Chapter 27

1159 Words
Violet I’ve hardly come out of my post o****m high when Apollo is pulling out of me and darting out of the bathroom. I quickly shut off the water and use my werewolf speed to catch up to him, careful not to slip on the tiles. By the time I make it out to the living area of his suite, he’s pulling open the glass sliding door and transforming into his wolf on the balcony. “Apollo wait!” I plead desperately. It’s no use. His wolf hardly even glances back at me before launching himself over the balustrade. I scream in horror and run after him. My naked body hits the glass as I witness him land multiple stories down on all four paws. He darts away into the thick cover of trees and I can’t help the tears that spring to my eyes. This wasn’t supposed to happen like this. I was meant to find my mate, we would fall in love instantly and he would want every piece of me. For Apollo to run away as soon as we’ve mated and marked each other, it tears my heart apart. This was clearly a mistake. I should never have come here. Those rogues should have killed me instead. I need to leave, I can’t be here anymore. After disposing of our shredded clothing and stealing the smallest garments I can find in Apollos wardrobe, I shut the door to his bedroom. I regret it immediately when I hear the lock click into place. My body falls into a heap on the floor, my heart shattered into tiny little pieces. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” A female voice breaks my train of thought. I look up to see a man and a woman staring down at me with frowns on their faces. The man steps in front of her slightly as if to protect her from me. I wipe away my tears. “I’m nobody. I was just leaving.” I move to stand up when she offers me her hand. I look up into her face again and a sad smile forms on her beautiful features. “Clearly you are somebody if you are leaving my Beta’s suite with a fresh mate mark on your shoulder.” She says softly. This is the Luna I’ve heard about from those feral rogues. She’s so beautiful, why would anyone want to harm her? I grip onto her hand and she helps me stand. “Thank you.” I murmur. “Emmet, why don’t you go check up on the pack and I’ll find our guest some new clothes?” She looks down my torso and grimaces at what she sees, an oversized black T-shirt tucked into a pair of elastic waist shorts plus the ratty sneakers I came here with. “Are you sure?” He speaks for the first time. Is he worried I’ll hurt her? “Of course.” She smiles warmly up at him before planting a kiss on his lips and pulling me away into another suite. This one is way fancier than Apollo’s room though. She pushes me onto an oversized ottoman in a jam packed walk in robe filled with clothing, shoes and accessories. It’s like a boutique store in here. She rummages through everything before handing me a mountain of clothing. “I can’t accept this, it’s too much!” I exclaim in horror. “Yes you can. It looks like you need it more than I do. I’m Athena by the way.” “I’m Violet. I suppose I would have been your Beta female but maybe it wasn’t meant to be.” I look away ashamed. “Look, why don’t you get changed into something more comfortable and then we can talk about my i***t Beta?” She leaves me sitting there without another word. I do as she says and slip on a pair of burgundy yoga pants that I find in the pile. I decide to keep Apollo’s shirt on though, I think I’ll need his citrus scent surrounding me for this conversation. After combing my black bob cut back into place, I walk back into the living area to find Athena curled up on a beige modular lounge. She pats the spot next to her and hands me a glass of water. “Sorry, I didn’t know what you would like.” She sheepishly says. “Thank you Athena. You don’t need to do this for me.” I down the glass of water in one gulp, realising just how parched I actually am. Days on the road with little sustenance will do that to you. “Nonsense. Why don’t you start at the beginning of your story and we’ll talk about Apollo later?” “Well, I am originally from Victoria. I’ve been living in a halfway house with no real purpose in life. Taking odd jobs here and there to be able to feed myself. I decided to travel north in search of a better life for myself. With no real destination in mind and being a woman alone on the road, a pack of rogues found me. They threatened to kill me if I didn’t come here with them and attack anyone I came across. I didn’t touch a soul though, in case you were wondering. I was captured and thrown into the dungeon where Apollo found me. He threatened me, interrogated me then we mated and marked each other. It all happened so fast! And then …” “What happened next Violet?” Athena asks softly, taking my hand into hers. Tears spring to my eyes again just thinking about it. “He left. Threw himself off the top floor and ran away.” “Are you kidding me?” She half shouts. “My cousin may be an i***t sometimes but he’s no coward. He’s been waiting a long time for you, I’m sure the severity of the situation just caught him by surprise.” “Yeah … maybe.” I don’t sound very convinced. “Give him a chance to explain himself, that’s all I ask. I promise it’s not what you think.” Her eyes cloud over with a mind link then she stands and moves into the kitchen to arrange more drinks for us. A knock sounds at the door a short time later and she tries to sneak a quick glance at me. I’ve been watching her the entire time so it doesn’t sip past my notice. She moves over to the door and standing there is my mate. My eyes pop out of my head. He barges past her into the room. “What’s so important you needed me right -“ he stops in his tracks as soon as he notices my presence in the room. Will he be glad to see me or will he run away again?
