Helen Hawthorne Fear pulsed through me as I watched my mate disappear into the shadows of the woods. My heart was racing, and my breath felt ragged as I tried to think quickly. There was no time for hesitation, I had to act on my feet. Suddenly, a loud growling noise broke through the silence of the forest. It sent a chill down my spine – something was out there and it sounded dangerous. Instinctively, I knew that I should shift into my wolf form if I wanted to stand any chance of survival. Before shifting though, I reached up and grabbed the ring Morgan had given me from around my finger and held it tightly in my palm. On impulse, I tucked it as a pendant of my cord necklace so that it wouldn't get lost when I shifted. Taking one last deep breath in human form, I closed my eyes and sta
