones… everything, except for the clothes. What the hell… Who was that?
I looked at Phoenix and then looked at him again, they looked exactly the same. Wait, was I dreaming again?
Just as the confusion tore through me, Phoenix turned around to look where I was looking and I heard him make a low grunt.
“Oh,” he said, “That’s Asher, my twin brother,” he added.
Wait, what now?
