CHAPTER SEVEN

-July 31: Friday- “Can I present our work? Will they find out I did our essay myself? What if they’ll think I lied?” she asked herself for the nth time. Pacing back and forth, Daisy tightly clenched the coin she’s been holding ever since she started panicking about their upcoming essay presentation. “Heads.” She muttered, looking at her closed fist. “Let it be heads and that means luck is with me.” Taking a deep breath, she opened her palm and flipped the coin, closing it once again after the coin landed back on her hand after some seconds of being in the air. Please be heads. Slowly, she started to open her hand, but before she can take a peek at the outcome, the sudden knock on the door made her gasp and for her hand to become unbalance, causing for the coin to fall and roll under her bed. With a frown, she walked towards the door and opened it, revealing her mom who’s looking at her with a teasing smile. “What?” she asked, her frown deepening even more. Her mom just chuckled and pushed her inside. “Mom? What’s this?” she asked, uncomfortably looking at her mom who’s checking her overall look. Do I look bad? She thought. Mom never looked at me that way. She’s being weird. With her white off shoulder top and black jeans that is partnered with ankle strap low heels, her half ponytail hairdo compliments the casual and girly looks that she’s emitting. So what could go wrong with it? “Yep. You’re definitely my daughter.” Her mom praised, clapping her hands twice. Blinking her eyes, Daisy just sighed and turned to her bed, deciding to look for the coin and know the result. Bending down, she reached for the coin that is just a few inches away from her. Please be heads. With that thought, she raised her hand and revealed the coin, causing for a wide smile to display on her lips. It’s a head. “So what’s up, mom?” she excitedly asked after standing up and faced her mother once again. Yes. The luck is with me. “I just came here to check on you since you’re two friends are downstairs.” “Oh? Theia and Nate? But it’s still early, though.” she asked, her smile still plastered on her lips. “No. They’re Eric and Calvin, the new guy said he’s your friend.” With her mom’s answer, her smile faded. “What?” she asked, her happiness long gone and a blank expression present on her face. As if not noticing her daughter’s change of mood, her mother just chuckled and gave her a pat on her arm. “Go now sweetie, they said they’re here to fetch you.” Taking a deep breath, Daisy just took her phone and bag before going downstairs, deciding to keep herself quiet and not burst out in front of mother who seemed to misunderstood everything. Yeah. Luck my foot. Reaching the living room, Eric and Calvin were both sitting on the couch, but on opposite ends and with a wide gap between them. “No one told you guys to come here.” She frankly said, causing for the two to lift their gazes and look at her. “You did.” Calvin answered, making her brows meet in confusion. “When?” she asked. “Check your phone.” Eric replied. Eager to know why they blamed her, she opened her phone and checked their conversation. Daisy: Seriously? You icebergs should’ve at least helped me. If you care about your grades, check out the essay before our class starts so you can see whether you want it or not so we’re going to remake it and pass it later than the submission. After reading the last message she gave before going offline to finish the essay by adding the things she learned from the question-and-answer portion that they made, her confusion’s still uneased. “I didn’t told you guys to come here and check it right now.” “Don’t focus on your last message, stupid.” Calvin said with a smirk. Damn Eric’s clone. Daisy thought as she glared at him. Despite that, she still reopened her phone and checked their group chat. Calvin: You got a plan? Maverick’s class is our first period. Eric: Then go to her house and check it before going to school. Got no brain to think for you Strauss? Calvin: Shut up. Even if I can use my resources to look for her address, I don’t want to go. Eric: Suit yourself. Let me make a trash out of your personality then. Calvin: Thanks. You gave me the idea of going there earlier to trash you first. Finally noticing the remaining messages that she failed to see before, Daisy sighed and glared at them. “Nice plan. Go to my house. Nice.” She sarcastically said, nodding at her own words. “Take care of our Daisy, okay?” her mom suddenly said, causing for them to look at her side where she seemed to surprisingly appear. “She’s quite a handful most of the times but she’s the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet.” “Seriously? Most of the time?” Daisy scoffed. “I’m never a handful mom.” She said, but she just earned her mother’s chuckle who visibly doesn’t believe her at all. If tails were to appear at that coin, maybe things changed. She thought, blaming the result. “It’s fine aunt Eve, I’m already used to her.” Eric answered with a smile. Wow. Award winning actor. Daisy thought as she watches him smile like a polite person. “It’s okay aunt Eve. She’s not that bad sometimes.” Calvin said with the same smile. What’s with these believable actors? Daisy thought as her frown deepens while looking at her mom who’s naively praising the two guys who claimed that Daisy’s fine for them. With a sigh, Daisy went on the other couch to put her bag on it, pulling out the paper and handed it to them. “I made it honestly.” She said as her hand’s stretched forward. “Maybe some were just my hunches based on what I’ve observed from you two from the past days you guys did nothing but oppose each other.” “And mom,” she said, looking at her mother who’s smiling at them. “You can go back.” She said with a smile. “I have a feeling you might blurt out unexpected things if you’ll