CHAPTER EIGHT

-August 01: Saturday- Standing in the middle of a dark void, Daisy remained quiet as the wind brushes past her, causing for her hands to tighten up her grasp on the thick jacket she’s wearing. “What’s going on?” she asked herself as she tried to look around, but her efforts were unpaid because of the darkness around her. “Hello?” her question was just repeated by the echo, the word becoming more and more eerie as it was repeated.  Soon, her breathing became slower as the coldness started to get in her system, proving that the thick clothes were no match for the winter like cold. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!!” The sudden appearance of a female’s voice made her shiver. The voice is high and creepy, her tone made the children song sounded like a murderer’s favorite line before surprising her prey. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!!” “Wha-” Before she can continue her question, another voice appeared; this time, a young boy’s voice. “No! No! Let me go!” the cries of the kid which I followed by wails and loud shouts made her use her hand to cover up her ears. “Stop!” she shouted. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!!” “No!” And after she shouted that with her eyes shut tight in her dreams, she was snapped back in reality when her eyes opened and her room’s ceiling welcomed her; the sound of her alarm clock ringing at exactly 7 a.m. very weekends became her savior. Breathing heavily, she slowly sat up, her hand up on her head as she felt dizzy from her sudden action, her eyes closing for a moment to regain focus and proper vision.  “What was that?” she questioned herself. “I don’t remember watching any horror movies either.” She added, still immersed with her dream. Heaving a sigh, she just shook her head and stood up before walking towards her table. It’s just a dream. She thought, convincing herself to move on as she took her comb and stared at her reflection on the mirror. Practicing her usual smile, she put her comb down and headed to the door, deciding to start her day fresh and forget about the short dream. “Good morning, sweetie.” Her mother greeted after she reached the dining area, both her parents already at the table and is waiting for her. “Your cousins will visit here later by the way.” “Aaron and his twin?” Daisy asked, forgetting the name of her other cousin. “Aaron and Eros, Daisy.” Her father corrected, chuckling at her. With that, she smiled and took a seat, her eyes focused on the breakfast her mom cooked which erased her smile. “Onions?” she deadpanned, looking at the onion rings that decorated their scrambled egg. “These ruins the food’s taste, mom.” Her reaction made her dad chuckle and for her mom to look sternly at her. “Just pick out the onions and give it to me ins-” before her dad could finish his suggestion, her mom spoke. “No. Eat it because it’s good for your health.” Daisy frowned. “Dad said he can eat it ins-” her reasonings were stopped when her eyes met the stern ones belonging to her mother. Knowing that protesting is futile, she just sighed and took the spoon and fork, starting to remove the onion and pile them up. “You can just eat it slowly instead of grouping them up and eat them as a whole.” Er mom suggested as she watched her put the onions on her spoon and readying them for a one whole bite. “You might choke.” As if hearing none, Daisy lifted the spoon and ate it without breathing, making her eat it in just a few seconds. After swallowing, she took her glass of milk and drank some. “Cause they tase bad. Why would I eat them lots of times when I can just it in one try?” “Why are you even asking her, darling?” her father teased. “No matter what happens, her answer’s still the same.” He said, looking at his daughter with a smile. “The wordings might differ but the answer’s still the same.” Playing along, her mother chuckled and looked at her with a teasing stare. “I’m just trying to make her change.” She said, causing for Daisy’s frown to deepen. “I mean, look at her, she changed within some days so she got new friends.” At the mention of new friends, Daisy rolled her eyes. “Why are two ganging up on me?” she asked. “I just want to eat peacefully.” She added, taking another bite from her now onion-free meal. “And I didn’t gain new friends.” “Oh? Isn’t Calvin your new friend?” her mother interrogated. “Acquaintances, mom. That’s what we are.” She answered, her eyes still on her food and her fork continuously tapping on the egg, putting small holes on it. I mean, that’s what he called us yesterday too. Having interest with their discussion, her dad took a sip from his coffee before putting the newspaper down. “Who’s Calvin? Is he her classmate? I don’t know that person.” He said, turning his protective father side on. “Calvin Strauss, darling. That’s his name.” her mother answered. “He seemed to be a nice guy and I guess him and Eric have lots of similarities.” She added based on what she has seen. “Maybe that’s why he became Daisy’s friend.” With her mother’s words, Daisy rolled her eyes and shoved half of the scrambled up on her mouth, finishing it up in a single bite. “I know Eric and Calvin were both ice dudes, mom.” She said after eating. “That’s what makes them oppose each other.” “If they’re really similar in some ways, shouldn’t that be a good reason for them to get along?” her father wondered, causing for her mom to nod in agreement. “Your dad has a point. Are you sure you’re not mistaking their friendship as something else?”  