Chapter 3 - Exhaustion

*Her*

Skylar was very tired, so she hoped this meeting with the Alpha wolf would be quick so she could get some sleep.

When she noticed the car had stopped, she was staring. The house in front was huge and very domineering, and standing on the front steps was obviously the Alpha. The emotions flowing from that one man were many and fleeting. 

Skylar seen that David emerged from the car first and then everyone else got out. Skylar was reluctant to move but she didn't want to peeve the Alpha either so she gingerly got out of the car and stood besides Calista.

David bowed before his Alpha and declared.

"Alpha, I have brought Nicholas mate, his daughter....and my mate!" 

As he gestured towards her, she went red with embarrassment. 

'oh my god....this guy.... seriously...' Skylar thought to herself. Besides her Calista went to introduce herself but was interrupted by the Alpha.

"Hi, I... I'm Calista...." 

Alpha william, grabbed his betas forearm in a friendly shake. 

"Congratulations Beta David!" 

He then turned to Calista and Skylar.

"You may call me Alpha Stone. This is my wife Amy....I believe you spoke to her over the phone too... I'm sorry to have to drag you here, but we are in need of any information that you have to help us find Nicholas. His family are quite worried also...." 

Skylar watched as the Alpha awaited to be at the little girls height before he gently spoke to her.

"Hello little one. You can stay with Your dad's family. It'll be safer and I'm sure they will be glad to see you. They haven't seen you since you were a baby. "

The little girl clung to Calista, but she addressed him politely.

"Yes Alpha." 

After the introductions were done the Alpha moved everyone towards the house and towards his office.

Skylar made to follow behind her friend but flinched as David started to walk besides her.

" So...my little mate, forgive me, I haven't asked you your name." 

Skylar scoffed. "It's Skylar, if you must know." 

"Oh it's a very pretty name. Just like you." David again was smiling broadly.

Skylar rolled her eyes and continued to follow the others until they came to the doible doors that housed the Alphas office.

At this point Skylar started yawning. She was so closed to exhaustion but kept herself awake to support her friend. 

They sat down in the chairs in front of the alpha, who sat on his big office chair behind the desk.

The little girl climbed onto Calista lap, slightly bumping Skylar as she did so. The alpha then began their conversation.

"So... Calista....you are Nicholas mate...?" 

As they spoke to each other, Skylar was filling with her fingers. She could feel Davids presence near her, but he soon stepped up to besides the Alpha when he was signalled 

" Let Nicholas' family know I'll speak to them later..." 

David bowed. 

"Yes sir..." 

He then looked and winked at Skylar before leaving the room.

Skylar let out a groan. 'will this guy just stop?' she thought.

Alpha William again asked Calista more questions, and Skylar sank lower into the chair, her eyes getting heavy. The lack of sleep from nightshift was beginning to hit her. She tuned out. The voices were becoming muddled on her brain. There were too many people around and too many emotions to filter through that Skylar was having overload. She just wanted to get outside. 

On her exhausted, muddled, overloaded state the only words Skylar could focus on in the conversation between the Alpha, Calista and the little girl were random words.

"Coven...." "Wolf dying...." "Need a rescue plan...."

 Skylar was nudged by Calista and she caught the last sentence by the Alpha.

"Hmm maybe we can negotiate then...? Ok that's all for now. Let me think on what we can do next. My wife, my Luna can see to it that you guys are settled in." 

'finally' Skylar thought. 'i can get some sleep.'

Luna Amy stepped forward with a smile. 

"Come. I'll show you guys to your rooms for the night. In the morning we can introduce you to Nicholas' family." 

Skylar yawned again. The Luna gave her a sympathetic smile. They all followed her out the door and down a hallway. 

Skylar was on autopilot by this point. The Luna showed Calista and Persephone to a room Before turning to Skylar. 

" Ok then. Now...you...miss... Skylar..?" 

She shrugged her shoulders to her best friend before watching her disappear into the room with the little girl.

Skylar gingerly spoke "Yes...." 

Before the Luna opened her mouth to say something there was heavy footsteps behind them, and the booming voice of the one person Skylar was hoping to avoid.

"She will stay with me Luna." 

Beta David had a big smile on his face as he put his arm around Skylars shoulders.

"She is my mate after all." 

He proudly proclaimed. 

The Luna laughed as she noticed Skylar was most uncomfortable and was trying to shake him off but his chunky muscular arms wouldnt budge.

"Oh you poor dear...but congratulations Beta David!" 

Skylar watched as she gave the beta a hug before walking between the two down the hall to the betas room.

Skylar was disgusted. 'what am I? Some trophy to these people?'  

But she bit her tongue and endured it all. 

When they got to David's room, the Luna turned to Skylar before also giving her a hug. 

"Oh it's so good to see that David has someone as pretty as you. He has waited his whole life for his mate. " Before she leaned in and whispered in Skylar's ear. 

"He's a good man and we as a pack are excited that we finally have our new Beta female. I expect great things from you." 

Before she let go and bid both Skylar and David a good afternoon. 

David started to rub his right hand over the back of his neck and he looked sheepish. 

"So my room doesn't have much in it yet...I hope you don't mind..." 

Before he opened his door. Skylar looked around. 

His bed was neatly made, it had a blue duvet and baby blue sheets. On one of the bedside tables was a group picture of army troops. 

David seen her looking at it before he remarked. "Those are my army buddies"

"O...K.." Skylar said before she noticed the time. No wonder she was tired. It was one pm. They hadn't even had lunch! 

"Um...I'm tired and hungry...." 

David then noticed that his little mate was still in her work uniform. 

"Forgive me... I'll get the kitchen to make you something. In the mean time, um...make yourself at home....the bathroom is through there...you can shower if you want.... I'll get you some clothes...." 

Skylar watched him bounce around getting her things before he left to go to the kitchen. 

Skylar went into his bathroom and looked around. In the sink was one toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste. In the vanity mirror was a razor, and some shaving cream. She shut the mirror before she decided to have a warm relaxing bath, they always helped ground her after emotional overload. 

She unpinned her relaxation satchet from her uniform and sprinkled some of the lavender into the tub. The steam coming off the water as the tub filled looked so inviting. 

Skylar undressed and stepped into the tub. As she sat down the water rose around her enveloping her in warmth. She lay back and closed her eyes. She was so exhausted she fell asleep.....
