Things had started to move quickly. Alina had already called the bar and the restaurant to tell them she was quitting, and her mother had an appointment the next week to see a doctor, courtesy of Zelda’s employee insurance scheme. More importantly her mother had believed the scholarship documentation Zelda had provided to explain her newly acquired wealth; and that meant they could start looking for a decent apartment.
Alina had also explained to Zelda the background to her education problems – that Grigore had withdrawn his referral letter, leaving her without any way to get into a university.
