The Rare

New People

“Hey I am Elijah, and I am one of the remaining rare” I wish I could say that, but she doesn't know about the rares yet, and she doesn't know she is one either. Although she asked my name I can’t believe she asked my name. She is so cute when she's embarrassed, I hope she didn’t know I was embarrassed.

“Yo, Elijah get over here, Timmie needs your help with moving that tree” Sam said from across the field, she is my sister.

“Yea, yea I’m coming” I rushed down the hall and went out side. The air was fresh, the barrier was up and protecting us from the explosions, and anyone else other then the rare. No one other then other people without powers could pass through the wall of the barrier, and they either need permission from the rare that created the wall, or had come with a rare that had been in here before. The barrier is miles long, and reaches past where planes can fly. The founders of our safe haven created it, there was six others who created this place other than Sam, and myself. Two have died, and one went missing last year on a missions trip to find more rares. The other three are Hazel, Aiden, and Mateo are all still alive, and around around My, and Sam’s age, Sam and I are twins, and if I recall we are twenty three.

“Holy crazy Elijah are you coming” Sam was getting impatient mind you her parents were thin.

“Yes, yes sorry I was just thinking about our home” I rushed over, and lifted the three out of the way, I broke it into pieces and put it in a pile for burning.

“I think Timmie needs more practice, but with lighter things. At his age we never started off with things that big let alone trees” Sam said

“Sam… when we were his age we didn’t know we had these powers, we still had mom and dad, and our little sister chris. When we were his age the government didn’t know about rares, and rares didn’t know the power they had” I made Sam angry from talking about our family.

“Shut-up you jerk. Just go back to that rare you found, and make sure she is okay” And with saying that Sam pushed me with her mind. Our powers were almost all different. But, we all had one similarity, we, the eight were the strongest rares there has ever been. With the combination of all of our powers we were able to build the wall that we did, and it is indestructible. The only worry we have is our of the eight that is missing, if the people ever got a hold of him then we could all be dead, although if someone tries to tell where it is, or show anyone that is not a rare they forget where it is until they are safe again, it is one of the spells casted on anyone who enters the barriers.

“Wait! Sam I need to talk to you about something important.” she shot me a glare as I shouted.

“What is it, Elijah” Sam grunted as she spoke.

“We need to talk in private” Sam sighed as I said that. We walked away from all of the kids.

“What is it you think Em?” Tim said.

“I don’t know Tim, I might be about the new girl” Em said to Tim.

“It is none of your guys business” Mason said as he shot a glare at both Tim and Em.

“How about you kids get back to work” Mason said.

“But were the same age Mason” Tim, and Em said.

“Whatever I don’t care you guys don’t act our age, no go do something productive, and stop bothering everyone” Mason said as he walked away.

“Gee Mason is a jerk, thinks he's all that eh Tim”

“Yea Em, but he is right we should stop bothering Sam and Elijah”

“Maybe” Em said with a wink”

“Ok Elijah, what is it, and why is it so important that you had to pull me away from the kids, you know they get into trouble when I’m not around” Sam said to me.

“Yea I know but your gonna wanna know this” I said as I lowered my voice to make sure no one else would hear.

“I don’t think Rae is a Rare, she has not shown any sign of her having an ability, or anything, and she never talked about any powers, she has been surviving out there for a year and a half on her own. She also has no memory of powers, she has no clue they exist” I said to Sam and as I spoke her face became concerned.

“So your telling me she doesn't have any powers, yet you brought her in here, without powers how did she get in here?” Sam said.

“I don’t know Sam, but I am going to talk to her now and see if she shows any signs of abilities, I’ll see you in a bit Sam”

“Be careful Elijah she could be part of their group, you don’t know her very well”

“Yes Sam I know” Sam shot me a glare as I walked away. I walked into the house we built with our abilities, it was a white house it looked kind of like a box. The house had eight rooms, most had four bunk beds in each except for the one Rae is in. The room Rae is in is for people who have never been here before, once they are comfortable they move into a room with other people. We have a food hall that we cook our food in, and then there are ten tables long tables that we all eat our food at together. We are slowly building our village together.

I looked out the window again Elijah was nowhere to be seen, I wonder where he went, he was just talking to that girl. I wonder if they are dating, no I could care less. I should finish my food, and get dressed.

“Rae, can I come in it’s Elijah”

“Oh, yea I’m just finishing my food” I said to him.