stay.” She said with a sweet smile, lessening the impact of her words to not offend her mom. Her mother just chuckled and patted her arm once again before going straight to the kitchen. What was that for? She thought, getting goosebumps with the teasing way her mother looked at her. Eyeing the paper, Eric took the essay papers. Not even after a minute, he commented. “I’m not unapproachable and I’m not being a dictator or a tyrant to others.” He said, just finished reading the first paragraph. “I’m not avoiding people nor scaring them either.” Calvin seconded, reading the paper beside Eric. Daisy sighed. “Our classmates, I mean the whole school, doesn’t want to be in your way because they’re scared and doesn’t want to mess with you.” She said, pertaining to Eric. “Our classmates, or basically the whole school as well, says that they want to talk to you but they can’t cause you’re looking at people like you’re going to eat them alive if they’ll disturb you.” She said, now looking at Calvin. Thinking about the past days, Daisy sighed once again. “Did you know that because of you two, I kept getting lots and lots of complaints from your fangirls, and my so-called admirers bugs me on why am I talking to you like we’re so close?” she blankly questioned. “They’re pissing me off.” She added, her eyes getting sharper than before. “Continue reading the facts I wrote.” She said, waving her hand dismissively before focusing her eyes on her phone. “We’ve got 10 more minutes before going to school.” “They’re annoying. Why would I waste my time talking just for them?” Eric shrugged, now reading the next parts. “And I’m not?” Daisy deadpanned, now looking at him. “Kind of.” He replied, still focused on reading. “Those people you’re talking about were either chickens who can’t talk out loud or those ugly voiced people who can’t even sit still without talking.” Calvin said, calmly reading the essay. “Should I take it as a compliment that I can talk to you two with high standards?” she deadpanned once again. “Kind of.” Calvin said, repeating the exact answer Eric gave her before. After their conversation, silence fell for some minutes, but it was broken down when the two raised their complaints after reaching the last part of the essay. “Since when did I showed kindness? Erase these ‘soft-hearted guy’ and everything’s already good.” Eric said. “I disagree with this. I never considered you as friends.” Calvin seconded. “You might be my acquaintance but he’s never near an acquaintance.” He added.  “Daisy might be close to me but you’re not my acquaintance either.” Eric replied. Daisy sighed for the nth time. “Why can’t you guys get along? There’s nothing wrong if you two will try and at least become acquaintances.” She said, looking at the two of them with blank eyes. With none of them answering, Daisy just shook her head and took the paper from them, putting it back on her bag before facing them back once again. “Fine. Let’s just go to school.” Oh. Might as well take my car since Eric probably won’t let me hitch a ride. He might use this time to race with Calvin’s car or something since he once said that. She thought, dashing upstairs to take her car key then went back as fast as she could. “Mom, we’re leaving!” she shouted before walking towards the door. Why did I even ask that? The answer’s pretty obvious already. She frowned. But at least they consider me as an acquaintance. Before they reach the gate, Daisy turned to the left and opened the driveway gate then took the car key from her pocket to unlock her purple car. “You guys can go ahead; I’m going to catch up.” She said after opening her car. “Not going to hitch a ride?” Eric asked. “Huh?” she confusedly asked. Seeing her reaction, Eric smirked. “For the past days I’m going here to fetch you, you didn’t bother to go and use your car.” “You were saying?” she asked with a brow raised. “Why did you become conservative and girly right now?” he answered by the form of asking back. Hearing that, she just rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “I’m not conservative nor girly.” She said in a duh tone. “I just have a feeling that you’ll race with Calvin all the way to school so I figured that I’ll use my car to avoid getting nauseous with your speed.” “So you’re avoiding me cause you’re weak?” Eric taunted. “I don’t feel nauseous if I’m the one doing it.” Daisy scoffed. “Is that a challenge?” Calvin asked with a bragging smirk, pertaining to both Eric and Daisy. Hearing that, Eric smirked and Daisy rolled her eyes. “Fine.” She answered. “On the count of three, we’ll go to our cars.” Eric said. “Now move back here with us, Midddlemist. Don’t play dirty.” Calvin said, causing for Daisy to frown and walk back towards them. “I’m not a cheater.” “One.” Eric started. “Two.” Calvin followed. “Three.” Daisy continued. As if a bomb exploded, the three dashed to their cars, with the two guys using the opened driveway gate to their get to cars easier, the three started their race with Daisy going first by a millisecond. I should’ve got the upper hand since I’m nearer to my car but those two were fast. Daisy thought as her eyes shifted from the road and to the mirror to check on Eric who’s on his brown car while Calvin’s on his grey one. I can’t lose to an unapproachable guy nor to a people hater guy. With the three of them acting as if they own the streets, they were only stopped when the red light came, all of them in the front area and is beside each other. The time seemed slow and adds pressure for Daisy, since this is the first time she did a car race. 3…2…1… Looking like the lights became their official emcee, they immediately stepped on the gas the moment the light turned green. Having them run with almost the same fast paces, some of the passerby decoded to stop and watch them go and turn to corners