Chapter 34

651 Words
Emmet Athena’s back collides with my chest and I grip onto her hips to steady her. “Wow.” She mutters in awe. Everyone branches off and begins to explore the space. Naturally I’m drawn to the kitchen area and search through the pantry. I pull out a packet of chips and shove a handful into my mouth. “Seriously? Don’t you check expiry dates? Who knows how long this stuff has been down here?” Apollo scolds me. “Hey if I’m going to die today, let it be by light and tangy chips.” I shove in a second handful and offer him the packet. He rolls his eyes and takes one like a savage. Who only eats one chip? “It’s like someone built a second underground pack house down here.” Eliza calls out from another room then appears in the kitchen a second later. Has she developed super speed? Oliver better be keeping his dirty paws off of her. I think I need to have a little chat with him. “Oooh there’s snacks down here? I’m starving!” She pulls out a second packet of light and tangy chips from the pantry. “Runs in the family.” Apollo mutters sarcastically. “Hey where did you get those? There was only one packet when I got these out.” I question my sister, shaking my packet at her. “Did you not just see me pull these out?” She asks like I’m some sort of i***t. “Get out of my way.” Apollo demands and opens the pantry door himself. He pulls out another packet and I stare in awe. He opens and closes the door at least ten times, each time pulling out another packet and throwing it behind him. “What are you doing?” Athena appears beside me and I offer her some chips. She shakes her head. “Proving a point.” Apollo turns around and stares at us. “The food replenishes itself like magic.” “How can this be?” Athena whispers in awe. “So we’ve been buying supplies this entire time when there’s an unlimited food supply down here?” Oliver appears from a random door in a long corridor. “Should we look for the other exit?” Violet asks, the only sensible person here. “Let’s go.” Athena directs us. “Anyone want a snack for the road?” I’m not letting it all go to waste. They all throw me a dirty look. “It was just a question.” I murmur, shrugging my shoulders and following them at the rear. We follow the long corridor for what feels like an hour. Almost every ten metres there’s another door on both sides and we stop to check what is inside. Bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, everything you could possibly need. Eliza was right, it’s like a whole other pack house down here. It makes me wonder who created it. Likely a witch considering everything about it screams magic. We reach the end and like the entrance we came through, a set of stairs is formed in the rock beneath our feet. We climb the stairs and emerge into the crisp night air. “We need to find out where we are.” Athena says. “Why don’t we head east towards the coast? There shouldn’t be many towns around here, it’s too rural.” Violet suggests. “Good idea. Let’s move together in wolf form, it’s safer.” We all undress again and throw our clothes into the bag. Five of us shift into our wolves and Eliza stands there staring at Harrick, Oliver’s wolf. Zeus nudges her with his snout and crouches down to allow her to climb up. She looks back at Harrick longingly before begrudgingly climbing up. Yeah, I’m definitely going to need to speak to this bastard.
