CHAPTER THREE- I can ruin him

1005 Words
When Adrianna woke up, she was in a hospital with her wrist attached to a drip and a heart monitor across her bed, reading her heart rate. She wondered what had happened? Why was she suddenly at the hospital? She remembered that her husband almost killed her. He'd pounced on her and held her neck. He clearly aimed to kill, but— She had doubts. Who brought her to the hospital then? And how did she survive almost dying in her husband's hands? All she had done was copy the notion he'd set as the head of the house, cheating. A tear rolled down her cheek. Her current situation was her idiotic husband's fault! She sighed and sat on the bed, and her head ached. The door opened, and a nurse walked in, smiling. "Hello, Adrianna. How are you feeling?" Adrianna stood on her feet, and the nurse walked toward her, "Your husband brought you to the hospital. He said you fell. Thankfully, you have no major injuries." "What? Derek brought me to the hospital?" Adrianna gasped, feeling more surprised than ever. "Isn't he the sweetest?" The nurse mused. Adrianna was still in her head when the door opened, revealing her stepmother and sister. They were both holding a bouquet of red roses. To others, they were the sweetest family members anyone would ask for. But she knew otherwise. "Oh my darling, Adrianna!" Her stepmother chirped with a bright smile. She was a brunette woman with pale skin, round eyes, a pointed nose, and plump lips. Her eyes were dark brown, and she was a few inches taller than Adrianna, but she looked frail. Many people saw her as cute, but she was a demon underneath the cuteness. Her daughter was Hayley, and in contrast to her mother, she had sharper-looking features, and her character was mainly cutthroat. "I'll excuse you two for now," The nurse said while bowing her head as she walked past the two women who had just come visiting. Everyone knew the Dhalrahmini family, and the sound of their last name sent chills down people's spines. What more seeing them in person? They had been a Billionaire family for five generations, and their family had managed to be deeply rooted in every nation's sector. Fashion. The judiciary. Medical line. Politics. The police force. You name it; they were everywhere. As soon as the nurse left the room, Adrianna walked toward the gorgeous women with a hand on her back. "Hello, Mother," her gaze was directed to her stepmother. "Not Giselle?" Her stepmother's mouth rose to a smirk. Adrianna always had a problem calling her evil stepmother Mother. Hence, she always got disciplined for it. The effects of the discipline never showed on her skin, but her insides were heavily affected along with her mental health. Even though she was never allowed to look at her medical reports, she knew something wasn't right within her, and she'd heard rumors too. Giselle closed the distance between her and Adrianna before holding her by the chin, keeping the bouquet in her other hand. "Did you get tired of the punishments already?" Adrianna stared at her stepmother intensely without saying a word. "Good girl," Giselle commented with a sly smile as she let go of Adrianna's chin. She walked past Adrianna, and Hayley followed her mother to place the flowers on the table. Adrianna turned around to look at them. "I heard that you cheated on your husband," Giselle said as she looked at Adrianna. "It's none of your business," Adrianna said stonily. Giselle laughed, "You should've just died when he strangled you," Adrianna pursed her lips. The nurse had said she sustained a fall and would get well soon. Her stepmother also buried the actual cause of her accident? "Anyway, you can't divorce Derek. Even though you're as useless as a goose, you have to appear good on the media." "I'll take care of my own business," Adrianna insisted. "You could barely save yourself from almost getting killed, and now, you want to take care of your situation?" Hayley chuckled with a flip of her hair, "What a joke!" "Anyway, stay here in the hospital for two more days to sustain empathy from the mass." Adrianna's eyes widened as she realized what was going on. "There are reporters outside?!" "What do you expect? Your mother was a fashion icon; you are born to be famous." Giselle said with sly laughter. Adrianna didn't want to hear anything about her mother. All it did was trigger her. "That's enough," Adrianna said with a blank expression, but her lips quivered. "If you understand me, you must know why you can't divorce Derek." Of course. Staying with Derek would enable her family to control his family, but she had enough of him. "I am a lawyer," Adrianna said. Although she had been on hiatus for a while due to a personal issue, it was about time she went back to work, and she wanted it to be as soon as possible. "I can ruin him." She said. If her family didn't approve of her divorcing Derek, she had to look for ways for them to approve. Her family always fed off of other people, and if they couldn't, the alternative was to destroy them. This involved Derek; she didn't mind ruining him for what he'd done to her. "You say you can ruin him; what about his family?" Giselle asked. "Derek will leave a stain on their reputation," Adrianna clarified. Giselle gave Adrianna a long look. She had seen with her eyes what Adrianna was capable of. If she wanted to ruin someone, she would. She turned to leave, "You have one month," Adrianna watched Giselle's retreating figure, and as Giselle walked out the door, Hayley took a step towards Adrianna and said in a light tone, "You owe me a favor," Adrianna sighed, and without another word, Hayley turned to leave. Hayley was a prosecutor at Jones Firm. The same firm Adrianna worked at as a lawyer.