Pretty sure of herself, Daisy shook her head in opposition. “Nah. They always stand on different ends and their answers always differ.” She stated. “I mean, even if I’ll ask them a question answerable by yes or no, most of the times, they still disagree with each other’s answers.” “Looks like this Calvin is also cool, huh?” her dad praised, making her roll her eyes.  “You know what, dad?” she started, looking at him with a blank face. “You’re jokes are always unlaughable. Just like right now.” While in the middle of their morning discussion, their doorbell rang. “I’ll get it.” Daisy volunteered, taking the last half of the egg before walking away. Reaching their camera system that’s connected to their doorbell, the twins’ faces were present after she turned it on. “It’s Aaron and Eros.” Daisy announced, turning to look at her parents. “Yeah, we know.” Her dad replied coolly. “They wanted to surprise you so they came here early and told me to not tell you about it.” Her mom added. With that, Daisy nodded and returned on looking through the camera. Turning the speaker on, she spoke. “If you’re here for food, I’ve ate all the food mom cooked for breakfast.” She said, teasing the two who’s looking at the lens despite not seeing her. “I’ve already eaten, Dee. Besides, this punk even ate three servings.” Eros said, pointing at his twin with a smirk. “We’re full so let us in.” he said before chuckling, ignoring the glare of his brother who wasn’t given a chance to say anything. Watching them made her laugh. “Fine. I’m just kidding, anyways. Mom mixed onion with the scrambled egg so you know.” She said before laughing once again. “I’m coming there, wait a sec.” she said before turning the speaker off. She then walked towards the door and almost ran to get to gate, feeling excited to see Aaron again and bond with Aaron to have some entry on her diary with his name on it. After opening the gate, Aaron’s grin and Eros’ smile greeted her. Luckily, their obvious differences made it easier for her to tell them apart: Aaron having blonde hair and brown eyes, while Eros has brown eyes and his hair was dyed black to not have the similar blonde one with his identical twin. “So there’s still food?” Aaron asked. “He said you already had three servings during your breakfast, A.” she said, causing for him to look at her with a slightly surprised expression. “What? He said it just a while ago.” “Who’s A? Me?” Aaron asked, pointing at himself. “Duh. Who else?” Daisy said in a matter-of-fact tone. “He’s Ross and you’re A.” she said, pointing at Eros first then at Aaron. “Why am I only A when he has more than one letter?” Aaron protested. “Both still have one syllable when pronounced so there’s nothing wrong with it.” Daisy reasoned, waving her hand dismissively. “Yeah, I can see her point so just accept it and move on.” Eros said with a proud smirk. “Don’t be a crybaby. It doesn’t suit your outfit.” He said, pertaining to Aaron’s black V-neck shirt with his sunglasses hanging on it, faded jeans with a chain decorating his belt, and black canvas shoes. “So you accept that my outfit’s better than you?” Aaron asked, a smirk playing on his lips, also pertaining to Eros’ outfit of red hoodie with the sleeves folded up to show his forearms, denim ripped jeans and black rubber shoes. Not in favor of witnessing them bicker in front of their house without anywhere to sit on, Daisy sighed and widened the gate’s opening which made them look at her due to the gate’s sound. “Continue it inside. If you guys wanted to become models, apply for it instead of competing with each other.” She said before turning around to walk, the two immediately followed. While walking, an idea sparked up in Eros’ mind. “Yo Dee, since you said that we can apply for modelling, you think we’re qualified for it?” he asked, a playful smile made way on his lips as his brother looked at him with the same expression. “Since I am Daisy Harrison-Middlemist, I carry Harrison blood too.” She said, stopping their walk to look at her with a smirk. “That means, if I say you two can’t, I’m basically saying that I’m ugly too, so you guys can go and become a model.” Her answer and her smile made their smirks change into a blank expression. “So you’re supporting us because we’re Aaron and Eros Harrison?” Aaron asked, making her nod, her smile still displayed. “Wow. Thanks. It boosted our ego.” Eros monotonously said. With their responses, Daisy chuckled and moved to stand between the two of them, then she put her arms on the both of them, causing for them to move down due to her impact and her height. “Just kidding. You can kill lots of women’s heart just by existing.” She said, bringing their proud smiles back. “You think so?” the two asked at the same time.  “Nah. I know so.” She responded, causing for the three of them to chuckle and walk side by side towards their house. As they entered, her parents’ gaze instantly turned to the three noisy newcomers. “Did something good happened?” her dad asked, looking at them with a playful smile. The twins chuckled and removed themselves from her, both wearing a proud smile. “She called us handsome, uncle.” Aaron reported, confidence boosting on his words. “And she knew we can be great models.” Eros added, his tone equally confident with his twin. Hearing that, her mother gasped, looking at them with a wide smile. “Of course my girl knows what qualities are needed to become a model.” She proudly said. “Harrison were quite well-known in the fashion industry after all.” She said, proud that she herself was a former model and is now a fashion designer that works at her own company, Vermillion, and she is included in the top 3 most wanted designers worldwide.  Daisy laughed and shook her head. “Calm down, mom. Don’t get too worked up with reminiscing your former model self.” She said, teasing her mother. As she laughed, her phone beeped, causing for her to pick her phone up from her pajama’s pocket. 23 new notifications. Seeing the reason why, she rolled her eyes and opened her phone, going straight to her social media account and deleted all the new friend requests she had received today early in the morning. “What’s with that? That’s lots of requests.” Eros asked, looking at her who’s busy removing the requests. “I know our name’s pretty famous but I didn’t know you’re that famous.” Aaron pointed out. “It’s not me who’s famous.” Daisy said, her eyes still glued on the requests she’s deleting. “These girls were aiming for me to get close to those two ice guys.” She frowned, remembering that these notifications were just the continuation of the last waves if requests. “Ice guys? You mean Eric and Calvin?” her father wondered, causing for her to nod as her answer. “But why do they want to befriend you first, honey? That’s pretty odd.” her mother asked next. “Well,” she started, lifting her gaze. “After our essay where I’m partnered up with Eric and Calvin, the whole school acted like I’m someone who’s worthy of being called a ‘queen’,” she quoted. “Because of making those two my ‘friends’.” She quoted again. After listening to her story, the twins looked at her suspiciously, her mother looked at her teasingly, while her father looked confused with the other’s reactions. “What’s with the stares?” Daisy asked, blankly looking at them who’s staring back at her. “Eric’s just back but he’s already making a scene.” Aaron commented, his expression’s blank and unreadable. “And who’s Calvin? Can we meet him? Should we go to your school to check him out?” Eros continuously asked, also wearing the same expression. “Calm down boys.” Her mom said, followed by a chuckle. “Our Daisy’s a grown up now so it’s normal if we hear her tell stories like that here and there you know.” She added, now looking at her daughter. “You sound proud of it.” Her father said, causing for Daisy to sigh and look at the with blank eyes. “What if she’ll have a boyfriend now? Are you gonna be proud of it too?” he questioned next. With that, Daisy shook her head. “Dad, no one’s talking about relationships here.” She said, noticing the change of expression on her cousins. “If she’ll have a boyfriend sooner or later,” Eros started. “Then we’re not the only guys in her life now.” Aaron added, the two of them looked disappointed with their own thoughts. “I’m not ready to let go of our baby sister bro. Maybe someday but not now.” Eros said, but despite the sweet words, his glare and disagreeing face matching his low voice made it sound like a threat. “Let me meet this Calvin first. We don’t know him yet.” “Don’t forget Eric bro. He’s included here too.” Aaron said, his tone as heavy and dark as his twin. “Should we go and check those guys at their school?” he suggested. “Good idea.” Eros said with a nod, followed by his gaze turning to the main topic of their conversation. “Daisy, tell Eric that you won’t hitch a ride from now on.” He sternly said. “Use your car.” “We can go to their school right? Aunt Eve and Uncle Pete?” Aaron asked, looking at the smiling mother and at the blank faced father. “Go and tell me who’s that Calvin is.” Her father replied, earning him two smirks that spells danger. Things escalated quickly. Daisy thought as she wonders how did the requests that she’s deleting became a topic about her being in a relationship. Should I blame myself? Nah.
