Chapter Seven Sunshine warmed the cockpit of the B-25, and Evelyn grinned at Gladys. This was the first time for her barracks mate to be her copilot, and the cross-country journey promised to be hours of laughter and chitchat. The weather had cooperated fully, giving her crisp visibility and gorgeous blue skies through which to soar. She relaxed her grip on the yoke with a sigh. “There is nothing better than being in the air, don’t you think?” “Yeah, I could be up here forever.” Gladys nodded and adjusted her headset. “Who needs to be tied down to a man when you can ride the thermals?” “Don’t you want to get married someday?” Evelyn raised her eyebrow.
