6 - Deidre Shows Off

Alana    There weren’t very many prisoners at that point in time, and the few that were there didn't make hardly any noise.  It left me with plenty of time spent in total silence besides the sound of my own heartbeat and breathing.       That’s why it was so easy for me to pick up on the sound of another heartbeat coming from my lower abdomen.  It was the first time since I got locked in the dungeon that a smile found it’s way on my face.       I wouldn’t ever get to see Jax’s handsome face and gorgeous smile again, but I would forever have a piece of him in the form of a cub.  It gave me a new reason to wanna live, and I immediately crawled over to my shitty plate of food and woofed it down.     Unfortunately, the food didn’t stay down long, because I had waited so long to eat.  After puking up every last bit of that food, I laid there on the cold concrete floor, holding my belly and weeping.  I feared that my recent stubbornness would cause me to have a miscarriage and cause me to also lose the last piece of Jax.     We might have only had a short amount of time together, but it was enough to leave a lasting effect on me.  Over the past few weeks, I had come to terms with the fact that I fell in love with Jax during that time, and I would miss him something awful for years to come.     While laying there, I made a vow to my unborn cub.  I vowed to take better care of myself, and to always be a good mum, since Jax was no longer with us.  It was the least I could in honor of the man who showed me how great life can be.       After that, I ate smaller portions of my food until I built my appetite back up, and I made sure to drink all of my water.  As soon as the guards noticed the change in my eating habits, they questioned me about it, but I refused to talk to anybody there.     Instead, I kept my mouth shut and did what I thought was best for me and my cub.  That was my top priority. Jax     Deidre had to cast the Blessing Spell on me before I could enter the Starlit Coven’s territory, because of me being a rogue.  After that, she led me through the forest to a small cottage not far from where she found me.  It was built into a hill and hidden well with several large bushes surrounding the front of it.     When we stepped inside, I noticed right away that the cottage had a nice, homey aura about it.  The furniture was a cream color that matched the carpet and the window curtains.  There was a small, square coffee table in front of the sofa, and there was a small, round dining table in the middle of the kitchen.       To the right, there were two doors that I assumed led to her bedroom and the bathroom.  Deidre made no attempt to show me around and simply walked over to the sofa and sat down.       I was quick to follow suit and sat down next to the strange witch.  As soon as my butt hit the seat, Deidre got straight to business and asked, “If I get you onto that territory, how do you plan to bring Queen Snow to me?”     After thinking about her question, I met her gaze and confidently answered, “I can’t say for sure right now, because I don’t know the layout of the castle or the territory.  However, I can assure you that if I’m able to free Alana, she will know exactly how to get her hands on the queen.”     “Fantastic,” Deidre mumbled followed by a loud cackle.  Once her cackling died down, she rubbed her hands together and evilly snarled, “The time has finally arrived for me to get payback on Delilah.”     “Who’s Delilah?” I asked in confusion.     “She was Snow’s prissy mother.  I never got to get my revenge on Delilah before she disappeared.  Now I will use her daughter to exact my revenge,” the half-crazed witch mumbled somewhat incoherently, then she started cackling again, but even louder than the first time.     I was quickly starting to doubt if Deidre had the mental capacity to do what was needed of her, so I politely asked, “Would you be willing to show me some of your awesome skills?  I would love to see you in action.”     “Quite the charmer you are!  Tell you what, we’ll make a trip to the outskirts of the Jungle Pack’s territory and watch for one of those werecats to leave.  I’ll give you quite the show,” Deidre cooed with a wicked smile plastered on her wrinkled face.     After Deidre threw together a few sandwiches and snacks for the road, we hopped in her black, Chevy truck, then she drove us to our destination.  Once we got there, it was time to play the waiting game again.     Luckily, we didn’t have to play the game as long this time.  Within a few hours of arriving, we heard the sound of a car’s tires going over the pavement in the distance.  Deidre instructed me to stay hidden in the brush off to the side, then she stood in the middle of the road and frantically waved her hands around like she was in trouble.     Suddenly, a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse popped over the hill and came to a screeching halt, coming inches to hitting Deidre, who dropped to her knees in front of the car.  Right away, a guy with the darkest brown eyes I had ever seen jumped out of the car and ran around to Deidre.     The guy helped the crazy witch to her feet, but he was not rewarded for his gratitude.  Instead, Deidre stepped back from him and started cackling like a mad woman, then she lifted her hand and pointed at the guy.  A second later, what looked like some kind of laser beam or something shot out of her finger and turned the guy into stone right there where he stood.     A high-pitched scream sounded from inside of the car, then three women jumped out of it.  The woman with reddish hair ran straight to man of stone, while the short one with jade eyes sprinted toward Deidre.  However, she didn’t make it far before the witch turned her into a stone statue, too.     Another high-pitched scream sounded from the third woman, who looked like she could be the twin of the woman with red hair.  To my surprise, she threw her hands out in front of her, then something caused Deidre to go flying backwards.     I was once again surprised to see Deidre hop right back up like nothing had happened, then she attempted to turn the third woman into stone.  That one was smart and saw it coming.  She leaped into the air, then she sprinted at an ungodly speed toward Deidre.     Just before the woman reached her, Deidre vanished from in front of our eyes.  A second later, she appeared in front of me and grabbed a hold of my shoulders.  Before I had a chance to ask what she was going to do, everything turned blurry around me.  When things came back into focus, we were standing beside Deidre’s truck.     She hastily instructed me to hop in, while she did the same, then Deidre threw the truck into gear and sped out of there like a bat out of hell.  I held onto the oh s**t handles like my life depended on it, and prayed that the crazy witch didn’t kill us in her attempt to get away from the werecats.
