CHAPTER 5 – The Mission

1413 Words
I In a flash, Lexus remembered what happened a week ago. “Yes Alpha, I was told that you summoned me for an urgent task,” Lexus said as he bowed his head to the old and kind Alpha of the Mythical Silver Shadow Pack. “I learned that the Alpha of the Black Forest Pack is in wide search for the remaining breed of the Golden Wolves. The new Alpha wanted to keep the Golden Wolf for himself as a mistress to make him the most powerful Alpha. But we will not allow that. I will be passing on my Alpha crown to my son Drew and he wanted that Golden she-wolf to be her Luna to make him the strongest Alpha; even stronger than that Black Alpha, who killed the Alpha and Luna, the last breed of the Golden Wolves. Lexus, try everything to find the missing sole daughter of the Alpha and Luna of the Golden Wolves’ Breed.” Alpha Daedos stated. It was an order for Beta Lexus and failure is not an option. Beta Lexus nodded. “Yes, Alpha.” “Lexus, I know, you are just our newly appointed Beta in lieu of your father, who is now suffering from blindness. I have faith in you. Just like your father, you will be the greatest, most feared Beta of our pack.” The Alpha of the Mythical Silver Shadow Pack patted the right shoulder of Lexus, letting him understand that he has full trust in him. “Yes, Alpha. Thank you for entrusting me with this assignment.” Lexus said, remembering his father’s story about what happened to the last breed of the Golden Wolves around twenty years ago. Lexus goes home, still thinking about the mission entrusted to him by their Alpha. It would be a difficult mission; he might have the occasion to fight against the notorious, evil-minded, Black Forest Pack Alpha. “Father, I have something to tell you,” Lexus said as he saw his father sitting on his favorite rocking chair. His father is about sixty years old. He is still strong, but because of glaucoma, he has become partially blind since last year. As his only son, he was appointed to take over his father’s Beta position in the pack. At the age of twenty-three, Lexus the mighty Beta warrior is still unmated up until now, just like the upcoming Alpha of the Mythical Silver Shadow Pack. “What is it, Lexus?” his father asked, eyeing him, trying to check on him even with his blurry vision. Lexus sat on the chair beside his father. “Father, I was tasked by Alpha to find the missing last breed of the Golden Wolves.” His father looked in his direction, nodding. “I know he will assign you to do that soon. The Alpha told me before that his son wanted a Luna from that Golden Wolves’ Breed.” “So, is the myth true, father, that the Golden Wolves are the most powerful wolves, because of their mental powers?” Lexus asked curiously. His father nodded. “It is not a myth, Lexus; that is the truth. That was why many Alphas before made sure that the Alpha and Luna of that breed would not survive. Luna, however, was wise enough to hand over her daughter to some hikers in the mountains, who were able to flee, bringing with them the remaining Golden She-wolf. The Golden Alpha and Luna were killed but their daughter survived.” “And she is the last breed of the Golden Wolves, father?” “Yes. Unless the Golden Alpha has another child with someone else, but no one knows.” “I see. I am just wondering, father; it will be as if I would be looking for a pin in a stack of hay. How can I tell that she is the last golden she-wolf?” Lexus asked with confusion in his tone. The former Beta smiled. “Easy Lexus. First, she has to have golden eyes; second, she is wonderfully intelligent because her mind and her mental abilities are incomparable to an ordinary wolf or human, and lastly, you will see a golden mark on her bosom.” II “I need to go,” Daffodil said, and turned her back from him. Lexus suddenly has been awakened from his reminiscences. “Daffodil, you cannot just walk around here like that, it would be too risky on your part. At least always wear dark sunglasses when you are out of your room or with contact lenses to cover the true color of your eyes.” Lexus did not release Daffodil's hand. So confused now, Daffodil shot him with such an inquiring look. “Come inside my boat; I will tell you everything. Please just trust me, I will not harm you. I just want to protect you.” Lexus spoke to her with gentleness when he saw her hesitation and confusion. It was like a hand had caressed her heart with the way Lexus spoke and looked at her with such care and adoration. Daffodil did not try to remove her hand again from his grip, instead, she followed him going to his speed boat. Inside the speed boat, Lexus guided her inside its small cabin. “Daffodil, only a few have eyes like yours, or most probably you are the only one now. There are some with amber eyes, but not as golden as yours, Daffodil.” He started his talk. “I know. So where is this talk going?” She seemed impatient already. “Daffodil, you might be the missing last breed of the Golden Wolves,” Lexus said this slowly, trying to let her understand each and every word that he stated. Her eyes were as wide as the full moon when she looked at him. “Me? A golden wolf? But my parents are American Business Tycoons. No way that they are werewolves.” she was totally confused. Suddenly, her dreams from moments ago haunted her. Lexus thinks of ways of letting Daffodil understand that her parents might not be her real parents, but he knew hurting her would be inevitable. “Daffodil, if you have a golden mark on your bosom, probably then that your parents whom you grew up with are not your biological parents, because your parents were the Alpha and Luna of the Golden Wolves Breed.” “Oh my God, No!” I cannot accept this!” Daffodil, with tears rolling down her cheeks, tried to get out of the cabin but Lexus gently embraced her to pacify her. “Take it easy, Sweetheart. It will be truly hurting to know the truth. But we need to find ways to make you safe here. The evil Alpha of the Black Forest Pack is searching for you to make you her mistress.” He added that gave more shock to Daffodil. “What? Me? As a mistress? Damn him, whoever he is!” Outrage, Daffodil screamed. “Shhh, someone might hear you. Do you use contact lenses? Did you bring one?” Suddenly Lexus asked. “I have. I fancied having blue eyes from time to time, so I have one blue contact lens. It’s in my stuff inside the studio.” “Good. You need to wear it all the time while you are here and we need to find a solution to mislead them.” “There is only one solution, Lexus. I will go back to my country by tomorrow,” she firmly said, but Lexus cannot take that. She needed to stay here until he made her inseparable from him. “There is no need to hurry about going back home, Daffodil. You still need to learn so many things about who you really are. We need to call and discover your wolf and let her out of you. You need to know how to shift into your wolf form.” Lexus explained, trying to encourage her to stay. “I don’t have that golden mark. So, I am not the missing that golden she-wolf you told me,” Daffodil suddenly said. “Better if not then, because it means, I don’t have a problem proclaiming and marking you as my mate.” Lexus cupped her chin and kissed her, making Daffodil’s brain spin; she could not think wisely anymore. In her mind, she regretted telling him a lie.
