Chapter 4

1646 Words
As soon as I had walked out of Chases's office I stiffly walked back from the packhouse and to my car. Once safely in my car I let out a breath of relief, I wasn't sure what I was going to do if he hadn't allowed me to stay on pack territory. I would have had an interesting conversation with my boss most likely resulting in me being fired and on the streets with no job or place to stay. It wouldn't be the first time but it would still be unpleasant. The drive to my apartment was long, I knew where the apartment building was but it had been years since I was in town so it took me a little longer than I had wanted to admit to finding it. Once I had parked I went to the office got the keys and signed some paperwork and I was officially living in Alamosa, Colorado as o today. How unfortunate. I grabbed two boxes from my car, ones that looked like a human woman could carry, gotta keep up appearances. My apartment was on the 2nd floor, this building had four floors altogether. I would have liked to be on the ground floor but the 2nd would just have to do, it was better than being on the top floor. When I was in front of my door I unlocked it and walked in talking in my two-bedroom apartment. I had a master bedroom with a bathroom connected while I had a small bathroom and bedroom that I will use as an office. The living room and kitchen weren't very big but it was only me so it didn't need to be. I let out a sigh and moved to the middle of the room and put down my boxes and took a quick glance around. It was time to fully move in as much as I could until the moving truck could get here, so the next couple of hours I had brought in the boxes that I had managed to fit into my car along with my suitcases and then started to sort things and unpack. It was difficult to do without furniture, so it was really just the kitchen that was getting unpacked since I could put everything away in the cabinets. Just as I had finished someone had knocked on my door, I paused what I was doing and tried to scent who was at my door. My eyes widened in surprise, it was the twins at my door. I walked over and opened the door, revealing two tall men grinning down at me. They were still exact replicas of my father other than a few differences here and there. No one said anything for a couple of minutes we were all just staring at each other, Sean decided to break the silence by speaking to David. "How long do you think this awkward silence will last?" David grinned and tilted his head like he was really thinking about a logical answer. " Hmm, when she finally tells us why she left us and ran away." I groaned not really in the mood to deal with the twin's games, " What are you two doing here?" Sean and David laughed at me and they were leaning on each other to keep themselves from falling over and standing upright. I put my hands on my hips and glared at them, Sean had finally started to sober up after a couple of seconds and decided to answer my question. "What do you mean 'what are you doing here?' Our sister who we thought was dead for the past 8 years just came back from the grave! Did you seriously think that we weren't going to show up after finding out that you were in town? Let alone moving back here?" said Sean. They really thought I was dead? I would have thought that I was just another runaway, not that I was dead. But in our world, I could see how they would come to that conclusion. When a wolf goes rogue and leaves its pack on its own, it becomes insanely dangerous for them. They could trespass on another pack's territory and be killed by pack wolves, be killed by other rogue wolves, or even just go insane from not being around the pack. I wanted to find out why they thought I was dead and more about what happened after I left. Like why was Chase Alpha instead of Dan and where did Alpha Dan go? I gestured to the twins to come into the apartment, " Why don't you two come in so we don't continue this conversation where humans and others can hear us?" The twins look at each other and nodded in agreement before walking in, I closed the door and took a look at them again. They were looking around the apartment and cringed realizing that it looked horrible with a box in the corner with my suitcases that held my clothes and shoes and no furniture to be found. " Sorry I just moved in today and the moving truck won't be here for another day or two. So the floor will have to do when it comes to sitting down." Sean rolled his eyes at me and David grinned and sat in the middle of the living room and waited for Sean and me to join him. I chuckled at him and sat down next to him, Sean sighed at the both of us on the floor and sat down with us. I looked at Sean and asked, " Why did you think I was dead?" He just looked at me with a raised eyebrow, " Why wouldn't we? I mean you disappeared without a word and didn't leave a note. When we tried to follow your scent we couldn't because it started raining later that night and washed away your scent trail. We searched for a year and you never contacted us. We assumed that either you didn't want to be found or you were dead. Rogue wolves don't usually last long without a pack." I nodded, he was right most didn't. But I was able to, I wasn't going to tell them why. It was a story I wanted to keep to myself. I shrugged, " So what happened after I left? Anything interesting? Did you guys get into different sports? Did ya'll meet anyone or even your mates?" David glared at me and pointed, "Don't you try to change the subject. Where have you been all these years?" I sighed before I started talking. " I had ran and had wandered around for a year before finally ending up in California. I had decided that I wanted to start a career and did some schooling to catch up on what I was missing from high school and continued on to college. When I was 21 I had graduated and soon had started my career with the FBI. A couple of days ago my captain had called me to his office and had let me know that I was being relocated and it happened to be here. I didn't really have a choice otherwise it would have resulted in me getting fired. So I packed up and made the drive out here as soon as possible. I had gone to see the Alpha only to find Chase in his place and sought for his permission to be here on pack lands." The twins looked at me and didn't say anything and I just sat there trying to not look at them, my eyes wandering around the room looking at everything but them. David tilted his head, " Why did you leave that night?" Sean nodded his head and spoke, " You were crying and you ran from the bonfire. You had been perfectly fine when you had introduced us to Chase. We had asked him but he refused to say anything saying that it was between you and him." I looked down into my lap. I wasn't sure I wanted to tell them. Especially if Chase was their Alpha, I didn't want to put any tension between them and him. I shook my head, " I don't want to talk about it." Sean opened his mouth but before he could speak there was a knock at the door. I looked at the door and then back to them. " Who else did you tell that I was here?" They both shook their heads. This time they answered together, " No one" I shivered, I hated it when they did that it was creepy. I tried to think of who it could possibly be but came up with a total blank. No one was even supposed to know she was here yet. " How did you guys find me?" David shrugged, " Your scent. We followed it. We saw your car and you get in then we followed you here." I felt like I should slap my forehead. Of course, they could smell my scent, I was walking all over the packhouse and driveway when I went to see Chase. I felt my face go pale." You don't think it's mom and dad do you?" Both the twins paled as well, " Oh god, your dead. For real this time." The person at the door knocked again, this time a little more impatient. and all three of us looked at the door. I guess one of us has to answer the door. I gulped and got up. I hesitated before opening the door knowing it was going to most likely result in my premature death. I opened the door and it revealed my mother and father who were standing in front of my door with expressions of fury and angry.... yep I was dead.