and swiftly move like a snake to push past the scattered cars. I bet those two won’t ask for the guard to open the gate. She thought. “Hey mister guard! Open the gate!” Daisy yelled after opening her window to get the guard’s attention. Seeing the raging cars, the guard immediately called the gatekeeper’s attention to push the button to automatically open the gate. The students, staffs and other people walking on the ground quickly moved and paved the way to those cars who seemed to not know what stop means. With just a mere millisecond differences, the three stopped at the free slots in the parking area. Stopping last, Daisy got out of her car and heaved an annoyed sigh. Fine. I knew I’m going to lose anyway. She thought as she leaned in her car to get her bag, “Your just lucky.” She frowned at the guys who’s already with their school bags. “I won. What you gonna do losers?” Calvin said, smirking at the two who’s glaring at him. “Shut up. Thank your luck.” Eric commented. “At least I’m not last.” He said, turning to Daisy. “Thank your luck.” Daisy said before rolling her eyes. Within the crowd, the cheers and applauds from Theia and Nathan were the loudest. “See? I told you Strauss will win that epic race.” Theia said with a grin as the two walked towards the center of attention. “My 20 thousand should be at my hand before lunch, okay?” “Seriously, man? I thought it’s right to put my faith on you dude.” Nathan complained. “Now I need to pay instead of gaining that cash.” “None of you tried to bet for me?” Daisy said, offended with their choices. “Well,” Theia started, moving towards her and linked her arm with hers. “We can clearly see that purple’s behind brown and grey.” She said before chuckling. Daisy’s offended feelings just got deeper after hearing her answer. But she’s right though. Her brain countered. “But what’s up with the car race?” Nathan pointed out. “You always pick-up Daisy but why is she on her own?” he added. “And why is Calvin with you two?” Theia added, also in favor of knowing the answers. “Long story short, it’s kind of my fault why they came to my house cause of something they misunderstood or something but it’s still their fault because of them threatening each other by making a trash out of each other’s description in our essay. Talk about hot headed ice dudes.” Daisy narrated with a blank expression, confusing the duo who’s listening to her. “I don’t understand a thing. Did you just rap? Slow down okay?” Theia honestly said. “Are you sure that’s English? Since when did you learned alien language and mix it with your unexpected rap skills?” Nathan seconded. Releasing a sigh, Daisy just shook her head and started to walk, Theia following beside her due to their linked arms. “Just think that those two became childish and they dragged me along with them.” She muttered, just loud enough for Theia to hear. Oh? Theia glanced behind them, seeing Nathan talking about soccer while the two just answered him from time to time. Childish? They seemed matured to me. She thought, a small smile spread on her lips as she looked in front of them. Maybe there’s something we can’t see but is present within the three of them. {}{}{} July 31: Hey diary, After today, August will start now. I really hate seeing the first day of the month, it makes me feel like I need to start another countdown till the 25th comes again. But did you know? I always feel weird whenever August comes. For some reason I don’t now for now, my past diaries have it too. I always say that August bugs me and I feel creeped out with it. At first, whenever I’m rereading that part, I’m thinking that I might be overreacting when I wrote that, but I feel weird today too. What’s happening? I feel more tired than usual, I have no urge to go and exert too much energy, and just after the race we had that morning, I feel kind of nauseous and drained out. I guess I did I good job of acting like I’m just lazy so people didn’t notice it. And also, nightmares. My diary from the past years has the same entries when August comes: I always have nightmares. Should I brace myself now for the future nightmares? It really sucks having no memory and you have to begin from the first step every month. You feel me? Of course you can’t. As for today, I presented our essay and I can say it worked out well. But what surprised me the fact when Sir Mav asked the two to present it with me to make sure that the essay is made by all of us, they agreed (I mean, Sir Mav did this to rest too but I thought that they’ll resist because they have lots of complaints about what I wrote). Sir Maverick asked us: “How did you friendship started?” He asked that because of the ending line I made: Despite the differences, our friendship still blossomed as we did the essay. This proved that nothing is impossible as long as you really know each other. Eric answered: “When we spent our lunch and free times to talk.” That nearly made me laugh because the three of us didn’t talked at all (they won’t listen to me). Then, Calvin answered: “When we allotted time to think about each other’s personality and look for reasons for us to become friends.” This nearly made me c***k up too. We did try to put a time for that but they did nothing except bashing each other’s personality, and that left me alone in stopping them. When sir asked me, I said: when we saw the compatibility of our opposite personalities. That’s kind of true because we all have characteristics that opposes each other, but we didn’t become friends, though. Even so, we got an A+!! And because of that, the rumors of me being the fitted ‘Queen of the campus’ started to circulate because according to them: I’m the only one who can ‘tame’ those two. Tame my foot. They’re just good at answering and acting. We’re not even friends. Just acquaintances. -Daisy
