Chapter 38 - ROMAN

994 Words

“Hey Dad” I say going to sit at the edge of his bed, battling back the tears that are threatening at the sight of how exhausted and incapacitated my Dad looks right now. My Dad seems to be struggling to open his eyes. “Roman?” he croaks. “Do you need some water Dad?” I ask him. He slowly nods, so I reach for the glass on the side of the counter next to his bed and offer it to him, holding the straw to his mouth. I watch as my Dad slowly sips water from the straw, his face looks drawn and old, not like the strong and powerful man I had left behind only a matter of months before. I hate to admit to myself I was scared for him, I truly was. But I had to be focused for him, he needed me to be the strong one right now. I could not show any weakness. I placed the glass back on the counter.
