The Wolf's Mate

Chapter 5

All three of us stared at each other waiting for one another to make the first move. My parents were glaring while I was staring in shock, after a while my eyes started tearing up a little. I missed them so much... my mom was the first one to make a move. She started advancing towards me and I tensed up getting ready for a slap on the head when she wrapped her arms around me instead. I remained tense for a couple of seconds before relaxing into my mom's arms, I missed her hugs. I wrapped my arms around her hugging her back. I put my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes enjoying my mom's embrace. When I opened my eyes I saw my dad behind my mom looking at the both of us, he was smiling at the two of us. I pulled back from mom and went to my dad, he looked down at me. There were tears in his eyes making me tear up as well. I wrapped my arms around him and he wrapped his around me, my head was leaning on his chest and his head on top of mine. 

Eventually, we let go of each other and I ushered my parents into my apartment, I shut the door and turned around to face them. Already, their anger was back and I cringed knowing that I was about to get the lecture of the lifetime. Of course, my mom was the first to say something, " Where in the hell have you been young lady! We haven't seen nor heard from you in years and all of a sudden you show up out of nowhere. You didn't even have the decency to let us know you were in town! You are grounded till the end of f*****g time!" 

I felt my wolf whine inside my head, she didn't like that our mother was upset with us. I didn't say anything to her I tried to avoid her stare as much as possible.  No matter how old you get or how independent you think you are... a mom's stare still makes you want to squirm when you know you've done something wrong. Before I could give some sort of answer that might have been suitable enough for my mom, dad decided to step in. " Why don't we sit down so she can explain everything dear." 

My mom sniffed and nodded her head, " FIne." She looked around the room and saw there weren't any chairs or a couch, this made her huff. She and my dad sat down next to my brothers on the ground. They weren't free from my mother's wrath either. " You two should have informed us the second you scented her on pack territory." The twins had enough sense to hang their heads, when mom was like this it was best just to lay low and wait till she calms down. Do not engage the beast. I sat down in front of everyone and waited to see who would speak first me or my parents. I didn't want to potentially cause my own death by setting off my mom.

My mom decided to start the conversation," Where have you been Elena?" I hesitated before answering her. " Just so everyone knows that I did miss you guys. There wasn't a moment that I haven't gone a day without thinking about you guys these past couple of years. I had almost picked up the phone several times to call you mom. I had wanted to gossip about things that had happened throughout my day or dad when I needed advice on an important decision. " My father looked confused and my mom still looked pissed off.

" Why the hell didn't you? We thought you were dead! It would have been nice to get a phone call from you to let us know that you were alright. Instead, we had a dam funeral because a wolf doesn't last long on its own and we thought you died. You would have saved us from so much pain. " I hung my head in shame. I knew that I should have called them, I was in the wrong entirely here and I knew it. " Mom I was ashamed of running away and I didn't want to hear you say that you were disappointed in me or hear it in your guy's voices... I was scared to call you."

I looked back up at my parent's faces and saw my mom's face soften a little, my dad's face was unreadable. When mom spoke again her voice softened as well, " Why did you leave?" I shook my head and looked away from them. Not only did I disappoint them by leaving without telling them..but they would be disappointed even more when they learn I got myself rejected by my mate. I sigh and felt my wolf encourage me to tell my parents what happened. " I had met my mate the night I left." I heard my mom gasp and I shook my head. " By the end of the night, I had gotten myself rejected... I felt embarrassed...hurt....scared that you guys would be incredibly upset with me. I just wanted to get away from it all and went for a run. The run turned into me not coming home... I just kept running till I was off pack territory."

I continued talking before anyone could say anything. " I won't tell you everything in between, it doesn't really matter... but I ended up in California. I had managed to finish high school, went to college, I had gotten a job and started my career. I met my boyfriend and we are happily together and hopefully, you goes can meet him with time. My captain called me into his office and wanted me to be transferred here, when I got here I went to the Alpha and requested to stay on pack lands for work purposes and then came here. That's when the twins had shown up at my door, they saw me leave the packhouse."

I looked at my parents waiting for what they were going to say next. They looked at each other before looking back at me, my father this time was the one who spoke. " Elena... we understand why you left. A mate rejection isn't a light thing. You were in so much pain you weren't thinking straight and that left a mark on you and your future decisions. We wouldn't have been disappointed in you at all, we would have helped you get through it and prove to your mate that he was wrong to reject you. We would have moved if it would have made you feel better despite what my position in the pack was at the time. You kids come first and always will. " I teared up, it was exactly what I needed to hear. I wished I had gone to them about everything all those years ago. 

My mom spoke after he finished. " We are still very furious with you Elena, but nothing can be done about it now. It's over and done with, what matters is that you are here now. You mentioned your captain? What career did you choose?" I gave her a small smile this was one thing that I felt my parents would have been proud of me for. " I had decided to go into the FBI." My dad's face had brightened, and he seemed proud. For the next hour, they asked me questions about my job and Trent. I was happy that I could finally share the moments of my life that I had been proud and excited about with my family. Unfortunately, the one person who I never wanted to see unless I absolutely needed to again had begun calling the twins, and when they ignored their phones they both started wincing. He was trying to get their attention through the pack's mind link.

I told them that it was fine if they needed to go see what Chase needed. They shook their heads and said they wanted to stay here and spend time with me that Chase would just have to handle it on his own. I shook my head and knew that until Chase got their attention he wasn't going to leave them alone. What I didn't expect was for him to show up at my apartment. There had been a knock at the door and I could smell his scent through the door. My wolf whined wanting her mate and mentally snapped at her reminding her what he had done to us and that he was no longer ours. She put her head on her paws and continued to quietly whine. I sighed, this was going to get annoying really quick.

I got up from the floor and went to answer the door. I swung the door open and Chase was standing on the other side of the door. I glared at him, " Alpha, what brings you to my door?" He narrows his eyes at me," My Beta's have decided to ignore my calls as well as the mind link so I have come to fetch them myself since they do not think that they can come to the packhouse themselves." I gestured for him to come inside. He walked in and my family quickly got up from the floor. My father and mother nodded their heads to Chase as a sign of respect and Chase returned a nod. His gaze went from my parents to my brothers and it hardened. " You two have been disobeying my summons, why?"

The twins cringed, and David answered." Alpha, our sister has returned home. We have thought she was dead for the last few years. We wanted to spend time with her." He nodded his head, " Yes she did indeed come home and I gave you two time to talk with her. It should have been enough when I contacted you to return to the packhouse. Next time I will not allow such disobedience from you two again and you will be punished as is law, do you understand?" They looked at Chase in shock, they nodded their heads in understanding. Chase nodded his head, " You have 10 minutes to say your goodbyes and then you will come to the packhouse immediately." He then turned around and left. My family was quiet the following moments after he left the apartment. 

Sean spoke first, " What the hell? He's never been like that before? What the hell is his problem?" I shook my head, I kind of felt bad because it was my fault he was acting like this. " Me, I'm his problem. He doesn't want me here." Everyone's head snapped in my direction, my dad spoke next, " Elena what does that mean?" I hesitated, David spoke. " Just tell them, Elena." I glared at him and then turned to my parents." He was my mate."
